Fission 1.5.2 (Mac OS X)
Rogue Amoeba is a very fine company with good products.
I use Audio Hijack Pro and have for some time- it's a great little app for anything such as recording a friend of mine when she was on the radio to grabbing sound effects for my projects. I couldn't imagine not having it. I also had bought Fission, but for whatever reason I never used it, since I typically use either pro applications such as Logic or Ableton, or I'll use Audacity for speed cutting and exporting of files. But yesterday I started using Fission, and it works great, very stable and it is fast fast fast... it only does one or two things, but it does them very well and if you are like me and you need to edit the good parts out of big audio files then Fission is your go to application. I can't believe I haven't been using it all the time. Give Rogue Amoeba a shot! [alert admin]

Carbon Copy Cloner 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I used it to clone my Mac drive to an external Firewire drive, so as to be able to use the external drive's Tiger 10.4.10 Disk Utility to fix some problems that developed on my Mac drive. The version on my install disk was unsuccessful, apparently it is still at Tiger 10.4.01 and unable to fix a problem with 10.4.10. Or that is what was suggested to me on the Mac forums. It worked, thank God, and saved me some money that I didn't really have which I was thinking would have to go towards Disk Warrior. There's my background. Carbon Copy worked great, it cloned about 130 GB's with absolutely no problems in a little over 2 hours. I haven't yet tried the auto backup, but you can be sure I will, and I imagine it'll be great. I've gotta give this guy ten bucks. Try it! It works! [alert admin]

SoundSoap 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)
Some times, it works well, and other times it's worse than before. Here are some hints: 1) Make sure you have a second or two of pure noise for it to isolate what it's to remove. Otherwise, it takes a slice of everything in the peice. It actually does that anyway, to a degree. 2) Understand the program does not know any more than that. 3) You can add a little bit of "shine" with the enhancer knob on the right (I forget exactly what it's called) but too much is artificial. Do not expect under any circumstances to turn the noise remover knob up more than halfway, or it's going to sound artificial. It'll under the best of situations only do so much- I mainly use it to get rid of room noise, with only partial success. That being said, it's only $75 dollars. If it works for you once or twice, it's worth that. But don't believe the hype. I certainly don't regret having purchased it, and would consider the Pro version. [alert admin]
