StuffIt Deluxe 2009 13.0.3 (Mac OS X)
As a long time StuffIt user (from the beginning) I have to admit to falling off the bandwagon a few years ago when I got tired of paying for updates that added little functionality for my purposes. Along came a need to segment files, and so I finally bought a new version (last was V 9 or 10?). Other than a few little problems, it works really well so far as I can tell. The compression is a tad slower than the built in archiver of OSX.5 but the compression is about 20% better in my tests! The minor problems both revolve around segmenting, one I almost understand the other I do not (I assume it is a bug). One can only segment a large file/folder from DropStuff, the Segment command in the Magic Menu will only compress your file regardless of your preferences and settings. Hopefully that is a bug that will be addressed, soon. It would also be nice if one could select a folder and then compress it and segment it with one MagicMenu command. The larger problem is that DropStuff can only segment a StuffItX file. It would be nice to be able to segment ANY compressed file, especially given that StuffIt 'understands' RAR, ZIP, TAR, Etc. I hope that in ten years sitx will still be supported and understood as a file format since I cannot guarantee that I will have a computer that runs StuffIt. There is a part of the software called the archive manager - I am still not sure what good this is, other than it seems to let you preview the contents of archives. While that is useful it seems that there may have been easier ways of handling that function than needing a separate application. Just my opinion. Overall, I think StuffIt gets a bad rap. It compresses things better than other software and does it without much fuss. Too bad segmenting does not work the way I want it to. I was able to create a DropStuff droplet that handles a Stuff & Compress action and that will do what I want, just not the way I want it to - it is rough getting old and lazy... [alert admin]

FoldersSynchronizer 3.6.3 (Mac OS X)
Good software - Recommended... ![]()

Other than a minor irritation with .DS_Store files (I would like to skip them, somehow, but the skip function works by file, not filename) this software works very well. I use it to synchronize backup my drive, and my laptop and desktop computers. I also used it to copy over my directory structure when I upgraded a computer - not flawless, but pretty darn close! Many thanks to the developer. [alert admin]

SoundSource 2.0 (Mac OS X)
About the only thing to add that I can think of is the ability to set up keys to swap I/O. I switch between my soundsticks and audio out a lot and would like to set that up on a function key. [alert admin]

Another terrific update for this long overlooked piece of software. It may not always be the most "Mac-like" piece of software available, but then neither is OSX. Once you get used to its peculiarities, it works, really well (both Panorama and OSX). [alert admin]

Why M$ cannot write decent software is beyond me. All it takes is a few minutes of testing to make sure things work properly - but I guess since Billy wants to save the world he needs YOUR (and my) money more than a software QC department. This business of having to reinstall the software - AND reboot AND run repair permissions even though NO changes were made is just stupid. Do I have to to do this for EVERY update? I have to pay $49 to be told that? I have to pay $49 to complain about it? At least the "update" is free. Less my time for the reinstall and v12.1 update just to install the 12.1.1 update. Where do I send the bill? [alert admin]

Return to Dark Castle 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Error: Unable to open "DC3 UserKey" file. Error -999 (unknown function)
I will buy it when it comes out, but while waiting (some more) thought I would try the demo. I get the error in the subject line and am unable to open the game. The scarier part is that the file is created when I open the game! Please help. 1.67 GHz PB, with OSX.4.11 [alert admin]

Reckless Driving 1.53 (Mac OS X)
Add my name to the lost of heartbroken users...
I also get the error, which also appeared in v1.52. I am assuming it has to do with the ".10" part of OSX.4.10 but cannot recall when I upgraded. (FWIW - I am using a G5) Jonas, please fix RD, I miss this game a lot. [alert admin]

Based on my single attempt, it is not possible. Canvas is not a supported format for Easy Draw. It might be an interesting project for the developer...

This is noted on the main page. Supposedly it is a packager problem and a new version will be available shortly.

Actually, I think they only dropped plans to produce a universal binary version. It remains unclear to me whether they dropped VPC altogether. They certainly took their sweet time about announcing it, since the product essentially died when Boot Camp and Parallels were announced and demonstrated. It certainly feels like the PPC-VPC is dead since those of us with modern day G5 desktop computers running OSX.4 seem to be forgotten - I cannot install 702 on…

Actually, it will read/write mp3's - you just have to install the FREE support package. I do not remember the link but it and the instructions are in the documentation.
