DV Backup 1.4.4 (Mac OS X)
This application was a great idea years ago. Now with doudble-sided DVDs and all, this makes no sense anymore either from a cost/benefit ration point of view, nor from a technical point of view. Remember, a backup program isn't any kind of application. It has to be 100% reliable for that day when you'll need it... Even for free, this application has too many limitations and risks associated with it... [alert admin]

Tunatic 1.0.1b (Mac OS X)
I'm impressed. Only complicated stuff, like obscure techno hits, mixed together with other songs will make it fail. Other than that, for classic rock and even old French songs, it figured it 9 out of 10 times !!! [alert admin]

Google Earth 5.0.11733.9347 (Mac OS X)
There are many things missing or that could be improved, like the flight sim mode. But it's a gorgeous application for free nonetheless. [alert admin]

FileMaker Pro 10.0.1 (Mac OS X)
In the documentation, it says that FM now opens mySQL and other external sources databases as if they were FileMaker database. Don't be misled. You still can't just go in the open menu and select a mySQL database. You'd think that after 10 versions, Filemaker would figure that people love mySQL and need to integrate with their FM solutions... Not so. To be sure the solution involves dealing with OSX abysmal and unstable ODBC manager, or buying a third party solution from Actual technologies... I can't wait to see that... But all I know is that all this braging about mySQL compatibilty in Filemaker ads is just chit-chat, like that of a politician or such... It translates in "you and me speak" to "someday, maybe... if... then... else..." [alert admin]

Fallacy Tutorial 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
This application falls directly into the "fascinating" category. There's no whizbang, no flashes, just text and very intersting text indeed. I'm only wondering why this isn't a website instead of a desktop application. And I can't wait to get it in French! Overall, much fun software with great content. [alert admin]

Skype 2.8.0.324 (Mac OS X)
Just installed the latest upgrade and trashed my previous version. The new version crashes on launch. What to do? Avoid DL this version and wait for a fix. [alert admin]

WebCam2FTP 1.0a2 (Mac OS X)
It's true that once you edit the path properly it starts to work. But I got two big bugs with this app: - The preview isn't showing unless the path is right. This is confusing since the cam works just fine and the preview should reflect the state of the camera, not that of the uploader. - Once you get it going, there is no way I could access the prefs anymore. It becomes a disabled menu item. Prefs should be accesible at all times, why disable it anyway? I tried quitting but on open, It starts to broadcast right away and still doesn't give me access to the Prefs... It's not enough to stitch modules you can get elsewhere together. A programmer has to make a working application of it all and ideally, follow at least minimaly, Apple's guidelines for the interface. Plus, really for so little parameters, is it really worth using the Prefs at all? All these controls could fit snuggly around the preview window or in a palette. This would require a few less clicks, plus would be more in view for the newbies. Also, maybe just a little Assistant, or at least help window showing up the first time would be nice. I figured out how to make it work by looking at the reviews and comments of VersionTracker... For free it's hard to beat, but I can't wait for th upgrade, so I can go into the prefs and change my settings :) [alert admin]

PowerSaveUPS 1.309 (Mac OS X)
This application can't access some of the great features that are available on the APC backup equipment I have. Plus since when do we have to pay for software that's meant to be used with hardware? It's like buying a digital camera, but finding that you have to pay to get the software to transfer the data to your computer (or to upgrade that software). APC equipment is already expensive enough (but reliable), it wouldn't bankrupt them to include the software to make it work and upgrades of said software... [alert admin]

DiskWarrior 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)
I'm often unhappy by the quality of the software that's out there but so far, DW lives up to its promises. There were a few glitches when new intel macs came on the market. But the latest version did work well in all recoveries I attempted so far, save for one case, when the drive was dead and it needed clean room work. If I had to leave on a desrt island with only ony disk (and my computer), that would the one... [alert admin]

Use with much caution, I earn my living cleaning after people who instal these kind of applications... that and Onyx... Actually, the problems isn't so much when you install a brand new version on a stable OS, as when OSX is upgraded and settings that could be messed with in previous versions shouldn't have been played with for the upgrade to work... use with much much caution... and of course, only after a serious backup or two... I just upgraded (for free) all the latest from emcinsignia website, in the support section and now my backup system is working pretty much as it should. And since it's a very complicated application, it's also normal that there are a few kinks left here and there, although not necessarily acceptable for such a "mission critical application" but I can live with that. Also I tried Time Machine. It also has its own bugs and if…

I have defended Retrospect for many years even though the product kept getting worse and worse and more of a worry to maintain than the help it brings... Now I'm having problems with all computers upgraded to 10.5 that used to work well before. I upgraded to the latest of Retrospect application, drivers etc..., checked and unchecked various prefs, my network, my cabling. The only thing I didn't do was try standing upside down. So franlky, all…

Sure and while you're at it, don't use the brakes on your car. They seem to be there to do the braking, but really, only the manual park lever works... What a way to encourage/force proper software development... What a way to encourage people to avoid software piracy by making them pay more than their fair share of money, so they can end-up with crappy applications and be insulted in help forums.
