Compare Folders 3.1 (Mac OS X)
There is something similar built into OSX, but it just wouldn't solve my problem. I had 3 iTunes libraries on internal and external drives. Some songs were in all three libraries. Some songs were in two of the libraries and some were in only one, but it could be any one of the three. Two of the libraries had hundreds of songs and the third had thousands. The thought of sorting out this chaos manually was a nightmare. Compare Folders to the rescue. I decided to pick one as the master library and compare the two other libraries in turn. You can view duplicate, unique or similar items and so using the Copy To function you can soon get the chaos into order. I could have done the same job with one of the synchronisation apps that I have, but the real benefit of Compare Folders is the way that what is happening is laid out so well. Criticism? No family licence available. With soon to be 4 Macs in the house, this would have been a nice option. [alert admin]

MailSteward 8.0.3 (Mac OS X)
I had been looking at this software since it was version 7.x where x was a large number and wondering if I should hang around for the next version to come out. After all too much fruitless searching of emails in Mail I decided that I might as well bite the bullet and buy the app. As luck would have it the app had matured into v8 so I downloaded it and archived the 8,700 in Mail into MailSteward. It's not a quick process, so set aside some time, especially of you are still running a 1.33 PowerBook. Good: I had a problem with an error message, which was sorted almost instantly by the author. Good: I can find things again! Bad: I wish that it had NOT statements in the field drop down menus. Not currently being an expert on SQL means that I will have to dig out the book to find out the right syntax as there is nothing in the Help file to give you a clue. Bad: The dates are the wrong way around for us Brits. We like DDMMYYYY. Bad: A family license would be good Overall: Yes I like it. I would recommend it. [alert admin]

Delicious Library 1.6.6 (Mac OS X)
Beware The Debit Card Service Charge ![]()

My better half wanted something simple for her iMac to keep track of a huge DVD collection so, impressed by the barcode scanning, I advised her to get Delicious Library. It hasn't turned out to be too bad. The scanning can be a bit pernickety, but much waving around of the DVD normally gets 3 DVDs in 10 registered into the database. Otherwise it is a good application. Beware the extra charge that gets put onto your debit card, (which you only find out about when you get your bank statement). And don't expect support to answer your question as to why this has been added, she hasn't had an answer 3 weeks later. [alert admin]

Graph Paper Maker 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)
I thought that it might be nice to download and use at times where I have got no net connection, but for the amount that I would use it I didn't see that it was worth nearly $20 when you can get the same for free on the net. [alert admin]

FlickrExport for iPhoto 2.0.11 (Mac OS X)
I came back to this for a second look but noticed that it is heavily crippled in the trial period. I always loathe this sort of thing, although I can understand the author wanting to be rewarded for his/her work, but this went too far for me. Why not a maximum upload of 50 photos in the trial period and why "watermark" them? This looks like a better solution than 1001, which I use, but the crippling has made me go and look elsewhere. I hope that you will learn to trust potential users more than you are at the moment. [alert admin]

ImageWell 3.2.2 (Mac OS X)
I have been using this for a while and paid the money to upgrade for the extra features. I don't need anything complex, just being able to batch resize a load of pics and send them to a directory which I then upload to Photobucket or FlickR after renaming with FileList. It just works, it has never let me down. If only everything was this simple! All I need to do now is find out about all those things that it does that I haven't bothered to learn! [alert admin]

ConvertIt Pro 2.6.3 (Mac OS X)
I have tried two emails to the author with a question about upgrades but have not had a response despite having registered the product. Is he still in business? Does he respond. [alert admin]

Sticky Windows 2.1 (Mac OS X)
I got quite excited when I first saw this, which is probably an indication that I spend too much time alone and at the keyboard of my PowerBook. I installed it and decided that it seemed like a quite reasonable piece of software, but I noticed that if you use monitor spanning you can only use one side and the bottom of the screen. Quite reasonable really, but what threw me a bit was when I disconnected the monitor whilst having one of the Sticky Windows tabs at the side of the screen. When the screen in use returned to the Powerbook screen that tab had disappeared and the window had closed down. I tend to have a couple of browser windows open and each will have about 5 tabs open in it. If you drag these across to the side of the screen the chances are that you wont know which browser tab is in which Sticky Windows tab. Not the fault of Sticky Windows, but it limits the applications usability. I wanted to email the author to tell him about these problems, but there is no obvious link on his site. I had decided to definitely register the app at one point, but something said no, look for an alternative. On the whole it is good, but there is something missing. [alert admin]

DeepVacuum 1.65 (Mac OS X)
It was a long road that I travelled to get to this application. I was originally going to buy Webstractor, but the price was a bit high. They offer educational pricing so as I had a course coming up I decided to wait. It took months to get the course organised and then weeks on top of that to get the student number issued. I finally went off to Webstractors site and the site was down and has been for over a week. I looked at the reviews on VT of similar apps and none had very impressive feedback, but eventually one piece of feedback pointed to DeepVacuum. I downloaded DV and installed it. Within 5 minutes I had decided that this was the application for me and went of to register it. Some people ask why use an application like this. For me it is because there are just so many sites that I can't access at work. This way I can DL the site or parts of a site that I want to look at to my laptop and then take that to work for the research that I want to do in my lunch break. I can also download sites whilst at my girlfriend's house and take the laptop back to mine, a house with no phone line. Even in the UK, by the time that the tax has been added this app only cost 7.52 GBP. Give it a whirl. You wont go wrong. [alert admin]

I don't need to press upload for each photo in 1001. I just select all of them and press upload once. Perhaps we are using a different version.

In the end I gave up using it. Having to enter the date in the "wrong" format every time just became tedious. Macs make working easy, but this application doesn't.

Chances are that it wont. There is an equal chance of any number being picked out, whether it was picked out the week before or not. It's random!! You can't improve your chances of winning except by buying more tikets, but you could increase your chances of not sharing a jackpot by picking 6 consecutive numbers in the UK lottery. Make sure that they are not 1 - 6 though as a fair…

Me too - same problem. Went off to Adobe's site and downloaded AC705Stp_ddnsfsip. That doesn't work - just tells you that you are trying to patch an invalid application - grrr!
