TechTool Pro 5.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Forget about this cheapskate company and its product !

They make every update as difficult as possible under the name of anti-piracy (what about other companies ?) and to sell their update bundle service. No user feedback ever change this stupid mentality. Techtool Pro does not performance its tasks very well either, file defragmenter does not defrag drive completely yet still produce perfect result in report (verified with other defragmenters). It also hogs too much of resources for system protection. Just back up your entire system with anyone of many backup software (or free Time Machine) in the market right now to external firewire drive or Time Capsule and remove TechTool Pro from your system for good. Restoration of whole system from backup has not been a problem so far. I regretted upgrade from version 4 to version 5. [alert admin]

SRS iWOW Premium for iTunes 3.1 (Mac OS X)

A piece of expensive crap

Whenever there is new release of iWOW, the new release will crash iTunes without any reason. This has happened almost consistently for all past releases. Don't blame me for the crash as all installation is done by installer instead of manually on latest iMac with fully updated Mac OS 10.5.7 installation. I have enough of this crap and it is removed from my system for good. The developers never seem to learn from past mistakes but thinking that they can fool users all the time. No more business for SRS Labs in future regardless of product. [alert admin]

Hear 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Legacy Problems Fixed

The latest version 1.0.2 has fixed problems of the two not responding messages in Activity Monitor' window as well as long standing problem of inconsistent volume level. It has also been proven to be working with Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil (www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil) in music streaming to remote speakers through AirPort Express. Airfoil is necessary to carry effect of Hear to remote speakers as Apple's AirTune feature of iTunes bypasses effects of many audio enhancement software. Thank you for the effort and prompt response. Support for Hear is definitely different from sluggish support for OSS-3D. I have to adjust review ratings in this post to compensate for the effort made by Hear support. Following is an Apple Script I have created as Automator's Workflow to activate streaming through Airfoil and AirPort Express. Please adjust settings of parameters according to your setup. When saved as application through Automator, it can be used in action setting of Alarm Clock Pro as morning alarm in bedroom installed with AirPort Express and remote speaker. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- on run {input, parameters} --Set target speaker and its volume (0-1) and iTunes playlist set newSpeaker to "SoundStick" set newVolume to 1 set newList to "Party Shuffle" tell application "Airfoil" --Create a new source and set it to iTunes set newSource to make new application source set application file of newSource to "/Applications/iTunes.app" --Set the source set current audio source to newSource --Set the speaker volumes set (volume of speaker newSpeaker) to newVolume --And finally start transmitting connect to speaker newSpeaker --Hide all windows of Airfoil set visible of every window to false end tell --iTunes have to wait for Airfoil to complete wireless setup delay 3 tell application "iTunes" play (some track of playlist newList) --Hide all windows of iTunes set visible of every window to false end tell return input end run ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [alert admin]

Hear 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Legacy Problems Inherited from OSS-3D

For those who have bought OSS-3D (ended with beta version) and waited painfully for working release of OSS-3D (never come anyway), they should know that Hear was developed by the same developer of OSS-3D. Thus there are still severe legacy problems in latest version (1.0.1) of Hear right now. In Leopard 10.5.3 with all Apple updates applied, after Hear installation and reboot, look at all processes through Activity Monitor utility. You should notice two entries have turned red: UserEventAgent (Not responding) coreaudiod (Not responding) More worrying fact is after Mac OS upgrade from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 and Hear upgrade from 1.0 to 1.0.1, Core Audio Daemon (coreaudiod) has started to turn red just like UserEventAgent which never happen before. Then there is long standing problem of inconsistent volume level unless Hear front-end is executed immediately after execution of every application. In other words, you have to keep executing Hear front-end repeatedly during login session to maintain consistent volume level throughout the session. This frustrating problem still exist today with Hear 1.0.1 just like previous OSS-3D beta versions. So please fully evaluate software before posting in this forum to avoid giving misleading information to those uninitiated software buyers. We are suppose to give review constructively with responsibility rather than posting solely for news purpose and based on personal emotion (I don't care how happy you are). [alert admin]

Speed Download 5.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Big lie to users for so long.

"Fixed: SD no longer prompts about a component update after each restart." In Leopard 10.5.2 with all Apple updates applied as of today, this bug has never been fixed from version 4.x to 5.x. I have been reporting this same bug to Yazsoft for so many times through so many update releases to no avail (don't bother to do it again). Either it is a lie or testing has never been done properly before these releases. In fact the problem is so simple to fix: - Go to Application/Speed Download 5 folder and access package content of application Speed Download application by right clicking on icon and select option Show Package Contents. - Copy and paste (so that file will not be moved) SpeedDownload Browser Plugin.plugin from folder Contents to final place in system folder /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. - Copy and paste folder SpeedDownload Enhancer from folder Contents to final place in system folder /Library/InputManagers. - Close all finder windows and restart Speed Download, no prompt for component update will ever appear again. The cause of problem is these system files never been updated even after update has been executed in Speed Download application (check on dates of files to confirm this fact). Yazsoft's developers do not even know how to copy files properly with administrator right in the application code !! [alert admin]

Cannot download the 5.0.5 updater

You will not find update download for latest version 5.0.5 in Micromat website, they want you to update within TechTool Pro application (under menu bar option TechTool Pro 5 > Check For Updates). That's why there were so many complains on update procedure as there is no mean to do direct download of disk image file.

Hear is simply OUTSTANDING!

No explanation should be required at all, just read the post to find any factual information and ways to verify certain features with your own installation. The extent of audio enhancement through software is always depend on quality of available audio hardware. Hearing is believing and no amount of words can help. I don't care what audiophiles have to say but how does it perform with my existing audio equipments. Like what I have emphasized…

Big lie to users for so long.

"If you were to install SD5 properly, you would see that this issue has been addressed" Do you mean I did not know how to drag icon from mounted disk image into Application folder and follow installation instructions on display properly ? This is my 13th Mac since 1987, Mac OS X and iMac hardware platform are of latest versions with all updates applied. I have even cleaned up previous installation completely before installing SD 5.0.2. "All…

Is that so ? Then why it is unusable at all.

"We have put in an immense number of hours to deliver what we think is a truly significant upgrade that all Mac OS X users will enjoy." After downloaded version 5 from yazsoft website, installation and successful registration in Mac OS 10.5.2, there is no way to update required system components and user's preferences. The installation was done twice with previous installation completely removed and cleaned up. No matter how many attempts and reboots, Speed Download…
