Gas 1.0 (Mac OS X)

excellent

works far better than the k-fab counterpart, and looks much better too! I've checked the accuracy and it's excellent. [alert admin]

SizzlingKeys 1.5.8 (Mac OS X)

superb

I was using this a long time ago, but went over to itunesbar in konfabulator. Now that I'm not running Konfab anymore, I thought I'd install this again. However, I had upgraded operating systems in the meantime. It still works!! And the floater window works better than any of the k-fab versions.. this app is excellent. I'm going to see if I have 5 bucks on my paypal and send it to them today :) [alert admin]

StickyBrain 3.4.1 (Mac OS X)

awesome!

wow.. I had tried to dl this update since yesterday, with no luck. Did I get frustrated? No, that would be stupid. I knew from the start there would be a ton of people trying to dl this all at the same time. I just downloaded it at 471 kps! Chronos, their support, their dedication, and their coders all rock!! I had written before that I would probably stay with ver. 2, but when I moved up from my old G3 imac to a newer G4, I tried ver. 3 again. I'm very glad I did, because it just flat out rocks. The linking in voodoopad just doesn't work to the level it should, and I had nothing but frustration with any of the Devon apps. The flash menu, the services integration, the system context menus, the hotkeys.. nothing else compares to SB. [alert admin]

StickyBrain 3.0 (Mac OS X)

probably sticking with v2

I think in the long run, after the oddities are sorted, I will probably stay with v2. All the improvements sound excellent, except for one. I don't want my notes to look like every other app window, or like Safari. I like my little simple notes floating around. I'm used to the keyboard shortcuts, I don't even use the little tool pallettes. I like how a double click collapses them in to a nice little uniform aqua looking bar, with just a title and a close box. I like how I can use different background pictures to help organise my notes. I like how increasing the font size in the first line of the note makes it bigger when collapsed, and I use that as a visual aid. What I really like is the simple-on-the-surface but hefty inside feel. I mean.. that's why I like macs. I'm a writer and use SB notes for all my writing ideas, and for working things out. I don't want anything that will distract me.. so I loved the no-buttons, no-sliders, no-anything look and feel of the v2 notes. Then I could put an inspirational pic as a background, and viola - perfect creative writing environment. All the other improvements sound sooo nice. I bet I would be expecting too much though, to ask for an option that would let me use the v2 interface style, much as they've decided to give options for the look of the flashlight menu. Unfortunately, all this is based on reading others' comments and looking at shots of v3 in action. I never got it to work. The second time I started it up (I restarted after temporarily uninstalling little snitch) the flashlight menu never appeared. It did show up in Activity Monitor though, using 30+% of my cpu. The openbase was in there too, using 40%. I sent an email about how I couldn't get it to import my old v2 datafile - it said 'converting Category Calendars' for well over 30 minutes before I finally stopped it. Odd, since the only calendars in there were the default example ones. I didn't expect an answer today - I've worked software support and I have heartfelt sympathy for the mounds of email I'm sure they're getting. [alert admin]

Panther Cache Cleaner 2.4.3 (Mac OS X)

kernel panic

I've had my kehei G3 iMac for almost 5 years. In that time I had a grand total of one kernel panic. ONE. And that was while running Puma. I'm now running Panther on it, and it runs beautifully. Until I installed PCC. The week I installed PCC, it was the only new software I put on my machine. The week I installed PCC, I had 4 kernel panics. FOUR. I hadn't even instructed PCC to do anything yet. All I had done was start it up ONCE to check it out. I knew that the majority of the tools in PCC were not for maintenence routine use, but for troubleshooting. I didn't run any of them... just checked out the software... looked around a bit to see what it offered. It installed PCCEngine and added it to my startup items without asking, and I assume this is the source of the problem. I know troubleshooting. I have worked as tech support. I know what steps to take to pin the blame on something. PCCEngine causes kernel panics when running Panther on a G3. If it doesn't support G3s, it should explicitly state this right up front, but I suspect they didn't even realise this. [alert admin]

SizzlingKeys 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)

a must have

sizzlingkeys is AWESOME! I recommend it to everybody I know who has a mac. Not only does it do something iTunes needed badly, it never causes trouble, and (amazingly) it's free! Yellow Mug rules!! [alert admin]

Kaleidostrobe 1.0 (Mac OS X)

superb!

astoundingly excellent. i have a g3 400 imac, and this is buttery smooth. do you always want multi-colour visualisations? no, that's why you can have more than one. when you do want multi-colour, with a stunning effect, this is your choice. very professional, while at the same time a bit 'retro.' give this one a try! Baby Banger 1.1 (Mac OS X)

i'll rate it…

after i try it, but i just had to write something about the name controversy. it illustrates to me that the news media is drowning us with way too much sick twisted horror from other people's misfortune. nothing untoward occurred to me when i read the name. it makes perfect sense - a program for babies and little kids to bang on the keyboard, like we all know they love to. it's sad when horrific images pop into peoples' minds when they read something otherwise completely innocent. Skype is better

I have both, and I must disagree. I use gizmo while playing online games, and since it only does the one thing - voice - it uses far less resources and causes noticeably less lag in my games.

3.0.1 Now Available

wow.. this means you guys worked Saturday and Sunday on this. Probably Friday night too. As I've said in the main thread, I've worked at a software company before, and I know what that's like. I think everyone who complained about timeliness and was.. well, impatient frankly.. owes a big debt of gratitude, and an apology, to your families. I will definitely be trying 301.. going to dl it right now.

Increased download capacity

I'm still not having much luck downloading it, but I really appreciate the effort Chronos has gone to to alleviate this. I frankly can't believe some of the previous comments. I didn't have version 3 yesterday, and I managed to survive til today. If I'm not able to get 3.0 til Friday, I don't think I'll begin hemmoraging anywhere. Honestly. These guys deserve the benefit of the doubt. I've been using SB2 ever…
