AppleJack 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Problem Detected!

After installing Applejack 1.5 on a G4 Digital Audio PPC mac w/1.4 Ghz Sonnet upgrade with 10.4.11, had difficulty with program in OS X, and machine would not boot back into OS 9. After removing and reinstalling v1.4.3, all is well. There must be some incompatibility with Tiger. [alert admin]

AppleJack 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Best program for OS X

This little program has saved my machines (and several machines at work) many times. I am using a G4 Digital Audio (w/dual 1.27 Ghz processor upgrade), and can confirm that this works great. [alert admin]

QuarkXPress 8.0 (Mac OS X)

Quark as Layout Program

Quark is a MUCH better layout program than In-Design. Text layout itself ends my argument. If you use Quark you know exactly what I mean. And regarding PDFs -- most people don't know how to MAKE a proper pdf. I get them ALL DAY LONG, and have to fix them 95% of the time -- which basically makes them useless. They were suppose to end the need for prepress to have to alter the files. But since we all know that most people that submit these know absolutely nothing about prepress and printing, a pdf is only as good as the person's knowledge in creating one. [alert admin]

QuarkXPress 8.0 (Mac OS X)

Just remember...

Without QuarkXpress, there is no real competition for InDesign. Quark pushes Adobe to make their products better. Without competition, InDesign would not be what it is today. Personally, I am not a fan of InDesign -- but I agree that Quark is not what it used to be. But let's not kill it off! [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Mac OS X)

Getting Worse

Things just keep getting worse instead of better. Now not only does my machine not shut down properly (which was suppose to be corrected in this version), but my machine does not boot properly either. I had no problems like this with Tiger. Apple is driving me away as a customer with the crappy support for this version of the OS. If you're on an older machine, don't waste your money on the upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. Tiger is FAR superior on older machines -- it works better and it's still being updated -- so why upgrade? [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5.3 (Mac OS X)

Getting Worse

Just keeps getting worse and worse. Within five minutes got the dreaded shutdown message. Have had problems with two apps (ASM, and DragThing). Also, machine with not shutdown or logout properly. STAY with Tiger!!! Leopard is NOT ready for prime-time yet, and may never be as great as Tiger was! [alert admin]

System Prefs CRASH

This version causes System Prefs to crash on G4 with OS 10.5.3 Leopard. Have tried deleting old prefs, but still doesn't work. Very frustrated! [alert admin]

Very Odd Finder Behavior

You wouldn't be able to "accidentally install this. It runs through several buttons which ask if you want to install the software and where. It just doesn't install by double-clicking the package. Furthermore, this program only runs in the Single-User mode, which requires you to boot your machine using Cmd-S when starting up. The errors that you are showing randomly appear on my machines, and according to the reports I've read, this is not an…

Follow up...

Straight from the horses mouth -- Note: Although QuarkXPress 7.01 also runs on PowerPC®-based G4s or later, there is no need to install this upgrade if you are not using an Intel-based Mac®. The changes are that it is not a universal app which runs on Intel machines -- that's it.

Use CCI

Can Combine Icons doesn't work right anymore in Tiger. Doesn't draw list icons properly when customizing them. Also, at launch it sometimes causes my G4 to go into the infinite spinning beachball. Didn't do that until Tiger broke the app. I don't recommend THIS app, but I can't agree with your comment either. I agree that Can Combine Icons would be a better app if the author would update it.

Before installing: delete library/internet plug-ins/NP-PPC-Director-Shockwave AND library/application support/Shockwave (entire folder). Empty trash. Then run installer. Works every time.

Sorry, that's "...products!!!!" Sorry, I couldn't resist the poke. Just can't seem to get interested in a product that thinks so much of itself.
