AudioTest is a great tool to generate real-time test signals or to create test signal files. There's a large choice of sample rates and bit depths. Beware that the output isn't dithered (version 1.12), so at low (near LSB) signal levels some quantization distortion can appear. This is however negligible for 32 and 24 bit output. To generate 16 bit files it might be best to create a 32 bit file first and convert it to 16 bit with dither in another application. AudioTest is very easy to use and very stable. The options for frequency sweep and level sweep are very useful, for example to test AD and DA converter performance, or to check low-level behavior of digital processors (dither e.g.). On top of that the price is very attractive which makes this application a must have for audio professionals. [alert admin]

Can you give more details about the differences that were not reported ? If it's a problem of the application, perhaps it can be fixed. Did you try other compare applications that perform better on those files ?
