avast! antivirus 2.74 (Mac OS X)

Go to the developer's page for a free home version

Like another user, I refuse to pay the Norton extortion price. Gee, they give away the Window's version at CompUSA. Never the Mac version. And then when it expires, after not having had anything to do for a year, they expect you to pay $50 more. I'll try it and report back if anything bad happens. [alert admin]

Recherche 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Interesting idea, but buggy

A real web browser appears in the top window and a place to take notes below it. Web pages are organized into investigations. As far as I can tell, the browser works on a variety of pages and it's fairly fast. What source code did the author use? I can see that this would be useful to me (a teacher) but it quit on me twice; it won't allow me to name new investigations; and I can't add content to the new investigations. I'll be keeping my eye on it, but it needs some tweaking. [alert admin]

Fluid 0.4 (Mac OS X)

Would love to try but ...

Is there a version for older machines? Not all of us have been able to update to Intel machines and OSX 10.5. [alert admin]

Hmm. I don't see any difference at first glance, except that my dock is ugly again. [alert admin]

No problems here

I used the update feature from the Word menu bar. Large file, but it downloaded and installed with no problems. I don't see any difference in performance or features. G4 processor, system 10.4.8. [alert admin]

Planbook 0.2 (Mac OS X)

Simple and useful

I have been looking for a way to organize my collections of resources. I even bought FileMake Pro to see if I could do it that way. This is better than anything I have seen so far. It's much easier to use than the plan book that came with my textbook (but, of course, I have to manually find the resources). It's a great start. IThanks! [alert admin]

transparent - me too

I don't see much difference in 10.4.11. I miss Transparent Dock, too. The gray is truly ugly ...

Works with new update

I'm confused. You got it to work with 10.4.10? How?

104.9.9/10.4.10?

No, it doesn't. You have to decide if you want a nice dock or a system update. The developer usually follows a system update with an update of his (?) own in a couple of weeks. Makes you appreciate the fine details in life. I agree that Apple ought to buy out the developer and include it in the system preferences.

Broke Transparent Dock

And uninstalling Safari does not make the dock go back. Is it really necessary to replace the old version? Can't we have them both?

Draconian pricing policy

There is no FREE upgrade window. It costs $30. Here is the response to my complaint to FM (at least they got back to me with 12 hours): We have an "Upgrade Window Offer" specifically for customers such as yourself, who have recently purchased FileMaker Pro 8. For every license (single-user and/or 5-Packs) of FileMaker Pro 8 purchased between June 10, 2006 and July 25, 2006, you are eligible to receive an upgrade of FileMaker Pro…

Not easy to use....unless you are already familiar wtih PHP

The average Mac user would have no need for a program like this; iCal works just fine. Or they could get a .Mac accout if they wanted to publish their calendar. I, also, don't know beans about php, but I do know html and unix. So for me, putting this on my school server (a linux box) is a piece of cake. It practically runs out of the box. I have a copy on my home…
