FolderGlance 2.5.7 (Mac OS X)

Simply "A MUST HAVE APPLICATION ! " for every Mac user!

FolderGlance is so valuable and works so flawlessly, that every time I use it (which is all the time!) I wonder why the Mac Operating System doesn't come with it already built in. This easy to use and seemingly simple application supplements the way I work so profoundly that the Macintosh experience would be noticeably less speedy, less fluid and certainly less fun without it. Moving a file, copying it to some other location, or making an alias of it somewhere, takes significantly less thinking and less time then it did before using FolderGlance. But FolderGlance has lots of other handy and nifty directly related functions as well as customized controls that I continue to discover as the weeks go by. It is thoughtfully and intelligently designed by a developer who is responsive to your questions and your requests for support. I am so dependent on FolderGlance now only a couple of months after purchasing it, that at this point I simple don't know how I'd get along without it. Please don't let my enthusiasm for this product lead you to believe that I am either somehow connected with this product or personally know the developer. Neither is true. [alert admin]

BusyCal 1.0 (Mac OS X)

One more suggestion for an added feature

Just one additional suggestion that I have for an added feature that I forgot to include in my previous review of BusyCal. In the "New Event" and "New To Do" windows, include a mini-month so that you can simply click a date on the miniature month and thereby quickly enter a new date, instead of only being able to enter a date by typing it in as numeric text in the conventional slower and slightly more cumbersome way. BusyCal 1.0 (Mac OS X)

I found it at last! The best single user and small group calendar & scheduler for the Mac !!!

BusyCal is a winning calendar and scheduling program! It works flawlessly, and is very flexible, customizable and intelligently designed. BusyCal is a welcome solution if you have frustratingly given up on Now X, after literally years of waiting, only to find Now X in its current state to be undependable, buggy, confusingly cluttered, overproduced, unintuitive, albeit at least relatively attractive to look at. To various degrees I have sampled as many PIMS as I could find for the Mac and have discovered all of them to be simply lacking, faulty, or unacceptable in various and important ways, including such programs as: SOHO Organizer 8, Contactizer Pro, UCalendar X, Things, Daylite, and my previous old standby Now Up-to-Date. In fact Now Up-to-Date which was originally a masterfully designed program, and way ahead of its time, (initially developed by the creator of BusyCal), no longer fully works in Snow Leopard. Now Up-to-Date’s alarms and notifications are now inoperable, and according to one of their spokespersons, there are no plans to make it fully operable with current or future versions of the Mac System. Many have commented on how responsive both the developer and the business head of BusyCal are when it comes to suggestions and inquiries. However, there are still a few relatively minor extras as well as visual enhancements that I’d love to see added to BusyCal, but I suspect that because the two individuals who head this company have already proven themselves to be so responsive to suggestions, that we may see some or all of these features implemented in the near future. In no particular order, here are a few of my hoped for additions: (1) Improve the overall appearance of BusyCal by providing for the possibility of a variety of background color schemes or themes behind month, week and day views. (2) Create some shaded color difference between alternating lines of the To-Do list, such as currently exists in Now Up-to-date and Now X, which like the addition of background colors to months, weeks, and days, would serve to enormously enrich and liven up the overall look and feel of BusyCal. (3) Find a place to include a miniature set of adjacent monthly customizable calendars that you can choose to be always visible, and that display the current month and say the next two coming months, such that you can click on any date in these miniature monthly calendars, and you are shown that highlighted date in the current full calendar view. (4) In addition to a column style for the weekly view, also have the possibility of choosing a rectangular stacked block view of the days of one week, similar to what both Now Up-to-Dat and Now X offer. (5) For all To-Dos in addition to “Done” or “Completed” also have an additional option such as “In-process” or “Partially Done.” (6) Allow the “Find” and filter function to locate text in dated events and dated To-Dos that are not displayed in the current view. (7) Have the names of the days of the week customizable with regard to their size, color, boldness and font type, because currently the font size for the days of the week is too small and doesn’t stand out enough. Improvements such as these would turn BusyCal into an even better and more attractive calendar and scheduler than it is now, and for single users, families or small organizations and business groups, as I’ve said, BusyCal is already the very best that there is! And just to be clear, I personally don't know the developers of BusyCal nor am I affiliated with their business in any way. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1 (Mac OS X)

LET'S GET OUR MONEY BACK! Time for a class action suite against VersionTracker Pro

Please read all the consistent, broad and damning reviews of this product over this last year. The justifiable outrage is growing on the part of subscribers and I think it's time to take some action that goes beyond just our bitter complaints. The unresponsive behavior of this company goes further than their demonstrated gross neglect and apparent contempt for its paying customers and subscribers. It is unconscionable behavior that at long last we should all take collective action against. [alert admin]

Ultralingua Dictionaries 7.0.1 (Mac OS X)

This version doesn't work. No answer yet from support.

Version 7.0.1 doesn't work. After carefully following the step-by-step installation instructions, because its installation is not automated, and entering the code number password that was sent to me after registration, I attempted to use Ultralingua,. After a failed initial installation, and then a second seemingly successful installation, a window repeatedly popped up, each time I tried to use the product, telling me that I have to have Ultralingua running. Since I did have Ultralingua running, and had restarted it several times, even restarting my Mac did not prevent the same window message from popping up to tell me that I had to have Ultralingua running. Subsequent attempts to re-install newly downloaded copies of Ultralingua similarly failed to get the product to work. After writing to Ultralingua support a few days ago,I received a message from the individual who responded to my request for help, state that she was checking with the manager/developer to see why this new version wasn't working. It's now days later and I am still waiting for a response. [alert admin]

CopyPaste + yType 2.02 (Mac OS X)

Removing CopyPaste from my MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.2 stopped constant freezes!

