Apple Safari 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)

CAN Specify Download Link

One reader claimed that you couldn't specify a download location for download links. This is simply incorrect. To download a link to specific target, simply Control-Click or Right-Click on the link, bringing up the Contextual Menu. Then press Option. This will change the menu item "Download Linked File" to "Download Linked File As.." and when selected will open a dialog allowing you to navigate to your target save location. I have experienced some stability problems with Safari 2. I still enjoy using this browser more than any other. [alert admin]

iBeat 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Not a very sophisticated app, metronome is out of time, no slave mode

MickMadSoft, dude-the metronome is off - the timing is not tight - if a person's CPU clock cycles alternate (and they can) then your software should compensate, just like the clicks in GarageBand, Logic, ProTools, Live, Reason and every other host musicians apps. Maybe a Slave to Host mode would help to straighten this out. Also, the tuner generates a tone that doesn't harmonically resonate with most stringed instruments, and that is why people are saying it sounds weird. When you tune you need pitch usually at 440 with no warble or variations. The idea of a portable tuner/metronome is old-hat, and there are several already out there. Also, if you are going to use the 'i' moniker it presumes that this little app will function inside Apple's iLife suite, namely Garageband. Since your app has no slave function it does not fit the bill, and probably ought to be renamed or re-written to work with GB (remember that GB already has a tight metronome and awesome tuner, so if you do re-work your app, you will have to improve on Apple's work) I think this is a beginner's stab at using REALBasic, and he got excited and posted it here. Perhaps when your programming skills are a little more refined, and you can handle some criticisms without freaking out, you will be ready to create a useful musician's tool. Until then, keep at it and try again. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 4.0.3 (Mac OS X)

TTP4 Good for Diagnostics- not for Repair

Been using TTP for over 2 years now, including earilier versions on OS 9 Mac, and feel this app is great for finding problems w/hardware, but NOT for fixing them. If I want to repair or defrag a drive I don't use ANY of TTP's Optimize tools - they are potentially harmful and have done in several of my video projects in the past. So I stick to DiskWarrir or iDefrag and they work great. Every serious Mac user should have a couple tools on their belt for problem solving, TTP4 is one of them, but it is only a Swiss Army Knife, not a dedicated tool for solving serious problems. Tell you what, though - nothing will save you more headache and trouble than an early warning that something is going wrong w/you Mac or it's HD's. Saved me on 2 occasions! Got a S.M.A.R.T. warning email regarding a failing external HD, backed up my data, erased the drive, sent it to Lacie and sure 'nuff there was a problem and they replaced my drive. Painless and costless. I reccomend this software and that it be used in tandem w/DiskWarrior and a decent Optimization Utility. [alert admin]

AudioFinder 3.4 (Mac OS X)

Don't run a default scan with each upgrade!

morganv mentioned that he had to sit through a default scan with each upgrade of AudioFinder. To avoid this simply copy the file AudioFinder>Default San.memory (or any/all of your saved scans) to the new AudioFinder folder. That's it! When you boot AudioFInder your library will be there just like before. If you change locations for your audio assests you will have to scan the drive, but you can use your existing scan to speed this up - AudioFinder will compare the contents of your scan against the Directory of the souce and mirror those files that have changed instead of re-scanning the whole drive. This takes considerably less time. Of course, if you have tossed your scan documents you will have to scan from scratch but remeber to name and save them for future upgrades! lushbudget [alert admin]

AudioFinder 3.4 (Mac OS X)

An EXCELLENT piece of shareware for the pro or hobbyist!

When I first tried A.F. (2.x) I thought that $50 was too much for a shareware app - but I paid it because I use this program all the time! The updates keep moving this app in the right direction and each new version provides better stability, faster interface, and more useful features. My personal favorite (and most used) is creating my own soundbanks for use in my projects. I have roughly 250Gb of audio assets on my Mac, and A.F. keeps it all organized and quickly found for me. Thanks and keep up the good work! lushbudget - singer/songwriter PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0Ghz - 2Gb RAM - 2 17" Studio Displays - Pro Tools LE 6.4/Cubase SX/Live 3/Reason 2.5 and AudioFinder 3.9! BloodRayne 1.0.1b (Mac OS X)

Be Warned AppleStore Shoppers!

It's one thing to upgrade to a new OS and find some compatability issues with your existing software - this is to be expected. It's another thing altogether when you buy a new game off the floor at the AppleStore - surrounded by Panther-running Macs - only to get it home to find that it won't run in the latest OS. I specifically asked the "Genius" at the AppleStore if BloodRayne would run on TiBook (867Mhz running 10.3.2) and he told me that it would! I also had the same bogus info from another so-called "Genius" regarding IK Multi-Media's Amplitube Live (which also won't run in 10.3) Buyers Beware! The employees at some Apple Store's are sub-par and can potentially give yoiu bad info. Do the research yoiurself! If you're savvy enough a user to be reading these posts, then you probably know how to suss out system requirements - but you are WAY too over-qualified to work at an AppleStore! Peace to All :+ lushbudget [alert admin]

can't specify download link

THIS is not true! You can still designate a download target!! All you have to do is Right Click or Control click on the download link, then press OPTION, which will change the Contextual Menu to read "Download Linked File As..." instead of "Download Liniked File" Apple has NOT removed any functionality! And that is the truth!

missing functionality - specify download link

You can still download where you want to. Simply hover over the download link, Control-Click or Right Click then hold down the Option button. The contextual menu will change from reading Download Linked File to Download Linked File As... IF you select this option, a dialog opens for you to navigate to your target folder. And thats the truth! lushbudget

What is the GarageBand minimum requirement?

You cannot buy GarageBand 2 by itself, it is only sold as a component of iLife 05. Of course, the $79 price is well worth GB alone, but you will also get iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie HD, and the latest iTunes 4.7 for your Mac. The system requirements for GB are as follows: A Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3 (400MHz or faster), G4, or G5 processor {{{ 600MHz G3 or faster for GarageBand }}} 733MHz…

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?

well, i think because some displays are warranted if a finite number of pixels (usually between 3-5) become stuck or dead. Formac has a zero tolerance policy on their displays, and Apple tolerates 5 spaced out or 3 in a row. If I can show for a fact that I have x number of pixels stuck or dead, maybe I can convince them that I deserve a replacement display. Other than this…

Be Warned AppleStore Shoppers!

Well then I believe that "I don't know, haven't tried it myself," is an appropriate answer. No harm in telling the truth.

All is not lost....1 button mouse

The alternative to 'right clicking' on a one button Mac system is to hold down the <CTRL> key while clicking the mouse. This will open the Contextual Menu associated with the item your cursor is hovering over. From this menu you will find the "..package contents," menu option.

GOOD LIITLE APP

Started using this App around 3.0 and been updating and AudioFinding since! Incredibly useful if you have tons of sounds in lots of different volumes. Sometimes, when I'm mobile, I'll use AudioFinder to put together a folder of needed audio on my system drive and then return it to the source when I get home - LOVE the Sample Extractor (Reason User!) THANKS For this great app!
