WinZip 11.2 Build 8094 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Zipeg does it better

>Unicode support to ensure international characters are displayed... >Zip file must be created and opened with a zip utility that >supports the Unicode extensions to the Zip file format such >as WinZip 11.2. It seems that after each release of Zipeg for the last couple of years WinZip is trying to release the same feature. Zipeg with Image Preview -> WinZip with Image Preview, Zipeg with international filenames -> WinZip with unicode filenames, Zipeg supports Rar with encrypted filenames -> WinZip tries (and fails) to do the same... The only problem is that WinZip is missing the point. 1. Zipeg uses EXIF (fast to read) to extract thumbnails. 2. Zipeg automagically determines the code page for the legacy .zip archives in addition to supporting Unicode filenames. 3. Zipeg is free software and does not try to lock you into any kind of un-archiving solution or nag you for money. 4. Zipeg works on both Mac OS X and Windows. I do respect and admire earlier WinZip. But when WinZip was sold to a corporation the whole spirit of development changed. Look less professional and much more MBA driven now... :-( [alert admin]

Zipeg 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Developer Note: Why bother? ZIP + JPEG = ZIPEG :-)

Dear Zipeg User, Here is some explanation of why yet another archive extractor? I basically developed it for myself at first because I liked WinZip on Windows and lacked ease of archive browsing when I switched to OS X. Though there are many other archivers I needed something that reflects my un-archiver usage pattern. I've noticed that I rarely create zip files myself but when friends send me photos from the last party I want to preview them before extracting all. All modern digital JPEG photographs contains tiny EXIF header with a thumbnail in it. Zipeg extracts and shows this thumbnail, and let me decide which files I really want to unzip. Frequently, when installing open source software, I usually unzip into the same directory first (namely e.g. /User/leo/tmp/<archive name>/) and than work from there. And in some occasions, I want to navigate inside the archive and simply drag and drop single file or image to desktop without unzipping all 100,000 files from my svn-tar-ball. I understand that in a way Zipeg is inferior to some of the Bigger Brothers - but I want to develop it further, add more formats and simple to use features. I would love to hear your comments, critique and suggestions for further development. I enjoyed making it for you. Hope you will find it useful. Enjoy. Leo Kuznetsov [alert admin]

I am the author and of course I like it.

Very useful but lacks one feature...

version 1.4 supports AES strong 256 bit encryption. Give it a try. Let me know via support at zipeg . com if it does not work for some reason.

Unzips PK v4.6 archives

>I wish it would let me drag a file out of the archive and onto the desktop or a folder. But it does! It just takes it few milliseconds to extract file in the background before you can actually drug it. If it still does not work for you please talk to me via support on zipeg website. I have newer releases that may help.

Wonderful! Makes zips that much more useful

Thank you for your comment. Did you try to switch to Metal look in Preferences? Should Metal be default for Macintosh?
