Quick News for Palm OS 1.22 (Palm OS)

v1.2 of the Mac OS X conduit seriously broken?

I've been using Quick News since it used to be called Hand/RSS, and I really enjoy it. Unfortunately, the latest version of the Mac OS X conduit seems to be badly broken. Whenver I run it the sync takes FOREVER and I eventually get an error in the Mac OS Conduit Manager that says "Unknown Sync Error [16385]". I am syncing with a feed list that worked fine under the previous version I was using. Anyone have any ideas? [alert admin]

SlothCam 2.6 (Mac OS X)

Great app!

This is perhaps the perfect widget for those of us who work in an office without a window. I keep mine right next to Apple's Weather widget to get a picture of what I can expect on the commute home from work. One gripe about the 2.6 release. The flashing red in the title area is *very* distracting for webcams that refresh faster than, say, 30 seconds or so. It's also unnecessary for many cams which include a time stamp in the image itself. In general, this kind of thing should be an option that can be switched off. I realize that I can turn off the caption entirely, but then I don't have the captions, which I like! Until this feature becomes an option I'm sticking with release 2.5, bugs and all. [alert admin]

Mapopolis 5.27 (Palm OS)

Disappointing, not worth the money

I was interested in trying this out given how much it has been advertised. After fumbling around here on versiontracker, I just got the latest software and a couple of sample maps from the company web site. I can see how this would make a very nice freeware tool, but I just can't see paying money for the software. Perhaps their demo maps aren't very good, but shouldn't they be demonstrating some of their best stuff? I found the presentation of the maps on screen to be pretty awful. I thought it was pretty odd that map software would not have detailed screen shots available online. Now I know why. I'm using a small color screen, granted, but the default color choices are horrible and use of the available screen real estate is poor. Lettering for the street labels follows the streets (good) but the text is not rotated, so you end up with funny-looking "stair steps" (bad) which are everywhere in a place like Boston since none of the streets fall on east-west or north-south lines. This may be a limitation of the available processing power on typical Palm devices, but a good designer could have come up with a better way to label things so my screen doesn't look like an Escher puzzle! Bottom line: don't waste your time with this. Plan ahead a little and print out free maps from Yahoo! or Mapquest, which are much better.(*) If you have wireless web access and a good Palm browser you don't even need to plan ahead so much -- just use the mobile versions of their web sites. (*) I am in no way affiliated with Yahoo! or Mapquest; just one of the many who uses their products. [alert admin]

Great app!

Sorry... didn't see your reply sooner. I've now upgraded to v2.8 and it's great! Thanks for adding flexibility to the way the captions display.

When will the link be fixed?

The link works fine for me. What is not clear is that this program, by itself, does not get you anywhere. That's why it is free.

As you might expect, the true value is in the map data, and that is where you get charged. I downloaded this app and got little more than the QuickUser's Guide. On the main guide page it states:

Purchasing Maps
