Mozilla Firefox 3.5 (Mac OS X)
Quick, stable no problems. A vast improvement from the previous version of Firefox which was pretty good to begin with but this is all that much better. Very happy with the experience thus far and FF remains my default browser. [alert admin]

iAntiVirus Free Edition 1.35 (Mac OS X)
I was worried to give this thing a shot with all the complaints about CPU usage. I have the activity monitor opened and don't see any issues at all. It's actually showing 0 CPU usage. The protect my mac feature is on. I really don't even notice it running. It's free and only gives protection for Mac viruses(which are next to non or none depending who you talk to) and I intend to keep it around. Hasn't hurt and you just never know. [alert admin]

ClamXav 1.1.1e951 (Mac OS X)
Check the scan logs and you'll see a message stating the engine is outdated. The are now on engine 952 which came out on June 10th. You can update it if you use developer tools which is something many of us DO NOT use. While I think it's great the program is free, please find an easier way to update. [alert admin]

Firefox 3.0.10 (Mac OS X)
No issues to report, no lost passwords, no add ons broken, no cookies being reset, speed is fine, everything runs as it should. This version is mostly security fixes so I'm not expecting a super jump in performance. While it performs fine, I'm really looking forward to 3.5. But for now, this is still my main browser. aMule 2.2.4 (Mac OS X)
Does not support the architecture of my Intel iMac. Is this a developer build or something? Last version I had worked just fine. [alert admin]

OmniWeb 5.9.2 (Mac OS X)
I really wanted to like this browser but working with blogger was just a nightmare and I use blogger a lot. It also couldn't render my blog properly which was odd. It split t into 2 tabs. No other browser does this and I test it on an browser I can get my hands on. I'm using a standard template also. The browser is fast and has a lot of preferences that you can teak which is nice. I grew tired of being handcuffed by Safari but don't care for drawers that slide out. Not a bad thing just not for me. With this browser becoming free and the Omni group more or less saying they're going to focus on other things, I think this long standing browsers days may be numbered. Nice speed but the bad WYSIWYG editing was a deal breaker for me. If you don't blog, this will be a fine browser for you. Best of all, it's now free. [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 9.1 (Mac OS X)
This is not an attack on the software or Adobe I just don't see why I would need this when PDF handling is done fine by OS X itself. It kind of reminds me of stuffit expander. Not much need for that nowadays either. Am I missing something that Reader can do and OS X can't? [alert admin]

Opera 9.64 (Mac OS X)
A solid browser with some drawbacks ![]()

I know there's a lot of complaints from people because Opera is not "pretty" enough for them, but this is a very fast browser with rich capabilities. I can surf, use bittorrent and blast out emails from this thing. With all that power I'm willing to forgive it for not looking like Safari even though I don't think Safari looks that spectacular to begin with. Nor do I feel that a programs value should be based solely on looks. My major gripe is that as quick as this browser is, it does not play nice with youtube, hulu or most of the other video sites out there which is a shame. Playback is very choppy and I hope the makers of this browser correct the problem especially with hulu which was unwatchable in full screen mode. I'm running a2008 aluminum iMac with 4 gigs of ram. That shouldn't happen. Some will also gripe about keychain support. It doesn't have it. this is a non issue for me. If you just want to surf, check email and surf some more, this browser maybe worth a look. It's quick and lean on the memory and resources. [alert admin]

Mailplane 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)
Good product with loads of potential. ![]()

I gave this one a shot since I use gmail for my multiple email accounts. It was easy to use and the interface was nice. In the end it's hard for me to pay for it when I can get thunderbird or use Mail.app for free. If you don't mind paying this product will suit your gmail needs well. [alert admin]

Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (Mac OS X)
Not as integrated as Mail.app but better in many ways ![]()

I wanted to use Mail.app and did for many years but it's handling of Gmail IMAP in Leopard became very slow and buggy for me. It also lost the trademark "bling" sound when new mail arrived. Actually it did it sporadically. Such a letdown. I tried all sorts of things to get better performance from mail.app and got nowhere so I decided to give thunderbird a shot. Gmail IMAP support is excellent and mailboxes load quickly. I couldn't be happier. Yes I have lost some functionality but not enough to make me switch back to mail.app. Thunderbird has been a tank in terms of stability and it has speed. I wish it had better Growl support but overall, I'm a satisfied customer. [alert admin]
