Sizerox 1.2.9 (Mac OS X)
Just attempted to use the app. Tried it out with just one photo, having set up defaults to match my needs. Everything works fine until you hit the resize button. The App throws up a white rectangle - no bounding box just obliterates an area of the screen (suspect it's showing a progress dialog or similar). Finder shows the app as unresponsive. Force quit. Looks workmanlike and had it worked I would have been posting suggestions for improvement/enhancement. Machine used was an ice generation iMac (Intel based), totally up to date on all Mac OS updates as of today (5th Sept 2008) [alert admin]

NetCheck 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Broken under Leopard Server version 10.51
Folks, I've revisited this useful tool with a view to implementing it on newly migrated servers. Sorry to say that it's broken under Leopard. Specifically, it fails to work when running on a PowerPc based machine running Leopard Server 10.5.1. Looks, from a cursory glance at the Crash Log that the GUI application has problems so I doubt whether the Hound Binary had been called when the crahs occurred. [alert admin]

iToner 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Great little tool - waiting for it to be fixed
Folks, Ignore the carping. It's worth $15 to be able to push your own sounds onto the iPhone. I admit I hadn't licensed it (was about to and the iPhone v1.1.1 update killed it). Looking forward to the update and re-instatement of my sounds as well as sounds I have to pay for. One query. Did the v1.1.1 upgrade clobber the sounds, or just over-write the plist (in otherwords are my sounds still on the iPhone, dangling is some sort of digital limbo?). [alert admin]

EvoBarcode 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Hangs on my MacBook Pro. Wish I'd read the earlier comments, but when I saw it was EvoLogical I thought it would be good - EvoCam has always been a pleasure to use. From the Product Version I suspect that this product is no longer in development. [alert admin]

TuneConnect 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Does not launch on my G4 PowerBook (Al). Running Mac OS X 10.3.9 (with all the latest security and so forth updates). Would be happy to pass log file if this would be useful. [alert admin]

BOINC 5.8.11 (Mac OS X)
Dear BOINC folks. It's considered good form to ask the user before rebooting the machine. OK, so the latest installer doesn't reboot the machine, it meerly logs one out. I figure this is to force the closure of the old software and an orderly re-launch of the new. Even so, it's unforgivable not to give the user a choice! For the record, I just updated the first of my machines. A PowerBook 1.67GHz running (for operational reasons Mac OS 10.3.9). To all the other folks who've posted on this version of BOINC. Thanks for the warnings. I won't be updating any of my Intel Based Macs just yet. [alert admin]

AirPort Monitor Utility 1.1 (Mac OS X)
What's the problem - it works fine
Just found this nice little util listed in today's Version Tracker update and since this sort of stuff grabs my attention I tried it out. I use both Panther and Tiger. So, the default download (Tiger) does nothing for my main Laptop (still running Panther). Found the Panther verison. Downloaded, works like a charm. I have two basestations on my network. An Airport Extreme is the main connection to DSL and an Airport Estreme to extend the network and also push music into my sound system. The whole thing works just fine. To the guy *censored*ing about paying for something that doesn't work. I have no idea why you've getting problems. Suggest you contact the developer. I can't understand why you paid before you tried the 30 day trial is more than generous. To the developer - Nice one. Would love to see some graphical overviews of load on the basestations. Numbers are not (and I suspect this is true of most of us) my hot thing. One slight niggle. Set up both basestations to make noises when a new device comes onto the network. Not a peep. Does this bug me, not really. Would have been sweet - would allow me to get an idea when my buddy connects to the network. [alert admin]

FolderShare 2.6.5 (Mac OS X)
Hmmm - recently acquired by Microsoft
I've just fired this up to see if it might allow me to sync folders across two machines I have which are separated by some distance and connected via two different ISPs. Product looks well enough presented, but after download jumps straight into an installer. I prefer it when developers provide a DMG with at least a little detail on the product. Primary interface seems to be by means of (yet another) menu bar Icon (I say this because mine's already so crowded that it's running out of space). Details on what it does (provided by the App UI) seem a bit sparse. So I visited the developer site. Well done guys, acquired by Microsoft must mean you're on your way to success. I don't think I'll continue to use the product because I'm not 100% percent happy with the way it does what it does, and I figure that (after MS have had it a while) it's likely to drop off the vine in terms of Mac OS. SlingShot 1.03 (Mac OS X)
Lovely product, backed by beautiful (quirky) graphics and web site
Guys, I hope you do really well with this. It caught my eye on todays Version Tracker brief and I thought I might just do the job I need (sadly not). Although I have not yet used this product in anger it looks lovely and should do the job. The UI is so simple I reckon my poor old Mum could use it. Sadly I'm trying to sync folders between machines which are not on the same net - Redevous (Arrghhhh Bonjour) only permits publishing of assets on the same sub-net. [alert admin]

SetiBoincStats 0.6b0 (Mac OS X)
Not compatible with BOINC 5.2.13
If you've been using the Command Line SETI for ages and have acted on the eMail from SETI advising you to use BOINC, and you've installed the recommended version (v 5.2.13), don't download this App. It was created for an older version of BOINC and does not work with the newer versions client data (doesn't recognize the file). Feeling very sad at the loss of old buddy app's like SetiDockling which did just what I needed to do - monitored command line SETI in an immediately communicative way in the dock. [alert admin]

Alas, Norton Speed Disk is dead, however..... iDefrag lives on.
Alas - Alsoft had an excellent little application called DeskExpress, which despite promises has never been released as a Mac OS X App. Still Alsoft really do know about HFS and HFS+ and DiskWarrior is a great app for sorting corrupted directories. As far as I know DiskExpress was never part of the DiskWarrior product. DiskExpress was an OS 9 extension and was always looking to use dead time on a machine to keep the…

Common less than $2 - what's the beef?
Surely you can't begrudge the guys their paltry fee, Memtest has saved me a lot of aggro, I just cannot in good conscience complain that the upgrades are chargeable when the fee is trivial.

Interesting, but has major problems
You can easily overcome the problems with Dynamic IP assignment by your ISP if you have a domain name. Use one of the services such as DynDNS or EasyDNS and run one of the DNS update applications (which you can find on version tracker). Then all you need to do to access your server is remember the DNS name. I personally use EasyDNS to ensure that two of my servers are always up to date,…

Here are two possible reasons (beyond those you advance) why someone might write a negative review and not call you for support/refund * The product is not legitimately owned * The user has already given up, claiming the purchase price back is not going to address the original issue - data loss. BTW. I have used the product. The Desktop Services folks at my place of work used it to recover files for me, so it worked for…
