Psst 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)

works fine…

…on MacBook Air & gives finer control than Startup Sound PrefPane (which I still use & like on G4 OS X.5.2) - just quit the user interface after setting the sound level, and the daemon is using only about 5.7 MB real memory (907 MB swap space)… [alert admin]

Wraparound 1.3.1L (Mac OS X)

great app

used it for years on several OS-Xs without problem - a must-have for laptops (will now try it on 10.5.1, but hoping for a developer confirmation it works or'll be updated...) [alert admin]

Namely 2.5.1 (Mac OS X)

vs. Spotlight on Loep.

Leoqp. has much improved the speed of Spotl., but Namely finds ONLY apps, so is fast, and LEARNS, so is that much faster for commonly used apps. Butler is very good, but doesn't always find what I want - Namely always does. [alert admin]

Mail Act-On 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)

"Temp Fix" Not Working

prefaced the Term commands below with "sudo" and restarted - only stopped Mail from disabling the MAO (and MailTag) bundles, but neither actually functioned [alert admin]

DoubleCommand 1.6.6b1 (Mac OS X)

more on clean Leopard...

after much testing, the Restart problem only happens after starting with the D_C_ folder in StartupItems; removing the D_C_ folder (and the PrefPane) & restarting solve the problem; the upside is that the trackpad corner & scroll settings seem to stay in RAM & function; the downside is that forward-delete and enter=opt do >not< work any more... DoubleCommand 1.6.6b1 (Mac OS X)

on clean Leopard install...

it seemed to cause no problems, yet, maybe unrelated, but the hard drive never stops after shutting down the system (screen off & system otherwise appears off) - have to press Power til drive stops, then on restart system message says OS crashed - Crash Report widow lists DoubleCommand and Apple USB Hub as last 2 operating progs... MUST HAVE FORWARD DELETE & "Enter"="Opt"! [alert admin]

A Little Quirky

They must be using the Pickthall version - Pickthall is just one of several English translations; he did it in the late 1800s or early-early 1900s, so it sounds outdated.

Changed, but not at an end...

To change the login "panel" in X.3 that Visage used to be able to do in X.2, modify CoreServices/SecurityAgent.app/Contents/Resources/applelogo.tif, but you have to ensure that the file is as identical as possible - Pathfinder (via Psuedo) can do this part - User: root Group: wheel permissions: -rw-r--r-- (644) NO creator or type Graphic Converter can do this part - NO data fork use same pixel size and color palette Another location, CoreServices/SecurityAgentPlugins/loginwindow.bundle/Contents/Resources/, has the same resources, but changing them seems to have…
