Cute MP3 Converter 2.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Can someone please explain to me what is so difficult to understand about this? Freeware: FREE software. Fully functional, possibly less so than a full paid version, but nonetheless free. As in no charge, nothing to buy, not now, not in fifteen days, not ever. A fifteen day demo (eventually costing $29.95) is NOT FREEWARE!! [alert admin]

A 21-day trial, after which you are expected to pay ANY amount (in this case, $19.98) is NOT freeware! Free means you pay NOTHING. Not now, not ever. [alert admin]

The computer's play strategy is not especially good. In half a dozen games, I won every time by as much as 59-5, never by less than 49-15. One glaring error is that the computer will routinely make a move which allows me to take a corner, despite the fact that there are other less damaging moves available. I haven't tried it over a network yet, but for the moment, play against the computer is simply no challenge. Several cosmetic and functional errors. [alert admin]

New Release Version, Same Problem as Beta
WW asks if you want to set up on initial run. Make sure you know exactly what you want from the numerous options available, because once you do it, there is no way of changing anything later unless you uninstall and start all over. Of the buttons available, none lead to Options or Tools. If you say "No" to the initial setup, nothing will happen. Not recommended until they fix this. [alert admin]

Babya Logic 1.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Installation went fine, but upon launch, I got an error to the effect of a registry entry being invalid, and that a critical file was not available. [alert admin]

Having set options on initial launch, how does one change them later? For that matter, if you choose not to set them on initial launch, how do you set them at all? Help talks about the options, but no mention of how to change. Access to Help from within the app instead of having to locate it in Program Files would be convenient. The only method I have found is to uninstall and reinstall. A little inconvenient, considering the number of possible option combinations to try out. [alert admin]

A Trial Version is NOT FREEWARE!
Yet another developer who doesn't know the difference between paying for something and getting it free. $39.95 for the personal version or $69.95 for the Professional does not equal free in my book. "Freeware" is without cost. Not now, not at the end of a trial period, not ever. This isn't even a free "lite" version: it is a trial download. [alert admin]

1st Choice FTPPro 8.70 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
What is your definition of "freeware"?
Could someone please explain to me why it is that developers just don't seem to comprehend what the word "freeware" means? Webster.com says it is "software that is available for use at no cost or for a nominal usually voluntary fee." The Jargon File simply calls it "free software." Free, as in no charge. Not now, not after an evaluation period, not after a certain number of uses, not ever. This outfit can't even decide on how they want to do that: part of the EULA says 14 days, elsewhere it says three uses. Software (coincidentally, this software) which turns out to cost $95 if you want to use it more than three times IS NOT FREEWARE! $95 is hardly nominal, and, according to the EULA, certainly isn't voluntary. Personally, I think it's time that VersionTracker take issue with developers who post false descriptions of their software. Put up a warning banner for every piece of software they list until they get the hint. [alert admin]

Cacheman 5.50.0.30 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
The listing says Cacheman is freeware. What you get is a partially disabled copy of CachemanXP, which is $25 shareware. Granted, it does not expire, but the fact remains that it is NOT a fully functional free program. [alert admin]

Freeware is nice, but it needs work.
I finally set it up so that my son and I can play over our home network. This part works fine. Given the absolutely awful computer play, the end result is that we have a decent electronic version of the board game. Being able to resize the board would be a nice improvement.
