Friendz 2.8b (Mac OS X)

Could not logon to XBL

I sincerely tried, but although I could login and view friends and messages via the web and via Xbox Friends (which I have different issues with and therefore tried this app), I was unable to login at all - whether I was logged in with another app at the time or if it were the first after all were logged off. Xbox Live Friends 3.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Very nice; only a couple of shortcomings

I wanted an AIM/iChat way to keep track of my friends on XBL. I found that with Xbox Friends, and for the most part it looks great and works well. Just some items I'd like addressed for the next version: 1. Cannot autologin. Must use Friends>Login (cmd-L), then click complete. 2. Doesn't autorefresh. Must continually check on "complete login" screen every few minutes. 3. Apparently doesn't handshake well with WindowsLive login, as it times out every hour. 4. Cannot view or send messages - crashes application each and every time. MDD G4 (dual 1.42GHz, 2G RAM, broadband connection) Again, looks great and is onto a very good start, but I quit app in frustration at least once daily due to the above. Thanks [alert admin]

Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Inclusive of Intel chipsets only?

Curious if it's in reference only to the machine, or more to the actual airport card. For example, for my Dual G4 MDD (last before G5s), I purchased an airport extreme card three months ago (long after MacPros were getting their cards - ie, the same card). If it's only a wireless update, then it should work with my card. If it's tied to the Intel chipset, however, they should overtly state that. [alert admin]

Photo to Movie 3.1.2 (Mac OS X)

I support LQ Graphics...

and their effort at making something that "should be a relatively easy task for something so repetitive" work so well. As mentioned below, iDVD blows (at the moment) for slideshows, iMovie takes a lot of time, and mixing Ken Burns with effects is lengthy (not to mention the additional motion techniques you can use here and not iMovie), making this a very solid niche piece of software that most folks will find they actually have a use for. I've supported them since version 2, but only made heavy use out of it after reading the online manual (wish it told me more "how-to's", but I got the jist) and wound up making five movies in three weeks of family & church functions, importing them into iMovie, and outputting to tape. Great stuff - only one request LQ: File size. If you save for web, or even medium sizes, converting it to flash (with Sorenson squeeze, for example) makes the files still at least 5mb, often larger, and it's just too much for dial-up users to get to; anything we can do to keep the size of the exported file down some? (please oh please, I've been playing with MM Flash MX and God help me I'll never figure it out - and yeah, I've completely RTFM :-) [alert admin]

Safari Prairiefire 0.9.7 (Mac OS X)

Do not get this

This application, once with version 0.9.6 and now with 0.9.7, and each time after doing a complete search and analysis (yes I registered it JUST so I could even demo it - wouldn't work otherwise) it completely deleted all of my bookmarks. Now I'm just pissed at the application, and won't bother even downloading new versions - I've had it. I've been using mac apps since 1985, and this is the among one of the true pits. [alert admin]

iPhoto Library Manager 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Always been great

This was a great idea, and it continues to work for me, even though I just installed iLife04. I have almost 12,000 photos (I have quadruplets, so sue me :), and found that even with the capability to have them all in one master iPhoto library again, that I'm going to NOT trash the separate libraries created through this program. It's just too nice to have the separation (in my case, by year) of the libraries - especially for some of the reasons mentioned below (single point of failure). All I'd like to see now is for the library creator to use the new file type so I don't to have to have iPhoto "upgrade" each library create. Otherwise, a simply outstanding program. Cannot wait for 2.1. Great job - keep up the good work - we appreciate it greatly. [alert admin]

Edit/Update

Wish I could edit posts - ah, well. Correction/clarification to my previous post. I can scan by importing via Photoshop, PhotoElements, etc. What is broken in Panther for me (Dual 1.42 G4 w/2G RAM) is The Epson software and smart controller. Cheers [alert admin]

Wish I could say the same...

...but I too experienced the problem (perfection 3170), and followed your advice. Unfortunately, the software crashes during scan while on auto, right after the scan on home and professional. If you choose only to scan and save, it gives you the thumbnails after a 10 minute wait, and then after you click "next".....nothing. Ah well, hope the update is out soon. After having the scanner for a month solid on 10.2.8, my wife glibbly asks, "So why again did you get Panther?" [alert admin]
