Google Earth 5.1.3506.3999 (Mac OS X)
At the time of this note, Google Earth has a rating of 2.1. How can this be? This is a remarkable program that is offered for free. Whenever I need to take a break, I simply fire up Google Earth and explore the world. It makes me feel like I've been to places that would otherwise be impossible to visit. Rate Google Earth! RAID Monitor 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Simple, works, and reasonably priced ![]()

This is a simple tool that I have installed on 3 computers. Two of the computers use Apple software RAID and one uses a hardware MegaRAID card. On all three computers it has worked perfectly. This software is like an inexpensive insurance policy for people that do not want to write command-line code and prefer a simple configurable GUI. It has a relatively small market and is therefore very reasonably priced. I've used the previous versions for a couple years with no problems. Will Mayall [alert admin]

Kerio MailServer 6.5.2 (Mac OS X)
ActiveSync for the iPhone works properly. The iPod Touch also works if you allow unsupported devices. In the following section of the mailserver.cfg file, change the value from 0 to 1: <table name="MobileSync"> <variable name="AllowUnsupportedDevices">1</variable> HTML and enclosures are not supported with an Exchange account. If you need these features on your iPhone, you can use an Exchange account for calendar and contacts and use an iMAP account for email. Kerio's mail server is a terrific rock solid server that is well supported. [alert admin]

Canon CanoScan Toolbox 4.9.3.3 (Mac OS X)
Although this post says the update is for the LIDE 25, the Canon site also lists this update for the LIDE 500F. I'd guess it is appropriate for a number of Canon scanners. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.8.0b1 (Mac OS X)
Onyx is a superb tool. I've used it since it came out. I've used it on about 30 Macs probably 100's of times. I have never had a problem because of Onyx. It has fixed numerous problems. Most of Onyx's options should only be used if you have a good understanding of what it is doing. Many of them are affecting core system resources. You should never run Onyx on a Mac that is having hard drive problems. I strongly recommend first running DiskWarrior. All in all, a great tool. 5 stars. Will Mayall [alert admin]

Denes 1.1.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Denes is a great addition for EIMS! ![]()

If you use EIMS and you use any of the DNS lookup filters, you should consider using Denes. It is much more powerful than the standard DNS filters and consolidates them all into one. Deep Sky Technologies is a reliable firm that has been around for years. If nothing else, give it a try in demo mode! [alert admin]

Counteragent 1.6 (Mac OS X)
Use EIMS? Then buy Counteragent ![]()

If you use EIMS, it is a no-brainer to buy Counteragent. First, it's only $35! Second, it really works. Installation is very simple and fast. It runs transparently. The virus db in ClamAV is updated automatically. Within minutes of installation, it caught a virus. And this is after many filters had already been applied. It also catches phishing which is probably even more prevalent than viruses. [alert admin]

We've used Summary for many years and are extremely pleased. The price is excellent, support superb, and the resulting reports are comprehensive. If you need log analysis, you must try Summary. It truly deserves 5 stars in every category. [alert admin]

I've checked and I don't see any Google or Keystone processes running. I see no evidence that there is an auto-update process running. Nor do I ever remember authorizing the installation of such a process (which would have been required to get it running as root). Point me to where I can see this process running.
