Meditation Timer Widget 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Simple and functional

The peaceful bell begins and ends the "meditation"... which I like, even though I'm not using this for meditation, per se. I've been using it to time "preview" sessions as I learn to photoread. But similarly, a meditative internal state is helpful and timed sessions help to keep one "on track". This little widget works as it should and is handy... It could also be used for timing an egg or used as a reminder for any purpose. For some purposes, it might be nice to have a "ring bell at x-o'clock" function. But that isn't the purpose of this widget, so I'll give it 5 stars. It is intuitive and as easy to use as any widget should be.

Thank you for sharing this with the Mac-using community.

DivX for Mac 6.5 (Mac OS X)

Won't do anything without crashing

I was looking forward to giving this a test... but I can't even open a file without the app immediately crashing. And sometimes I didn't even get that far. After a half-dozen failed attempts to yield any better result, the app was moved to the trash. No need for wastes of time like this. [alert admin]

Too dumb to use a 'puter... deleted.

Note, too, that you can always select a file, use "Command-I" to show info and then expand the "Open with:" option to select the application to open that file... After changing the default app, you can, if you like, click on the button that says "use to open all files like this". I used to do that with PDF files (using just Acrobat Reader) till Preview improved enough to be a typically-better, Spotlight-integrated alternative... there's…

(I think you missed something?)

Didn't your new Powerbook come with Garage Band? I think you can use that for simple audio recording (and more!)... a lot of podcasts are done on it. But then, sometimes the people in tech support can be pretty clueless, can't they? Audio Hijack Pro is another piece of shareware (a bit pricier than this freeware; I don't remember the exact pricetag now) that can be good if you want to record from line-in or…

THIS APP SLAYS

You weren't looking all that hard then, I guess? Because Audio Hijack Pro has been out for years and not only allows recording from standard audio inputs to almost whatever audio format (with lots of customization available for MP3/AAC or whatever recording). It also has plug-in support to fine-tune the sound, and you can mix sound from other applications and/or just record the sound from any other application. I started using it at least 2…
