AbiWord 2.3.5 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Sadly...

..it is just too slow starting up to replace WordPad for me. Has to load too many common libraries to really be zippy. Pity, because it's nice. I'll stick with it in the hope that the start-up speed improves. [alert admin]

RegExplorer 1.0.2 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Has the most annoying nag ever

...a three-minute program shutdown limit, with the 'Quit' and 'Close' functions completely disabled. Hideous and pretty basic. Immediately uninstalled. [alert admin]

Gotta give 'em credit...

...for the honesty of the 'What's New In This Version' section of the update; not many shareware authors admit how many of their updates are 99% anti-piracy measures. [alert admin]

Watch out for unintentionally erased cookies

I just installed the latest update (28_06_05), ran CC amd it reported taht it erased all my cookies. I specifically made sure this was NOT set to happen, so now I have a week of finding old passwords to come. Good app, but loses two stars for that. [alert admin]

FastStone Image Viewer 2.0.6 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Not bad but...

...does not preview PNG files (i.e. in Thumbnail view), though it renders them fine in the image viewer sidebar. [alert admin]

Shame you can't delete your own hasty comments on Versiontracker. This is pretty damn good. [alert admin]

Best browser out there

You might want to check the version being reviewed before criticising others' comments, since developers listen and respond to comments. I was commenting on V7.06 thrashing the hard disk - they sorted this out in V8, and V9 is very nice.

Excuse me but....

If you have clients that will accept b eing locked into a contract with you, lucky you. I'm sorry, but PHP developers have to contribute to the knowledgebase of their clients pretty much by definition. You are in a rare position.
