TiVoizer 0.2b (Mac OS X)

Works Well to Send Home Movies from Mac to Tivo

We store our movies on our Mac, but would like to be able to access them from any of our networked Tivos. Tivoizer works well. I'd love a que feature to let in run through a bunch of movies overnight, but am thankful that it works as advertised. [alert admin]

PDFLab 2.0.3r2 (Mac OS X)

Leopard compatibility???

I'm having problems getting it to work under Leopard 10.5. PDFLab loads, but can't add files without hanging up. Anyone else having a problem on Leopard? Other than this, it has been a GREAT program. Try it and please make a donation if you find it as useful as so many of us have. [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.0 (Mac OS X)

Improvement over v7 for intel Mac users

For Intel macs, the new version 8 Adobe reader loads faster and reduces the lag that used to occur when we used the PowerPC version (7). Also, it's great to have the toolbar back when viewing PDF's in Safari. [alert admin]

EyeTV 2.3.2 (Mac OS X)

Sound problems on this version

I use this on a MacMini Core Duo that is connnected to my entertainment center. The recent update causes problems with auido playback by other programs (iTunes, Movies via front row, DVD player app, etc). For example, I like to listen to iTunes tracks in the evening while cooking dinner. If EYETV opens to record a prime time show, iTunes will suddenly stop working -song stops playing and can't restart wihtout several adjustments to Midi Audio in Utility folder, etc. EYEtv needs to play nicely with Apple's bundled apps. I sent feedback directly to el gato asking that they address the problem. Once they get this probelm fixed, I'd give it 4.5 stars. If they allow for Season Pass recording... it'll get 5 stars. Good product overall, but this is a serious problem. [alert admin]

EyeTV 2.3.1 (Mac OS X)

Eye TV is great for Recroding HDTV with Miglia hardware

I use EyeTV with a Miglia TVmini HD to record over-the-air (free) HDTV boradcasts in Chicago. It works very well. While it's not quite as intuitive or powerful as Tivo, it does record HDTV, which Tivo still won't do. This version's update to the EyeTV graphical interface is a great improvement. Previusly, the EyeTV version of Front Row was dominant so that it was very difficult to use the Apple Remote to switch from watching EyeTV to listening to iTunes. Now, we press and hold the Apple Remote's Menu button for the EyeTV versin of Front row, but just push the Menu button once for the Apple Front Row interface. Hopefull, EyeTV will continue to make these types of improvements. The program guide works well with a free TitanTV account. Improvements are needed in two areas of recordings. First, the information about upcoming tv shows is limited to one week in the future. This should be extdended to about three weeks. Second, EyeTV should allow for "smart" recording of favorite TV shows like TV does, so that it could be programmed to automatically record (non-reruns) of e.g. Lost regardless of the day or time or length of the show. That way, it will get the season finales and special episode airings, automatically. [alert admin]

PDFLab 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Great Program

This is a program that definitely merits a PayPal donation. I sent some $$ and a hearty thank you. I have only one problem with PDFlab. Ever since I switched Intel based macs, I get an error message at the end of each processing run. PDFlab says that it failed to create the PDF, but opens a folder with a file called PDF Output. PDF output is always a completed file that I wanted to create. I've tried deleting and reinstalling PDF LAb to correct this with sporadic success. If anyone has a fix for this problem, please post it. [alert admin]

Phlink 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Update: Good Support Response - Now Works Great on Intel Mac

This is an update to my prior post. Ovolab respoded to my requests for support and provided some suggestions to fix the Intel Mac functionality problems. Ovolab suggested: 1. Resetting registration code b/c I had used Apple's Migration assistant to bring the older version over from a G5. This was done via terminal through this command "rm ~/Library/Preferences/.PersonalizationSettings.plist" then hitting return, relaunching Plink and re-entering my registration code. 2. Also, they suggest deleting Phlink's preferences. To do this, first quit Phlink, then, in the Finder, trash the file named "com.ovolab.intouch.plist" which is stored inside the ~/Library/Preferences folder. Now, relaunch Phlink and go through the various preferences, making sure that they are correctly set.... Country, number of rings, etc.. etc... 3. They offered to listen to a recording of the outgoing message quailty issues I was having. However, although the website forum for Phlink says that it's ok to use a powered USB hub, upon re-reading the manual, you will see that there is a strong preference for plugging the Phlink USB hardware DIRECTLY into your mac's USB ports. When I made this change, the outgoing message quality issues disappeared and full functionality continuned. Once again, great voicemail system application. Very powerful and easy to use (even if it could take a little IT support for a switch from PowerPC to Intel machines in my case). [alert admin]

Phlink 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Great when it worked, but not working with Intel Mac

I bought this program and loved it on my G5. When I switched to an Intel machine, Phlink no longer worked. I've tried the new, Universal Binary version, but that doesn't work either. Answers the first call, but wont' playback the message and keeps the line off the hood until Phlink is Quit. Hope they can work it out, it was a very nice program, but now performs much worse than a $20.00 answering machine. I submitted two requests for support from Phlink but have not heard back from them. I will update when they respond... [alert admin]

Macromedia Flash Player 8.0.24 (Mac OS X)

COME ON MACROMEDIA!!!! How about an INTEL warning!

Is Macromedia somehow unaware that Macs have Intels? I'm not complaining about the lack of a universal binary. We are in a transition period, but how can they post this update without saying whether or not it works on Intel macs or will totally ruin Macromedia functionality on Intel Macs? I saw the update via Version Tracker Pro, but had heard about past problems. I went to Macromedia's site to look for information about Intel compatibility. NOTHING. Instead, I had to wait until others on this forum posted warnings. Very poor customer treatment, Macromedia. [alert admin]

Timbuktu Pro 8.5 (Mac OS X)

Great Product BUT does not work on INTEL macs

I've been using TB2 v.7 and (now) v8.x for a couple years. It's a great way to securely troubleshoot or help the non-computer inclined remotely. Seriously needs to have a version that will work on the Intel based Macs, though. During this Appke transition, we can expect a few extra requests for computer support and TB2 is necessary. Update won't install…

Thanks! This solution worked for me. Go to Adobe Acrobat's mac update page, download the 8.10 update, install it (wait a long time), then try 8.11

Downloading still pointing to old version

Same problem here. Paid for 8.7, intro page clearly indicated taht I'd be paying for the 8.7 upgrade, then it provided an 8.6 link. I confirmed that the 8.6 download really is just the same old 8.6 version I already had by reinstalling.

Leopard compatibility???

I'm having the same problem. It runs if you launch it then enter an admin username and password. So, if you remote computer restarts...you'll not have access via Timbuktu.

After all a total mess

I have been getting the white noise on about 1 in 10 calls lately, as well. I hope that today's update (v3.3) includes that as one of the bug fixes. It has been a decent program for our home for the last couple years, but they developers do need to focus on the product. First, they need to get back to rock solid stability. Second, they need to add full faxing…

Permissions repair helped

From the Finder, open the Applications folder, then open the Utilities folder and open the program called Disc Utility. Highlight your hard drive's name on the left side, then clickthe Repair Permissions button on the screen.
