JackenIAX 1.0beta v218:221M (Mac OS X)
Hit and miss depending on your hardware
This product mostly works, but on some machines, no matter what I do it cannot dial out. The developer says to reset the audio preferences (change them and change them back again) and promised an update over a year ago, but this has not been fixed to date. 2 machines I have it works fine, 3 other machines it cannot dial (crashes). That said it works better for me than loudhush ever did (and this is free where loudhush is not). [alert admin]

Vine Viewer 1.2 (Mac OS X)
It seems nice but 7 day trial is lame
It seems like a great client, but a 7 day only trial mode is a bit extreme considering it's built on a freely available nework protocol. $30 is too steep for this application when there are alternatives that are free (as in beer and freedom). Also wondering if these developers have written a VNC implimentation from scratch. There is no mention in the download of _any_ licensing information for the vnc functionality which makes me go hmmm... [alert admin]

Rumpus 4.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Your clients will be very thankful ![]()

We purchased Rumpus to make file transfers between our staff and clients a much simpler process. The web interface alone is well worth the price of purchase! On top of that it's ftp implimentation is fantastic, the administration is simple enough for those new to the ftp servers to set it up without hassle, yet is robust enough for the seasoned ftp server admin happy. Technical support is _top notch_ and in the true tradition of Mac OS it "just works", and does so right out of the box. This is hands down the best ftp server for OSX if you want to get the job done, and is especially a time saver as you don't have to support people who don't understand ftp! point them to the web interface and the job is done. Money very well spent. [alert admin]

Palm Desktop 4.2.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
some of the worst OSX software EVER
These guys really need to get up to date on this stuff. They constantly alter their installer and applications WITHOUT giving it a version bump. I have at least 5 different copies of the 'installer' (if you can call it that) for 4.2.1. Not a single one works properly! The latest one 'fixes' the permissions of the enclosing folder it sits in (giving it super user permissions!!) just so it can run. about 85% of the time it quits unexpectedly when trying to run the post install script. PalmOne: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ditch this ancient installer vise crap and make an OSX pkg so that us poor sods that have to support your hardware and software can actually fix the problems (it's fairly obvious palm has little interest in this given the most recet 'fix' for the installer). I have multiple users here running fresh installs of OSX that cannot use your hardware due to this so-called installer. Once I did get the installer working, sadly the hotsync manager quits unexpectedly with nary a log entry. The tech support department was a joke, after paying for a support call, their answer was to re-install my OS software and try again. Once I explained that it was a brand new machine with a completley fresh install they had no answers except to 'maybe try older installers' -- which they, btw, can't provide to you. I still had to pay for that tech call even though the tech person admittedly couldn't help me and knew nothing about OSX at all. In this day and age I'm simply aghast that a HUGE company like palm can't get this one right. We won't be purchasing any more of your hardware and I will highly reccomend everyone I know against it. OpenOSX Office 1.5 (Mac OS X)
paying for GPL software is a crime
All i have to say is this, get them yourself and save yourself the $30 and the PITA of deailing with an outside source to get things in one place. I tried contacting this company 3 times with questions about their 'product' and have not received an answer either via email or by leaving phone messages for them.
The originating projects are all free (as in freedom, not just beer!) versions of the software for download from the original vendors or OSX port managers. Save yourself teh hassle and download them yourself. You will get the latest versions, and you won't be giving your money away to people trying to make money from what other's give away for FREE. CuteFTP Mac 2.0 (Mac OS X)
it's spamware .... I entered a 'special' email address to download, and 'lo and behold .. I've gotten over 50 pieces of spam in that box in < 1 week ... and the inbox has now gone away. It's very doubtful that someone has randomly guessed the email address (24 random chars at a domain I rarely use). If you have a throwaway email acct I reccomend to use that for sure. It is very windows centric, and doesn't have most of the features of transmit/cyberduck/fetch, etc. Not worth the spam to download. [alert admin]

PHP iCalendar 1.0 (Mac OS X)
As I've seen with many many projects lately on versiontracker, it's not to on top of things anymore ... the 1.1 version of this app has been out for a while and works wonderfully! it's not so much a versiontracker than a 'previous_versiontracker' as literally half the apps I'm looking for are out of date in this directory! Won't Load on Leopard Intel core2 Duo 2.0
I had the exact same experience on 3 different Leopard machines, it seems like this project may have been abandoned, I couldn't find a way to file a bug or even contact the developers.

Hit and miss depending on your hardware
Sorry for the double posts, versiontracker gave my a MySQL error (stating that a table was marked crashed and should be repaired) and stopped dead there. On reload this comment posted twice.

Superb software and ASTOUNDINGLY overpriced
The price is incredibly reasonable considering the POWER it gives you with the web interface. If this is just for a home ftp server and you don't need to offer people that sort of powerful interface (that doesn't require dedicated ftp software and/or a learning curve for non ftp saavy users) then I would reccomend just using OSX's built in ftp!

some of the worst OSX software EVER
BTW, on third brand new machine right now, it works on exactly ZERO of them. I have execs that are ready to throw their palms out the window. I think I will encourage them to do this and snail mail a box with all the parts to the palm support department attn: Mac OSX Developers.

working fine for me here. You might have to just update the preference (i.e. unselect and reselect it to launch at startup)
