TextMate 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)

TextMate - Version 1.5.4 Has Been Available A While

I downloaded this just to compare to the version I was using - this version has been out for a while and it has a November "Created Date". I think the developer has just updated Version Tracker upon returning from a long vacation. Here is an update from the TextMate Blog: "Wednesday the 29th of November I am leaving for New Zealand. I will be gone for no less than 10 weeks, so the return date is the 9th of February 2007." This is an incredible text editor and I have only figured out a portion of its capabilites. Anyone needing a powerful editor that harnesses the power of existing Unix and Unix-like tools with a simple Mac interface would be well rewarded in looking at this application. There is a lot of information available on the web and a solid help file, but even with that I have only tapped into a portion of what this application can do. Based on the website, the next major release of the application will be available for Leopard only, so if you are looking at the application and have already determined you will not be transitioning to Leopard, be advised that the "2.x" releases and functionality will not be available to you. That said, there is so much functionality in the application already that this upgrade decision may not impact you! Here's an interesting interview with the developer: http://www.randsinrepose.com/archives/2007/01/26/interview_allan_odgaard.html [alert admin]

StorDirector 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Demo Limitations

I downloaded the demo and was excited about reviewing the features of this software given the quality of their storage solutions in the graphics arena, but the demo is so limited that you cannot really see how the partition or raid functions can be setup, implemented or edited. I recommend a new demo that allows all of these functions to be tried out but no changes written to disk, or a short demo period with even more functionality. As it stands, I can't say if the application will meet my needs (supporting about 1.5 terabytes of storage across a 6 disk array, but I won't pay to find out it does not meet my needs. At least online documentation or application help files would be nice. [alert admin]
