Pacifist 2.6 (Mac OS X)

Great Application

I think the last contributor is very mean. This App has saved my bacon so many times and for so many of the people I help. It is part of my tool kit like *censored*tail, Onyx, DiskWarrior etc and is indispensable. It is a fool proof method of plucking single Apps from an Installer for those of us who are not geeks I think the price is most reasonable and covers all future updates. iMac 2009 24" 2.66 OS10.5.8 [alert admin]

Adobe Flash Player 10.0.32.18 (Mac OS X)

Works fine here

Have all the folks having trouble remembered that before updating Flash you NEED to run the Uninstaller first? It is available from the Adobe website http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html?promoid=DTEGO I have had no problems in the last 2 years since heeding this advice Flash is running a video as I write this. iMac 24" 2.66 early 2009 OS 10.5.7 [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 3.0.11 (Mac OS X)

Stopped working properly

I too have noticed problems since earlier versions, and also with 3.1 betas (now suddenly 3.5 betas) I can no longer book Airline Tickets with Virgin Blue, as half way thru the process, the cursor disappears from the fields and I am unable to copy and paste details. Then it freezes. I get a Firefox drop down error message I have never seen before. I now have to use Safari to book the tickets. I have used Firefox for 2-3 years and never had this problem before. I like it because of the Add-ons that Safari doesn't yet have. So regrettably. I'll be using Safari much more from now on. 2009 iMac 24" 2.66 10.5.7 [alert admin]

VLC Media Player 1.0.0rc3 (Mac OS X)

Excellent App

It seems that VLC has become the "GraphicConverter" of Video. It seems to open just about any file you throw at it. I played several videos side by side. At first, the same movie played in both looks better in VLC but after a while, it is hard to judge. Both have video adjustment controls so a full range of settings is available to suit any taste. At first colours in QT looked a bit washed out but after a while I think they are more "natural" in QT. In some movies the resolution looked better in QT Player. VLC is a must have App to open files which QT cannot open but I don't think for me, is ready to become my default player yet. iMac 2009 24" 2.66 10.5.7 [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 5.0.4 (Mac OS X)

TechToolPro 5

I too am fed up with the cavalier attitude and CHARGES for minor updates. When I contacted the local dealer in Australia to ask about an update boot DVD for 4.6.2 for the new 2009 iMacs, the reply was "TechTool Pro 5 is out" No offer of the DVD update until I complained to tech support/sales and was directed to the purchase page. The cost is unrealistic so I didn't order. I have used TTPro since it's inception with mainly favourable results. However I object to paying $Au79 just to get a DVD which will boot my early 2009 new iMac when I recently had to buy one to boot my previous 2008 iMac. Alsoft (Pica Australia) charged $Au24 inc P&P for DiskWarrior Boot DVD rev 901. It arrived 3 days after ordering and works really well. A well known supplier of a very popular clone backup facility recommends Drive Genius if you really have to defragment. I am happy with TTPro V 4.6.2 and can use it from my external HD to run repairs. I cannot see the value in V 5 and I think the new "improved" interface is garish and crass to put it mildly. The old interface was functional and easy to follow, almost elegant compare to this latest iteration. Perhaps a re think when Snow leopard is released? It's DiskWarrior Boot DVD for me... They also have a superb, very reasonably priced "burn your own update disc" for upgrades which TTPro have never had. iMac early 2009 24" 2.66 GHz OS 10.5.6 [alert admin]

Slow as a Turtle

Must be something wrong with your Mac 3.5 is brilliant, faster than Safari in most places 3.6 alpha is also very good and stable. I have tried it but will not NetBank with it yet! Sure only 93 in Acid 3 but, so what? Has no practical implications AddOns are brilliant, Safari has none Toolbar options in Safari are sorely lacking. Try loading images from Autosport and see Firefox whip Safari I am the worlds keenest Apple fan but not in this…

Stability Problems

Surely not Download the 4.0.3 .dmg from VersionTracker or Apple, NOT Software Update, Save it to the desktop Move Safari current v4.0.2 version to the Trash but DO NOT EMPTY Install the new version. If you don't like it, move it to the trash and move the old version back to the Applications Folder. I have just done that and I am now sending this from v4.0.2 having done the above and 4.0.3 is in my Trash If you have already…

crashes on every Quit

I suggest a couple of things, Firstly just delete the Skype preferences in your ~Library. com.skype.skype.plist If that doesn't work: Uninstall Skype by using AppZapper Remember you will have to re enter your Skype name and password so you must know those! http://www.appzapper.com/ or AppCleaner, http://www.freemacsoft.net/AppCleaner/ this will remove all the components and then re Install Skype If you remove the Skype Folder from ~Library/Application Support you will lose all your contacts and may have to renter all of them again. I suggest that…

Bad News! Don't Touch!

Can't see why you are having so much trouble. Did you remove the old version first? Maybe something else you have installed is causing the problem? I have been using 3.0.7 but 3.1 is so much faster. I just upgraded from Beta 2 and all is fine, lost no information, Cookies, Bookmarks, Passwords all fine. Maybe you need to run DiskWarrior and MainMenu or Onyx before trying again 3.0.4 is very old and slow now.
