Adobe Reader 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Features Missing

After installing Adobe Reader 9.0 I tested it at the forms page for irs.gov. I have my settings so that display of a pdf in Safari utilizes Adobe's plugin. The requested form, 1040ES, displayed but I received an alert telling me that certain features were not enabled in Reader and, after filling in the form, I could print but not save the document. A dialog also appeared at the top of the document advising me of the same. I attempted to find where, in Reader, to turn on these features but could not. I then removed Reader 9 and reinstalled Adobe Reader 8.1.2 as well as its current update. Things returned to normal. I have filed a bug report with Adobe. [alert admin]

Leopard Cache Cleaner 4.0.10 (Mac OS X)

Non-Blank Password Required in Leopard, Per Apple

I must apologize to the developer for complaining about not being able to use LCC when I have a blank password. I just found a note on Apple's web site that 10.5 will not execute a sudo command when the password is blank. A non-blank password is required. I have created an additional Administrator account for the purpose of using LCC and executing other sudo commands which might be necessary. [alert admin]

Little Snitch 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Installer Works Perfectly in Safe Boot Mode

I sent an email to the developer about the kernel panic and received one back suggesting booting into Safe Boot mode before installing. I did so and it worked flawlessly. Indispensable piece of software. And the developer is extremely responsive. I give five stars to both. [alert admin]

HideItControl 1.25 (Mac OS X)

Excellent Product and Service

I disagree with the negative comments about this product and its developer. I find that HideItControl does what it is supposed to do and the developer is friendly and extremely responsive. I recommend this product to anyone. And, it is Universal Binary. [alert admin]

Psst 2.0.7 (Mac OS X)

Psst 2.0.7

I find that version 2.0.7 works perfectly. It has an additional benefit. With my Intel iMac, upon restart the sound volume is reset to a predetermined level. Psst allows me to set it where I wish and it will remain at that setting after restart. I found that, to change the startup sound volume, I had to restart the iMac with the Psst application open. After the first time it was not necessary to open the application. Great piece of software. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 8.0 (Mac OS X)

Roxio and Toast 8

I recently encountered a problem with the purchase of Toast 8 Titanium and have had problems with Roxio in the past. Well, things appear to be changing. I had the pleasure of dealing with a caring Roxio employee who took care of my problem in an efficient, effective and extremely friendly manner. After some discussion with this person, I came away with the feeling that things are changing for the better. My experience could not have been better. I still think that Toast is one of the best pieces of software ever written for Macintosh. I especially like the new feature in version 8, the ability to create CDs of photos that one can give to friends and family. The recipient can play a slideshow on either PC or Mac with no need for any additional software, not even Toast. This feature, alone, is worth the upgrade to me. A great piece of software, and a company that looks to me like it will be providing first rate customer service. [alert admin]

Symantec Norton Utilities 8.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't Work Properly

Updated Norton Utilities to 8.0.1 on G4 1.25 MDD with OS X 10.3.2. Running NU from startup disk. Disk Doctor will ultimately work but takes a long time to get past VHB Recheck. Speed Disk will not defrag any files. Under Show Fragmented Files it will list the files that are not open and are availbable for degragmentation, but when one attempts to defrag them it fails with a dialog box that it cannot optimize. If I start up from the CD,which has 10.2, it works fine. [alert admin]

Enough is Enough!

I agree. Although the registration is simple enough and I don't have a problem with re-registering upon a major, or even a not so major, update, re-registering for an incremental update is going a bit far.

Is there any other app that does this feature?

HideIt Control, shareware $10, works well on an Intel iMac. And, it is Universal. Also, ASM has hide others as one of its features.

No Safari Bookmark import?

Export Safari Bookmarks to a file, "Safari Bookmarks.html." Then import that file into Firefox. Works perfectly. You just have to take them from the folders and place them where you wish. It should take no more than two minutes.
