Prosoft DataBackup 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Beware! This program spams your computer with thousands of files!

After giving Data Backup a try I found out that this program has put one invisible folder ".indelible-info" with one file "indelible-backup-des-info.xml" into each and every folder on my hard drives. Altogether I have now 13,508 ".indelible-info" folders with 13,508 "indelible-backup-des-info.xml" files in them on my hard drives. Yes, 13,508 (thirteenthousandfivehundredandeight) each. Moreover, the xml files have very restricted permissions (-rw-r--r--) which makes it more or less impossible to get rid of them in eternity. When I contacted Prosoft's support department about this (with a screenshot that shows everything) they first acted as if Data Backup would only put one single ".indelible-info" folder onto a hard drive and that it would be possible to delete with the "rm" command. After I wrote back that this is not about one folder but 13,508 and that I would like to get rid of them they stopped communicating with me. I would be very careful with this application! Samba 3.4.2 (Mac OS X)

How to install?

How do I install this Samba on an Intel Mac with OS X 10.5? We have our Macs connected to a server with smb and massive problems in general and with Adobe Creative Suite CS3 specifically and I would urgently like to try this Samba instead of the default Samba that comes with OS X 10.5. However, I have not the slightest idea how to make that work! Is there anybody who can help me or tell me where I can find instructions to install this and to make it work? Thank a lot! MaxMenus 1.5.1 (Mac OS X)

Same like FinderPop?

I'm kind of wondering - isn't this pretty much the same like FinderPop? What makes this worth $30 when FinderPop is free? [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.9 (Mac OS X)

Still crashing when trying to print

Also version 3.0.9 is still crashing about 9 out of 10 times when I try to print a page, especially when I triy to print into a PDF file. This is rotten, and it is super rotten that the developers ignore this problems since many, many months althout many places on the internet, including their own forum, are full with reports about this bug. The only good thing about Firefox is its superior privacy handling but to people who are not concerned about that I can only say: "Stay away from Firefox!" [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.8 (Mac OS X)

Still crashing when trying to print

Version 3.0.8 still crashes when trying to print web pages - a common bug that is arrogantly ignored by the developers since many months. [alert admin]

L'Astrologue 6.5 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't launch at all

The application does not launch on my G5 with OS X 10.4.11. Wrote the developers an email and even added a crash log - they didn't even bother to answer. Forget about it! [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Always crashing when trying to print

I don't remember exactly when it started, I think it was with version 3.0.3 or so: Firefox is now always (!) crashing when I try to print a page, regardless of the printer, also when trying to print into a pdf file. Both other browsers that I have installed (Safari and Opera) and all of my other applications anyway have no printing problems. OS X 10.5, G5. There was a time when Firefox was by far the latest and greatest browser around. Now the developers don't even seem to care anymore. On two support forums (http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum.php?locale=en-US&forumId=1 and http://forums.mozillazine.org) are numerous postings about this problem - no reaction from the developers. They are probably too successful ... [alert admin]

URL Manager Pro 3.5b10 (Mac OS X)

Switched now to Butler

Unfortunately UMP still does not work with Firefox 3, and the developer is also not saying wether and/or when a Firefox 3 compatible update will be available. After years of using UMP that's kind of sad. Fortunately I found Butler - which can do everything that UMP could and much more (and works with Firefox 3). [alert admin]

Re: Forget about it!

Uncle Asad - thank you very much for this hint. It remains the question why this is a hidden preference only. I think these days privacy should be one of the top most priorities on the web. I actually think deleting all cookies at the end of a session should be the default state for each browser [except Chrome, of course ... :-)].

Does not work with Firefox 3

It might be rude and even idiotic that Firefox changed its bookmarks format. Still - for me this is a UMP issue. Especially since an alternative like Butler works flawlessly also with Firefox 3.

QuicKeys X 3.1 not fully compatible with Tiger!

Well, if you go to the QuicKeys/Tiger support page (http://www.startly.com/support/faqs/qkx3.html#tiger) you can see for yourself that Startley acknowledges that some Menu Shortcuts don't work under Tiger anymore in 2 of the FAQs ("I upgraded to Tiger and now some of my menu shortcuts don't work" and "Why does my Menu Selection Shortcut not work?"). Given the fact that Tiger is on the market since nearly 1 year now I would have expected a fix for that…
