TextExpander 2.6.1 (Mac OS X)
I was a longtime user of TypeIt4Me, the first Mac app that did this sort of thing. TypeIt4Me is really the granddaddy of these sorts of apps, but unfortunately, like a grandaddy it has sort of gotten a little slow and outdated. I switched to TextExpander because of expansion issues with TypeIt4Me, issues that I brought to the developers attention and he could not fix. Basically it couldn't keep up with me when I was typing fast and would expand words in the wrong place. I have only used TextExpander for a week, but I have not once had the same issue. Also, I have found the user interface more intuitive. TypeIt4Me is still a great product, so it is worth checking out if you are in the market for this kind of utility, but for now I have happily made the switch and would recommend TextExpander. Speed Download 5.0 (Mac OS X)
SD 5 is a superb application. I only use the basic features, and SD 5 has made it easier for users like me to not get confused by the advanced features. My main need is to schedule downloads to occur in the middle of the night, when my satellite ISP does not enforce a download limit, which large downloads inevitably exceed. SD has not failed me once. I get all the downloads I need queued up, then go to bed. In the morning everything is there, downloaded, sorted, and filed and ready to go. It has saved me countless sleepless nights doing all this manually. Support is good. I had one issue once, and they handled it promptly via email. Turned out the problem was not with SD but another app. I give 5 stars on all except ease of use because with all the advanced features it can get a little confusing. I like applications with depth, because when you need it it is there, and SD5 has improved on simplicity since SD 4, but it could still go a bit further in making some of the basic tasks a little more obvious to a first time user. Other than that, highly highly recommended. [alert admin]

1Passwd 2.1.3791 (Mac OS X)
My previous review of 4 stars is now up to 5 -- they just released v2.2 with Printing AND Palm support, both are somewhat primitive, but useable and will surely only get better... this app just keeps getting better. [alert admin]

1Passwd 2.1.3791 (Mac OS X)
I have used this app for several weeks. It is very well thought out and one of the most useful apps I have (and I have quite a lot!). A password manager is not the most glamorous app to use, but when you have a good one, like this one, it transforms your use of the internet and the zillions of passwords one has to keep track of. The one feature that I find most useful in it: The ability to store multiple sets of log-in names and passwords for the same site. This is a HUGE feature. For instance, I manage two businesses that have accounts at the same banks and credit card companies. I can now easily log-in under the correct business with just a click, or keypress. I also don't have to remember the log-in names and passwords, 1Passwd does that for me. Because of this one feature I have now set up online banking access to many accounts that I was inadvertantly avoiding due to the whole hassle of managing all those passwords. Also, I changed all my OK passwords, to really good cryptic, secure ones, because I don't have to type these in, or even remember them. So, not only is my access faster, but it is more secure. I do not have the time to go into more detail about this app, but suffice it to say, it is very well implemented and easily beats the built-in OS X keychain in it's usefulness. If you do any amount of online banking or shopping, this will make your life much easier. Note: Expect a slight learning curve and set-up time to get things running the way you want, but it's worth it. Also, only 4 stars as a few features are just not there yet: namely ways to get the data out of 1Passwd. It has a growing number of export options, but lacks even a rudimentary ability to print. The developers are very responsive though, and I know improvements to this are coming soon. When it gets there, 5 stars from me. [alert admin]
