Simple Floating Clock 1.5.3 (Mac OS X)
Good replacement for Apple's missing clock ![]()

The author responded kindly to my feedback, and I'm very pleased to be using it in place of the window clock that Apple unceremoniously axed. [alert admin]

CosmoPod 1.9.4 (Mac OS X)
I keep my address bar hidden (cmd-L works just fine for entering an address, and after, it disappears again) but every time I view a page with content that CosmoPod can download, the address bar opens on me and I have to manually close it if I don't want address bars. This didn't always happen--it started with one of the more recent versions (after I paid for it.) I'd like it to work the way it used to. In fact, it would be cool if it didn't even have to be on the address bar. It would be nice if you could start a download from the CosmoPod window. [alert admin]

Changes Meter 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Ran it, tried to paste in an address. That didn't work. Typed in the address painfully by hand. Tried to add a second address, and got the spinning beachball of death. Tried to force quit it, but there's no item in the dock and when I tried force quit on the Apple menu it doesn't show up. Guess I have to restart. After that it's going into the trash. [alert admin]

MPEG2 Works Advanced 4.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Too bad you have to buy it to try the ReplayTV conversion to DVD. Thus far I've had mixed success with ffmpegx (currently fails when trying to make a DVD from a replaytv file that's been converted by replaytools, but it can make a decent AVI file) and Toast (on the occasions it doesn't crash, it still doesn't offer deinterlacing.)
The feature I'd really like to see tackled is conversion of closed captioning (particularly from ReplayTV source, but also from VIDEO_TS titles that only have closed captioning and no titles) to the most commonly used title formats. I've seen nothing on the Mac that does that (except a commercial app for thousands of dollars that does a lot of stuff I don't care about.) I've seen stuff on Windows, but have not tried them.
Obviously, I'm not recommending for or against, because I haven't tried it. [alert admin]

SpyMe 2.0 (Mac OS X)
They provided a great solution for supporting people behind firewalls. I couldn't be happier. Purchased a license right away. Would like standalone PDF documentation, though. [alert admin]

Lab Tick 0.4 (Mac OS X)
Simple improvement...not a complete help
What I'd really like is something that would simply stop the ambient light sensing from changing the backlight brightness. If I could use the normal interface to turn the backlight on and off and change its brightness, and forbid the system from changing it on me, I'd be very happy. On the PowerBook, I could change the bezel services preferences manually to the max and min light values to 1.0 (this also made the backlight increase and decrease buttons ineffective, but the on/off button--F8--still worked.) For some reason, when you change them on the MacBook Pro, the system changes them back! Maybe if the author is really sharp, he can disallow only the changing caused by the sensor, and let the user-interface-related changes continue to work. [alert admin]

MacVCD X 4.2.0 (Mac OS X)
This is trialware or something...it won't let you try the whole thing--only 5 minutes. Thanks for wasting my time! [alert admin]

GPSBabel 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)
Okay, great. It's a Darwin binary--not what I expected, but I was tipped off when unzipping it made a usr/bin construct on my desktop. For grins I double-clicked it. It terminated its process without providing any feedback. There's no documentation, no interface, and it doesn't seem to do anything. Fortunately, it didn't seem to screw up my PowerBook. Now it's in the trash. [alert admin]

I'm not using any hacks of any kind, and it crashed on me a few minutes ago for the first time in weeks. Updated to 3.2 this afternoon. :-(

Thanks for making that feature an option. I hope soon to see the version with makes it an option to change the context menus in Safari.

CosmoPod does not require RealPlayer. It uses it for "Real Media Video Conversion" if you're interested in that.

Thanks. I've become increasingly disappointed with Roxio products over time, and there was no chance I was going to throw the bones on this product without hearing good news. I'm very glad I didn't.

I use the free version. It's fully functional, and works fine for me. The other versions mostly just provide you more storage/"shelf-life" for your files.

Also, it's quite annoying that you can't change the name of the link from the actual text of the link, as you can in any bookmark manager. Some bookmarks are very long, and are annoying to see on a menu.

Oh, come on...the little banner on the bottom isn't killing you, and it's not adware or spyware. If you've ever experienced them, you'd know it's not. It seems to be working well enough in my test...though 1GB isn't my idea of unlimited. IMHO, a limit closer to 10GB would be more useful (hey, I'm not the one who claimed it was unlimited) and it really shouldn't imply in the VersionTracker entry that it's unlimited.

Thank you for the reply. After posting I saw your polite response offering a refund to a very unreasonable and rude purchaser who didn't seem to want to use your message boards for support, so I probably won't have any problem paying up front, after I take a bit more time to look at the app and make sure it's what I want. I believe I have some small files I deliberately downloaded and organized…
