Chax 1.4.2b2 (Mac OS X)

Pretty cool!

Nice idea, and nice implementation...my only suggestion is for the tabs feature. Would it be possible to make it more like Safari? For example, allow multiple windows of tabs, and keep the "New Window" command in the File menu but also add a "New Tab" option. (Of course, you still would't want the close box to close the whole window, but would it be possible to use a modifier like option to make it close the window itself?) Thanks so much for this! Please don't peg me as ungrateful, I'm just a perfectionist! :) [alert admin]

MenuShade 1.0 (Mac OS X)

One more thought...

...it would also be great if the menu bar stayed opaque for a user-specified amount of time after the mouse leaves the menu bar. (Right now, all you can specify is how long the fading "transition" lasts for.) [alert admin]

MenuShade 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Pretty cool...

This is really well-implemented...I especially like the transparency feature. Also, it's really responsive; good, since sluggish triggering would have been a deal-breaker for me. My one suggestion is to add a feature where the menu bar doesn't fade away if a menu is open - currently, if I were to open, say, the Edit menu and move my mouse down into the menu, the menu bar dims, leaving just the menu itself at full brightness. Either that, or find a way for just the Edit menu item to remain fully lit. (That would probably be difficult, though.) Great work overall, though! [alert admin]

GrabCam 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Fun stuff...

That's pretty cool for a first release! It'd be awesome to see some additional presets, like some more detailed particle effects, but I'm not complaining. [alert admin]

Chalaut 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Haven't tried this yet...

...but I think what'd be even more useful is a contextual menu item to launch things as root. Still, it's nice to have an app like this for free. [alert admin]

gDisk 0.4 (Mac OS X)

Perhaps a workaround for the 10 MB limit...

Is it possible to incorporate a file splitter into gDisk? I'm thinking that with something like Split and Concat built in, you would put all your files in a zip archive, and the app would split the file into 10 MB segments – thereby allowing, technically, files of any size. [alert admin]

Transmission 0.2 (Mac OS X)

Very snappy.

This makes the official BitTorrent client seem like bloatware. While it doesn't seem to upload for some reason, always hovering in the 0.1 Kb/s range, my download speeds are much better than the official one. It immediately connects to a bunch of peers for torrents where the official client fails to show any full seeds. While bandwidth fluctuates wildly, likely because of the upload problem, it's overall much faster. For the next version, I'd like to see a progress bar that can scale, as the current one is just too tiny. Also, it be possible to use the native GUI for it as well, I wonder? I'm a ShapeShifter junkie, so this would make me very happy. [alert admin]

Google Maps Widget 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Better version...

...It seems that version 2.0 has corrected whatever ills this widget had - I've never used it before now. You can resize it to whatever size you want, and that's pretty slick. In my opinion, it's quite convenient. However, the preference "i" button should be present even if you don't enter a search. Finally, I'll really be impressed once this thing can retrieve directions, using two pop-up menus accessing your Address Book to set the start and end locations. I've got somewhat less use for just the map, and it doesn't seem like this would be too difficult. [alert admin]

Seashore 0.1.5 (Mac OS X)

Very impressive.

I've used a few different iterations of the GIMP on OS X, and although I haven't explored Seashore too thoroughly, it is a worthy OS X translation. While I'm not sure if this is really meant to be a complete Cocoa port, the UI's similarity to the GIMP - with the added Mac-friendliness – makes me optimistic. Overall, it seemed very responsive. One suggestion/feature request would be to add live-updating previews for filters like Brightness/Contrast. It's clumsy the way it is now. [alert admin]

D-Vision 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Simply won't work

Neither version 3.0.3 nor 3.0.2 will work past the setup installer for me. Every time, the installer opens after D-Vision gives an alert that not all the components are installed. However, it keeps saying that mencoder is not installed. When I click "install," however, the red "x" denoting something not installed then changes to a green check mark without any disk activity. Lo and behold, D-Vision again refuses to go past the setup assistant again. Anyone have any ideas? [alert admin]

Hosed my Mac OS 10.3.9

That doesn't really have anything to do with any security update; those can't cause physical problems with your hard drive. I was doing some mundane task on the internet when that same thing happened to my old iBook. The drive's hosed, though, so I'm sorry you have to go through that.

results out of whack

Your standards seem too high...My machine is very similar to yours (1.67 GHz, 512 MB Ram, 128 video) and the demo for the normal COD performs very well. It couldn't be that different from United Offensive.
