AudialHub 1.0 (Mac OS X)

a good solid 1.0 product

as a VisualHub user, i was happy to see that AudialHub has the same clean interface and stability as its video-based sibling. worked like a champ. the discount for VisualHub users is a nice gesture too! liked it. bought it. it's the batch converter i've been waiting for. if this application receives the same attention to updates and improvements as the other Techspansion products, it's going to come out at the top of the shareware audio converter category. CosmoPod 2.4 (Mac OS X)

awesome little app.

i have a wealth of video conversion tools on my Mac, but CosmoPod is the one i use most often as an easy way to grab and convert web video if it's going straight into iTunes. minimal configuration needed, it just works. this is the software i recommend to friends and family who don't have the technical knowledge to tweak video conversion settings. it's also well-priced for what it does. i have not had any of the crashes or issues others have reported here. SWF & FLV Player 3.7.15.6198 (Mac OS X)

hooray for auto-update!

with all the small updates they come out with on this product, an auto-update feature is appreciated and i'm glad they finally put it in. in response to the "nagware" comment...i believe it's only nagware when you play .flv files. it should not be nagging when playing back .swf files that don't contain FLV video. Mail Watch 3.3 (Mac OS X)

Development appears to have ceased...

The developer seems to have abandoned this software...this program hasn't been updated since 2005 and doesn't seem to respond to support emails. While it works wonderfully with my PowerPC G5 in Mac OS X 10.4, I can't say the same for its performance on my Intel iMac as it is not a universal application. There I get frequent hangs, long waits and beachballs when opening the menu, and generally poor performance. Which is a pity, because it is still probably one of the better email notifiers out there, especially as it doesn't require Mail to be open. Too bad Google Notifier only works for GMail as it would be a worthy successor to this app. Regrettably I cannot recommend Mail Watch to anyone with Mac OS X 10.5 or an Intel-based Mac. MovieChapterizer 2.5 (Mac OS X)

since "Demo" isn't very descriptive...

from the site: "You can download and try MovieChapterizer for free, and add a small number of chapters. To use it to add up to 100 chapters you can also purchase a license code for $15 from our store page or by clicking the Buy Now button on this page." [alert admin]

DockChanger 1.2 (Mac OS X)

FYI no longer technically "freeware"...

the first 10 changes are free. then the software is $10. and a 41 MB download? that's a little excessive.... [alert admin]

Jax 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

crashes may be conflict with iVisualize

i had the same problems...Jax would crash iTunes completely whenever i tried selecting it. so i did a little more research and discovered that it has the same technology as iVisualize built in...and i already had iVisualize installed in my Visualizers folder. once i took out the standalone copy of iVisualize, Jax worked fine. and i imported my iVisualize add-ons into Jax, so i still have them. Snapz Pro X 2.1.0 (Mac OS X)

better late than never....

finally, a universal binary at 2.1.0. feels nice and zippy on my Intel iMac. i've always liked Snapz Pro X for capturing both still images and video. when my friend overseas asks me a Mac question, i can send her a movie file showing her instead of just trying to explain. she's blown away by the way it turns out. Coda 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

tried it. liked it. bought it.

i use BBEdit for creating my websites most of the time. and while Coda doesn't have the text-processing power or HTML extensions that BBEdit has, i still found it to be a very nice program. with the 1.0.1 update i can actually preview my PHP pages within the app. yes, it uses Safari to display its preview pages, but there's a menu option to preview the page in an external browser of your choosing. i would like to see this done better, though. still...it's a 1.x application. and it's a fabulous start. they made some great changes with the 1.0.1 update and i expect many more to come, as they've had tons of good feedback from users. if you're not an ultra-power-user and you don't need all this prefab stuff that Dreamweaver offers, this is still well worth the money. haven't regretted my purchase. MutantMaker 1.1 (Mac OS X)

oooookay....

"MutantMaker designs oligonucleotides for Site Directed Mutagenesis that allow researchers to screen candidate mutants by restriction digest rather than costly sequencing."

i'm convinced this program is great...for anyone who understands a word of the above description. me, i haven't a clue. :D

Not Random-->RandomExtra?

Perhaps use the free "RandomExtra" screen saver? http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16845

phoning home, because you allow it?

"I read the software is now phoning home. Spyware?!"

you mean checking for updates? which can be disabled by unchecking "Automatically check for updates" in the Help menu.

or do you mean registering/checking registration over the internet, like many applications do (such as those from Adobe)?

Spyware? or protecting their business?

How about A Better Version-number Rename! :-)

version 8's going to be a complete overhaul of the back-end, and will be a paid upgrade. so the version numbering is probably due to the quantity of little fixes he's been making to version 7.

had similar problems too...i couldn't even use yFlicks! but with the 3.0 update they seem to have fixed many of the "beachball" issues.

This thing wrecked my LCD!!

shouldn't your LCD go into 'sleep mode' after a certain time? this would be set in System Preferences, under Energy Saver. unless this screen saver prevented sleep mode somehow, i would not be so quick to blame it for burn-in on your monitor. if i left any screensaver running with static images over the course of a few days, there would be a little ghosting on my LCD too.

Fantastic!

it's easy: go to "Date & Time" in System Preferences, click on the Clock tab and uncheck "Show the date and time". done.

Only one picture allowed...disappointing, unusable for me

Michael: besides the positive reviews here, your response to what was a crappy review may have just convinced me to switch from your competitor's program. i don't need multiple photos...just a cookbook app that's being actively developed and supported.

Questionable Choices

i guess if you point it at your entire iTunes library, that's what you're going to get. it's looking at BPMs, not consulting a huge database of artists and music styles. perhaps creating a playlist of similar styles first is in order, and telling Tangerine! to select from that playlist using the rules. no program is going to get it right without a little assist from the user.

Re: does not work

ask Intuit to fix/improve their Quicken product? that's hilarious! funniest thing i've read all day! you know, even if they DID fix it, they'll call it Quicken 2007v2 and charge everyone $60 for the upgrade...
