FontDoc 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)
FontDoc has become a brilliant tool. Not only does it now look in uninstalled font folders but it digs into multiple subfolders. I ran it today on a folder containing 21 subfolders with each of those having 2-3 folders of fonts. FontDoc pulled ALL of them up. There is a Size drop-down menu for viewing the fonts but the view size is also editable within the view box. I could enter 31.125 pt. for example. Being able to view at 150 pt. is a blessing for Dingbats. It's fast, simple and free! Some Feature Requests: - I'd like to see a custom text box next to Font Name Display also. To add numbers or special symbols. - Toggle the background/fonts to reverse (white font on black). - Add line breaks in the Custom Text [alert admin]

Excentro 1.6b6 (Mac OS X)
will love this app as an addition to their other vector software programs. What is very important to know is Excentro, in it's demo state, has ALL the functionality of the paid version except saving it into it's native format. I can easily design my guilloche backgrounds and export it into Illustrator or Freehand for further editing. Yes, this is worth paying for if I was a banknote or certificate designer and I need to refine my designs continuously... it's an important tool toward the tedious building of guilloche designs. But as I am a graphic designer, building a background or border in one sitting is perfect and thus Excentro is an awesome find! My sincere kudos to Excourse for making their demo software free of crippling limitations. [alert admin]

X Font Info 1.1b1 (Mac OS X)
This hasn't been updated in a couple of years and there are no instructions but it still works fine on my Dual 2.3 PPC G5 with Tiger 10.4.3. There are some limitations to be aware of however: X Font does NOT recognize Postscript/Printer fonts (LWFN) and it will beep and do nothing if you try. It WILL recognize TrueType (Mac and Windows), Screen Fonts (FFIL) and OpenType (OTF). X Font could use an upgrade to include preferences like adjusting the default character appearance (it is set at "ABC...123..") since most graphic and web artists will find this app useful. Plus a way to view the complete character map would be welcome. But this is free from the developer and it fits an important niche for those of us who have a plethora of fonts. [alert admin]

MP3 Dock 1.5 (Mac OS X)
MP3 Dock doesn't replace iTunes. What I find it useful for is selectively listening to my music folders (artist, genre, etc.) in my massive music collection particularly as I download new tunes. I then add music files I think are worthy to the iTunes Library to control the glut that the Library already is. I paid for MP3 Dock at 1.0 but seeing this excellent app free is awesome and gracious. It has many features so look closely at the Guide. It works well in Tiger. My requests to be a 5-star rating: • Add AAC compatability • A better way to see what's playing than the tiny type under the dock icon. MD-200-966-6672 [alert admin]

Barquee 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I was hesitant to try this after a previous post referred to Barquee being a Synergy knockoff, but I'm glad I came back and downloaded it. The fact it stays in ONLY my menu bar is great. Simple and out-of-the-way. I like being able to choose which type of info and the order it presents (song, artist, rating, playlist, etc). Especially nice is being able to expand the width to fill my menu bar's empty space. Good Hotkey selection and I can customize the app with any color or font. What needs improvement is changing preferences. It demands using a "control-click" on the control buttons which is a tiny area on my Cinema Display. I hit the song info area too many times and it would advance the song instead. The available themes are a bit ordinary and sparse, although I can see some cool things being done with the menu bar. Like the way the old Mint Audio had a small visualizer attached to it's control bar. [alert admin]

I don't know where you got the idea this is Payware but I've been able to use this with all the features listed. Granted, it's quirky, since the interface is awkward and saving files requires manually adding the file extension. But it's quick to handle single tracks and it's free. (Stick with the free Audacity if you want multi-track editing and mixing.) The developer offers a Wavepad Masters Edition that has batch, macros, projects, bookmarks, regions,…

It appears that the System Requirements for Leopard only are misleading. I downloaded this version to my 10.4 G5 and it started up and recorded just fine.

Right, it needs an update. In the meantime, make an alias of the iTunes-LAME Encoder from your iTunes Scripts folder. Click it whenever you need to activate and it will start the encoding/import in iTunes.
