TimeSlider 1.2 (Mac OS X)

A small suggestion

Interesting time display. Perhaps it would be possible to have user input for the arrangement of the lines of the Classic clock (as in the Apple Date and Time customization)-- hours minutes seconds day month year Also, I was wondering whether it would be possible for a preference choice to have the clocks use transparent colors and bars so that everything is still visible on the desktop, especially when they are full-screen. GraphicConverter 6.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Still not perfect

but then what in this world is perfect? 1. Tools are not present when an image is opened. They appear only after TWO command-Ks. Maybe it has something to do with Leopard since it has been this way since I replaced my iMac (700 MHz-10.3.9) with a Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.2). 2. Smudge tool, when clicking, does not 'smooth' areas. Instead, it makes them more pixellated. Dragging is even worse. GC 5.9.5 has that part correct. 3. Some scaling operations cause a grid pattern in the image that makes it look as though it had been photographed through a window screen. B-spline is the best choice. Bi-cubic with dither is my second choice. For most scaling operations, I usually rely on the Lanczos 3 algorithm. Maybe 6.1.3 will fix these first two problems. GC has come a long way in the ten years I have been using it. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 7.7 (Mac OS X)

What's up with TWO releases?

Yesterday morning I downloaded iTunes 7.7 which had a Release Date: 2008-07-09 (on VT). This is the SAME version but with a Release Date: 2008-07-10. Did someone forget to rename the version as 7.7.1, or was it released yesterday in error (WITH errors)? The size is the same on each of these. OR-- maybe the Release Date: 2008-07-10 is a typo and NO errors exist other than that. [alert admin]

Firefox 2.0.0.13 (Mac OS X)

Incompatible with Apple Store?

When I print a pdf document (from the Apple Store) of the items in configuring a Mac Pro, Firefox prints to the pdf only the first and last pages of five pages (all of which Safari prints). No option is in the printer options to change this. Print All Pages is already selected by default. This is NOT acceptable. I have tried selecting Print pages 1 to 5. I have tried selecting ALL in the site prior to printing. Nothing helps. Safari does not have this problem and prints all five pages. I have changed my printer from HP to Epson (which has NO Firefox printer option), and still only 2 pages print. My OS is 10.3.9, so I would like to know whether users of Leopard (the OS in the new Mac Pro) are experiencing the same problem. Firefox 2.0.0.13 still has the window jumping to another location when dragging it when the mouse button is released. In all previous versions of Firefox, dragging a window would cause the window to jump; now it seems to happen only if a file is being downloaded at the same time. Also, I still see that selecting a window in the background causes a jump from the previous tab to a different tabbed window as the window becomes the active window. This happens with less than five tabs in the window. Dragging a window by the title bar also can make the list of bookmarks in the toolbar under the mouse pointer act as though the toolbar item was selected, This also happens (only?) while a file is being downloaded. Apple Security Update 2008-002 (Mac OS X)

Commentary is meaningless

In view of the fact that this is 2008, having commentary that is from 2005 and 2006 is REALLY without merit. It accomplishes NOTHING! Apple's web site indicated this Security Update 2008-002 is for OS X 10.4.11. Why does this article and the VT list of updates say it is for Server 10.4.10? Wasn't that updated to 10.4.11 due to problems in10.4.10? [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Upgrade price?

This is the SAME price I saw when I (just) updated my Toast from 7.1.2 to 7.1.3, except that it was for Toast 8. As to the comment that NO Mac comes with a Blu-Ray burner, since the HD DVD is on its way out and since Apple will be using / adopting this DVD format, I would believe the Toast 9 would be a requirement when customers buy the newer Apple products that most certainly will include Blu-Ray. MacTheRipper 2.6.6 (Mac OS X)

What's the problem?

Since I am in the process of backing up and cataloging my movies, I decided I would try MTR because someone has severely scratched several of my previously-viewed DVDs. So I downloaded the latest version WITH NO DIFFICULTY - so What's the problem? However, I find that the version I just downloaded is NO different from the version I already have - from 2005! It has not been updated since 3 years ago - so What's the problem? If the beta version (3) is being readied for Leopard, one would think the developer (what a name!) would state that, without having to enter a password to get to the forum - so What's the problem? It worked perfectly on my 700MHz iMac with 768 MB of RAM. And I used Toast 7.1.2 to burn the DVD. [alert admin]

Cheap MP3 Player 0.00001 (Mac OS X)

There's one born every minute

Anything for free! HAH! Version 1/100,000! Word up! No comment as to what type of device this might be functional. Since my USB flash drives don't have phone jacks, why would I need it? Doesn't my computer have iTunes that suffices to play music? My iPods can also play music. Are the C|Net people checking to see who actually reads VT? [alert admin]

Forget it!

Your recommended app does not exist anymore (except on computers that downloaded it previously)-- "Hi, This app has been abandoned by the developer. It's been removed from the versiontracker.com search engine, as a result." btw-- Harmonic IS free.

You want MONEY for this?

In Safari, did the Activity thing with a YouTube video. It was downloaded automatically, but QuickTime Player could not open it. If I try to open it in Firefox, I am asked whether I want to save it-- it's already saved on my hard drive-- but it doesn't open it. What now?

Where IS it?

And just as inexplicably, it downloaded from the VT site-- but at the pace of a snail traveling through wet, thick glue. The download speed varied between 10.3 and 24.8 kb/sec while I watched its progress, and then I went elsewhere to do some other work. It still had a couple of minutes remaining when I returned, maybe 30 minutes later. Both the HyperNextStudioFull and the HyperNextPlayer were accessible. Too much traffic earlier in the…

boring

amp re: Tennessee Traffic Cameras 1.1 (Mac OS X) boring Very boring. Life in Aussie-land must suck. Obviously you have not had to worry about being stuck in an hour-long traffic jam to get 5 km up the highway. Save your sarcasm for someone who might think it merits more than a passing "S@#T!" And try to be a bit more tolerant of those who make mistakes... or begin writing your own apps.

Very good product

Thanks to both of you for your comments. It seems the version of Photoshop which came with the Master Collection is Photoshop Extended; the update (at www.adobe.com/downloads) is for Photoshop CS3, not Photoshop CS3 Extended. Does anyone know whether these changes (listed at VT) are already incorporated in Photoshop CS3 Extended?

Too bad.

Divide POUNDS by 2.2 to get KG (or multiply by 0.453.6 if division is a problem for you); multiply INCHES by 2.54 to convert to CM. Is THAT too difficult? Now, you have to cut a board (eg, a 2-by-4 pine stud) into 5 equal lengths. It is 8 ft. long What is the length of each piece if the saw blade width is neglible? Your typical measuring tape is graduated in eighths, sixteenths and thirty-secondths of an…

About the new pricing...

1. Radio Shack has sold the lamp and appliance modules for $11-$15 each. The wireless controller (16 items) was about $50. Now you want to charge $89.95 for version 1.8.2 or $200 for version 2? And you worry about support overhead? You could hire more people to answer the phones and talk through the problems anyone might have if you sold your software for half the price - and subsequently increased the units sold by…

Why ?

The point to having access to an encyclopedia is that it is much more likely that the FACTS have been checked and verified that are printed in the documents. It saves the user from having to search through trivial references to the supposed subject that may/often have little relation to the subject being researched. One of the most difficult tasks for students to understand is which links to pursue when researching a topic.
