Yep 1.7.6 (Mac OS X)
iTunes handles PDF files, and also supports multiple libraries, so you can have a separate libraries for PDFs and for music. Why buy this when iTunes organizes PDFs for free? [alert admin]

Adobe Flash Player 9.0.60.184 (Mac OS X)
Doesn't allow playback on some sites, reinstall 9.0.4.7 fixed it.
I installed 9.0.6.0.184 and repaired permissions, rebooted and found that even though the Adobe test page said it was installed correctly, streaming flash video from cnn.com wouldn't play at all. I used the uninstaller to remove v. 9.0.6.0 and then reinstalled 9.0.4.7 and playback was fixed on cnn.com. This is on a PPC Mini with 10.4.10. The uninstaller and old version are available here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ [alert admin]

JuhOS 1.9 (Mac OS 9)
I've used this quite a lot since I use older, unsupported Macs with OS X, and in the process of booting OS 9 & X, sometimes OS X symlink folders such as etc, var, dev, or files such as BootX or Mach get made visible somehow? Using JuhOS is a really quick and easy way to repair this, PLUS, it's a great invisibles browser. It's never failed, or crashed, or done anything other than worked perfectly. I believe it works in "Classic" also, but it'd be nice if there were a Carbon or even better, a Cocoa version for using in OS X without having to startup Classic. In OS 9 it's perfect. [alert admin]

BitTorrent 4.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Version 4.0.1 constantly crashes and panics for me, but version 3.4.2 was very solid. I suggest sticking with 3.4.2 for now until these problems are corrected. [alert admin]

StuffIt Expander 7.0.3 (Mac OS 9)
After upgrading from 5.5 to 7.03 there is no double-click opening. I've messed for hours, read all the FAQs and it's apparent that this is strictly a drag & drop app. that requires a desktop icon. Sucks compared to the total background interface of 5.5. Don't upgrade if yours works. [alert admin]

ATI RADEON ROM Update Oct 2004 (Mac OS X)
This Oct.2004 universal updater is barely changed from the Sept.2004 a month ago. It has two new ROMs: the 9200 v.124 and the 9000 v.136 (64MB ONLY). If you used the Sept.04 update for your Radeon, 7000, 8500, 9800, or 9800SE there's nothing new here. The 'easy install' loads your HD will all the current ROM Extenders for every version of Radeon, so 'custom' install is probably best. The ATI Displays Update (separate update in Sept.04) added some neat features such as the pivot. I'm glad ATI is supporting their older cards. That alone is worthy of an excellent feedback. Too bad that Mac cards are so expensive compared to the PC cards. Next step, universal ROMs that work with both Mac & PC? Nada. [alert admin]

Patch for Kensington & others with Stuttering Image ![]()

There is a Macam component patch that will fix the stuttering image problem associated with the Kensington VideoCam 67014, 67015, 67016, etc. and perhaps other brands. If you have the image stutter and jumping, replace the Macam.component that should be in your Library->Quicktime folder with the patched version available here: http://homepage.mac.com/lonsing/macam/ Note: this patched component is different than the "patched" Panther version of the Macam application & component available here. You use the Macam application from here (or any other app. such as Videoviewer, etc.), but replace only the macam.component with from the address above, which is what actually enables the camera (without stutter). Apple Mac OS X 10.2.8 build 6R73 (Mac OS X)
I had horrible problems. System non-bootable after Software Update. Applications esp. Safari v85.5 Unexpectely Quits, with Total System freezes I've never seen in Jaguar before (had to pull plug). iBook battery life reads low. After long process of archive & reinstalling 10.2.6, everything is fine. I'd AVOID this update, and wait for 10.2.9. [alert admin]

You can find older v.1.2.x .dmg files here: http://ftp.easysw.com/pub/cups/ Since Apple bought CUPS recently they've evidently nixed OS X release versions, and they'll be incorporated into OS X updates from now on (probably months or years later than these used to be available).

It's nice to have a Sourceforge team developing an Open Source driver for the PL-2303, but, Prolific has been very good at supporting the Macintosh platform, with regular updates that include the recent "universal binary" released back around May 1st, (but with wrong 5-28 date). The real Prolific driver seems to work fine for 99% of users, and can be easily modified to work with virtually 100% of users of the PL-2303 chipset devices. The…
