D2X-XL 1.5.95 (Mac OS X)
The D2X-XL project only consists of a replacement executable for the original Descent 2 application. The installation instructions state clearly that you need the retail game data. I am not doing the D2X-XL port myself, and ofc those who are doing it don't have my intimate knowledge of the code. I would have fixed all issues within a week, had I a Macintosh computer. I am not rich though, so I am not gonna spend my own money on one - because I really only need one to fix D2X-XL (and make its Mac users happy). You can support me by donating some money to me. At the rate donations are currently coming, I will however be able to purchase even a used Mac in about 5 years or so. I am not after your money, but looking at the number of downloads, this is rather saddening. ;) [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.5.86 (Mac OS X)
I am currently introducing a more uniform package naming, so please note the new download link: http://www.descent2.de/resources/d2x-xl-osx-1.5.86.dmg [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.5.70 (Mac OS X)
The required game and data folders are clearly stated in http://www.descent2.de/d2x-install.html in a section with the head line 'MAC OS X'. The very same installation page states that you need the full game data to run D2X-XL. If you cannot be bothered to read, nobody can help you! [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.5.60 (Mac OS X)
Hello D2X-XL users, I hope I am allowed to write this here. :) I don't own a Mac and cannot afford one, so the Mac OS X port is not in my hands. The guys working on it have my full support, but don't have the intimate knowledge of the game code I have acquired during my time of maintaining it. If you want to support me, you can head to my Descent site and donate some money. You can be assured that any donations made there will go 100% into this project. First thing I'd get would be a Mac to iron out the remaining OS X issues of D2X-XL. Dietfrid [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.5.44 (Mac OS X)
folder detection will be fixed with the next version
All folder detection problems d2x-xl OS X currently encounters will be fixed with the next version which hopefully will be published soon. I have investigated thoroughly in this issue and believe to have created a 100% working solution for all OS's d2x-xl supports. [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.5.44 (Mac OS X)
A potential fix for the crash problem might be to place all Descent 2 data and the d2x-xl executable in a folder named /Application/Games/D2X-XL. (Put the mission files in /Application/Games/D2X-XL/Missions as usual). From a (d2x-xl generated) logfile another user has sent me today I had the impression that otherwise the OS X version will mess up folders. Dietfrid [alert admin]

D2X-XL 1.5.44 (Mac OS X)
Please note that the Descent 2 data folder has changed to '/Applications/Games/D2X-XL' for v1.5.44. Please read the installation instructions at http://www.descent2.de/d2x-install.html. [alert admin]

D2X (Descent 2) 0.2.6.b12 (Mac OS X)
Hey guys, take a look at this: http://www.brockart.de/descent/d2x.html and then start asking mcotis to port that D2X version to Mac OS X. ;) Greetings karx22erx [alert admin]

Looks like an ad for the temperature monitor rather than a serious and useful comment. D2X-XL will use both CPU cores if you let it, and if your Macbook isn't properly cooled (and if you heat it up with your body heat as well), you should rather print "I am dumb enough to almost destroy my MacBook by holding it on my lap". Btw, I've never heard or read of D2X-XL doing anything like that…

I haven't read so much bullcrap in so few words in quite a while. That comment intention apparently rather is to harm the project than to give useful feedback. D.Mali

This version may be free, but you must own the original version for it to work.
So it annoys you that you have to pay for something you want to own?

Hangs on startup, black screen
I had a Mac developer do the Mac port, but he updates very infrequently, and wasn't able to fix some remaining issues (networking and new enhanced D2X-XL level format).

Hangs on startup, black screen
The previous build is not available, and am not able to fix this one for the Mac as I don't own a Mac, can't afford one, and the 700 or so Mac D2X-XL users do not care enough to donate a few bucks so that I could afford one and get this thing really going for OS X. So all you can do is install a compiler, get the source code, compile it, run it…
