APC Tracker 4.3 (Mac OS X)
Hi, I would just like to quickly comment on the APC Tracker Software for APC UPS systems. This software has not been tested by APC and is not officially supported by them. I have tested the Software and have found it sometimes to report errors and loss of communication and due to the unique communication protocols used by APC with their products it would be difficult to work it out. PCNS 2.00 for MAC OS x is supported up to 10.4.6 at the moment. The version number of 2.0 does not imply it is bihind the windows version of 2.2.1, but was designated 2.0 as it was the first version to support MAC. Because Apple do not provide APC with pre releases of their OS versions, APC have to wait until a version is released before testing and compatibility, and so will always be a couple of versions behind, unlike with Microsoft Operating Systems, as APC are partners of Microsoft and so get to pretest and support the Software when the OS is released. On the Networking side, PCNS 2.0 supports the APC web cards AP9617/18/19 with XServes and 10.4.6. The AP9618/19 cards also provide the Temp and Humidity control also. Powerchute Personal Edition, although only supporting basic Back UP UPS for home computers and desktop pc's with USB on windows, does provide full support on MAC OS 10.4.6 with APC Smart UPS's either with the APC serial Cable or USB. However, it is found that the MAC's built in Native support is just as good if not better than the Personal Edition. There will not be a supported MAC version of Powerchute Business Edition (The more advanced software) for MAC. Early next year, Both PCNS and Business Edition will be jointly replaced by a single software for serial and Network support including MAC OS systems, called Powerchute Server Edition. cheers [alert admin]
