Genuine Fractals 5.0 (Mac OS X)
I've used GF since version 1 and found it to be an excellent tool to have. Clients often send me low-res images to use for print projects. Many times Genuine Fractals will allow me to rez up an image to a usable print resolution. Not as good as having a full-res image, but I'm glad I have this as a backup. I put the new interpolation algorithms through their paces and found visible improvement over version 4 using identical images. The plugin now works effortlessly with Photoshop CS3. The new features alone make it worth the upgrade price -- the ability to sharpen within the plugin and the ability to run GF on layered images. If you're upgrading, this is definitely worthwhile. If you're just shopping, compare this plug-in against Alien Skin Blowup -- the two yield different results. See which you prefer. If I were to buy one of the plugins today, though, it would definitely be Genuine Fractals. I prefer the feature set and the enlargement results the new algorithm yields. [alert admin]

BackupBuddy 2.0.14 (Palm OS)
BackupBuddy was great under Mac OS 9. It was an essential Palm utility. But it looks like once again, Mac users get left out in the cold on this revision. Still no OS X support. Sad. [alert admin]

Joke Ridge 1.0 (Mac OS 9)
a prepress environment, we often get CDs which were burned with the wrong settings and have Mac filenames truncated. This control panel works great! I give it 3 stars because it's really kind of kludgy -- I wouldn't recommend leaving it installed in your Control Panels as it says it interferes with come other CD mounting software, so I install it, use it, uninstall it and reinstall the extensions I had to remove to get this to work. I'll take the inconvenience to finally be able to see the long filenames! The extra star is because it's free! [alert admin]

Macromedia Shockwave Player 8.5.325 (Mac OS 9)
That's an hour of my life I'll never get back. Went back to version 7 and it installed like dream. I usually dig Macromedia products, but i think someone there messed up and laid off the wrong 40 employees... [alert admin]

seems quicker and more responsive than previous builds. 16 grays mode is a little hard to view on my Visor Platinum. [alert admin]

MicroJournal 1.3 (Palm OS)
prefer it over Pocket Quicken because I think it does a better job as a standalone personal finance app, and it exports .qif files should I want to sync it with a desktop copy of Quicken. Personally, I don't bother. I can enter checks, withdrawals, debit transactions, etc. at point of sale rather than stuffing receipts into my wallet or pocket only to be forgotten about and never entered into desktop Quicken. This app pays for itself if I save the fee for one overdraft. The sync with QuikBudget is amazing! With these 2 apps, I have finally gotten control over my money. [alert admin]