Removing “CopyPaste” completely stopped System freezes of my MacBook Pro which first began when I installed OS 10.5.2 On various Apple Mac discussion forums of late, there have been countless cries for help (by one count over 7,000 of them! ) most notably from owners of MacBook Pros, who have recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.2, and are expressing alarm and outrage over the fact that their entire Mac Operating System continually freezes, seemingly spontaneously and for no apparent reason. (I'd say there's good reason to be upset if you just spent a few thousand dollars on your new Apple laptop and it keeps freezing, forcing you to continually execute a hard restart.) Well, I was one of those individuals who just installed Leopard (OS 10.5.2) onto my MacBook Pro and who within hours started suffering from the exact same kind of unpredictable and spontaneous freezes of the entire System that everyone else was describing. Of the literally hundreds of angry and frustrated complaints I read in looking for an answer to the problem, no one ever mentioned a suspicion that CopyPaste might be a culprit. I certainly wasn't suspicious myself, because CopyPaste seemed to work reasonably well, despite it's ever increasing display of annoying glitches on earlier versions of the Operating System over the last year or so. Between the unpredictable System freezes on OS 10.5.2, CopyPaste seemed to behave and perform reasonably well, as it always had. However, there was one telltale hint that there just might be at least a connection if not a direct link between my System freezes and CopyPaste's behavior. Although I could not discern any other clear associations with the freezes, I did note that about 20% of the freezes were immediately preceded by some action involving CopyPaste, including either trying to Paste or Copy an item using CopyPaste, or even the most seemingly innocent act of running my cursor over the CopyPast Pallet and having it instantly expand, as it normally does. Well, just on a growing hunch and suspicion, and nothing more, I completely removed CopyPaste and all of its associated files that I could find on my MacBook Pro, and trashed them. Bingo! The three to a dozen System freezes that I was having every single day for about a week, suddenly came to a complete end. No more freezes. Now of course I can't say how many of all the complaining MacBook Pro and other Mac laptop owners who who have been suffering System freezes after installing OS 10.5.2, even have CopyPaste installed on their Macs. But if any of them do have CopyPaste installed they might be relieved to know that its removal worked for at least one, up till that point, extremely frustrated individual. I suspect that there are likely other causes of this wide spread and infuriating freezing problem, but certainly for me, after almost a week free of freezes, CopyPaste seems to have been the sole culprit. P.S. Oddly, what took me so long and partially blinded me in trying to determine the cause of this problem is that I have been a very loyal user and registered supporter of CopyPaste almost from its inception, nearly 20 years ago! Linked Applications Launcher 1.9 (Mac OS X)

Effective product. Good support

This software (version 1.10) works simply and effectivley. For example, when I need my Windows Media Player to run videos more smoothly, I quickly turning off most or all of my applications with Linked Applications Launcher, and then when I'm finished I just as easily turn them all back on again. I trigger the process with a spare small application that I run in my Dock and use just as an off & on "trigger" to turn off and back on again the set of applications which always run when I startup my Mac. For more than 35 running applications it takes no more than 10 seconds to turn them all completely off, and pehaps 35 seconds to turn almost all of them back on. Also, the support provided by the developer of Linked Applications Launcher has been prompt, helpful and clear. I am hopeful that the developer will provide a meaningful discount for current registered users whenever any major upgrade is needed or offered. [alert admin]

FruitMenu's contextual menus…

is getting much better. But I'd love to see the following improvements: 1) Make the "Move to . . ." really match the meaning of "contextual," i.e. don't have the "Move to . . . " feature appear in the menu with all its designated folders, unless you have actually selected a folder to which you want it to apply. Currently, all its designated folders, which is potentially an extensive list, appear whenever you click just the desktop. 2) Make the list of all the designated folders a sub-list under a single "Move to . . ." listing, so at least the potentially extensive list of designated folders doesn't appear in the contextual menu until you actually select the "Move to . . ." listing. This way you could eliminate the need to constantly repeat the cumbersome phrase "Move to" prior to each and every designated folder. All of the designated folders would be understood to be related to "Move to . . ." 3) Ideally, like the other parts of FruitMenu's contextual menu, it would be a wonderful improvement if all of the folder entries that you add would be hierarchal. I look forward to adding my fifth star to an excellent and much needed product. [alert admin]

iData Pro X 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)

shana: I guess…

you just get off on calling people dupes. That's not nice shana, especially when you don't know what you are talking about. I have absolutely no connection with Casady & Greene and I don't even have any opinion of that company. I do know that iData Pro X works wonderfully for me. Reason8tor: In response to your questions, I'm sorry that I cannot provide any insight or experience using iData Pro X as it relates to PDA, Filemaker Mobile or JFile or Documents to Go. All I know about are the areas and functions that I outlined in my previous summary review. All that I can add is that every day that I work with iData Pro X it continues to demonstrate its value, effectiveness and reliability. [alert admin]
