VMware Fusion 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Now We are Talkin'

Ok, 2.0.3 had issues. In all fairness, it's the first issues I've ever seen in this app. 2.0.4 makes it all better again, and it's been done in short order. Kudos to VMware! Thanks! [alert admin]

VMware Fusion 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)

2.0.3 Destroyed my Bootcamped Vista

10.5.6 & Vista 64-Bit Ultimate bootcamped with Fusion: 2.0.3 Destroyed my Vista installation. It boots in bootcamp and in fusion, but the start menu is empty; the poweron script doesn't work. All of my apps that need activated are now deactivated. It's slow and nothing works. Previous versions have all been wonderful. Skip 2.0.3. [alert admin]

iEffectsoft DVD Ripper 2.0.3.2 (Mac OS X)

One More Duplicate

What is this? Four in three days? What is this Chinese companies plan? Is it to flood the market with so many duplicate titles that are all the same, but look different in the hopes that the average Joe will end up buying one of their apps rather than quality ones such as MTR or RipIt? This is most annoying. Plus there is their tactic of breaking down each task into its own application so that they can repeatedly charge you more money more times for each task rather than do what most reputable developers do which is sell you an app that does multiple tasks. It doesn't have to cook me dinner, but one app that encodes several file types is reasonable. Not an app that just encodes for iPod. Then another for PSP, then another for MP4, then another for.... MKVToolNix 2.4.2 (Mac OS X)

MKVtools 2.1?

Now that mkvmerge 2.4.2 is out, do I need my MKVtools 2.1 app, or would keeping it along side of mkvmerge 2.4.2 be redundant? Thanks! [alert admin]

PandoraJam 1.3 build 250 (Mac OS X)

So well done!

Wow, this is a killer app and extremely well thoughout! The attention to detail rocks. Aspects I like are as follows: - no browser needed - small enough to be out of the way, but large enough to have all of the web based features - recording!!!!! - thumbs up recordings automatically kept in a folder; thumbs down recordings not kept at all - ability to automatically add to iTunes or not (my daughter does, I don't) - automatically gets the cover art - can edit stations etc. One thing I don't care for (probably not PandoraJam's fault): - 64 bit rate recordings However, I assume that they are broadcast in this manner, or that this is done to prevent "issues". Either way, I'm really impressed with this app, and strongly recommend it to all others. His Comic book app is great too. The only issue is that I don't know what to suggest to the poor Windows users who can't use PandoraJam. Well, aside from, "go buy a Mac". [alert admin]

Intego VirusBarrier X5 10.5.5 (Mac OS X)

The Best AntiVirus App for the Mac

I've had this app for years and I've never found it to noticably slow down any of the Macs I've used it on which include: Mac Pro, iMac (Intel), iMac (PPC), G5, and PowerBook G4. There was an earlier version of X5 that caused intermittent crashes on the Intel iMac when Read Time Scanning was on, but that has since been fixed, other than that, there have never been problems for me. Last night it found its first virus too. It found a piece of Malware on my Vista drive, and it was able to repair the file. Surprisingly BitDefender didn't find it (and it's a Windows AntiVirus app), but sure enough VirusBarrier did. I'm impressed and will continue being a loyal Intego customer. [alert admin]

Flip4Mac Drive-in 1.0.1.1 (Mac OS X)

AppleTV???

Does this app work on AppleTV? I find this interesting, but the Regional code and encryption issues just make it too restrictive. Currently I just rip with RipIt or MTR and FTP the file (or folder) to my AppleTV where I can watch it in it's full quality with all of the extras and menus and NOT have to deal with regional codes, encryption etc. No, the AppleTV can't do this by itself, but it can with aTVFlash which you can check out here: http://www.atvflash.com/index.php I hope others find this helpful. Telestream, if you'd remove the regional code and encryption restrictions and found a way for it to interact with my AppleTV, then I'd consider your product. [alert admin]

DVDRemaster 4.4.3 (Mac OS X)

The Best

This is such amazing software. It's also worth it to get the Pro version since you can do a lot more with it. Nothing is better for encoding your iPod and/or AppleTV movies. Subtitles, different languages, removal of black bars, extraction of subtitles or the audio. plus it reencodes for DVDs and burns. It's easy, flexible, and stunning. Highly recommend it. Boomerang Data Recovery 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Ouch, take back what I just said! Upgrade sucks!

Version 2 sure looked great until I read their "upgrade". Oh my God! They did away with the Universal license for the "Home User", and even worse is that you loose "credit" as you recover files. Hence, if you only buy 100 MB of recovery credit, you can only recover 100 MB with it. At that time if you want to recover more, then you have to pay them more! A TB is $280.00 so if I recover a single drive, it costs me $280.00 and then I've got to spend an additional $280.00 to get a TB's worth of credit back for the next catastrophe! This seems way too expensive for me, especially since version 1 allowed me to recover unlimited data for one price on 2 different platforms! Being a Boomerang owner as well as a Data Rescue II customer, my experience has been that each will succeed where the other one fails, and that neither is perfect, nor better than the other. Therefore I used to own both, but with this new pricing scheme (and a scheme it is) I'm simply sticking with Data Rescue II and it only! Prosoft doesn't rob you, nor does it require activation, or any other annoying or limiting factors. It just works, and at $100.00 for unlimited recovery of any amount of data on any drives, you just can't beat it compared to $280.00 per TB of recovered data. Sorry Boomerang, but you just lost a customer. I'm sticking with Prosoft's Data Rescue II! [alert admin]

Boomerang Data Recovery 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

New Interface is Great!

Wow! The new interface is wonderful, and it appears as though the app has been greatly improved too. It almost makes me want to have to recover files... almost. However, I have a "Universal" license and it doesn't appear that the Windows side got the same overhaul. Obviously I'd like to see it for Windows as well, but to be honest, I think the developer chose wisely in prioritizing the platform. ;-) [alert admin]

Didn't do what I expected!

MacThe Ripper is free, but it is for the old version. If you want the latest version (which rips virtually all discs unlike the free version) you'll need to donate. There is a new version coming very soon. http://www.ripdifferent.com Go to the forum for more details. It's probably the best ripper. RipIt was extremely good too, but it just changed hands and hasn't had any updates lately. I hope this helps.

The Balance of life

Gee, what did you expect? Did you honestly think that any software in existance makes a perfect translation? More importantly, what are you teaching your kid? It's ok to cheat, and go about it in an obvious manner too?! Are you kidding? It's no wonder why the behavior of our kids is getting worse and worse. Please consider being a responsible parent and teching your kid some ethics before…

Ripit

What exact malware does it install? No offense, but I think you guys got it wrong. This is a very easy and great app. I've also never had problems getting email responses either. Try some movies. It works the vast majority most of the time, and they make it easy to collect the data needed to make future versions work with discs that fail to rip. What more can you ask…

Another one?

I totally agree. Also the same as mp4converter.com It's a Chinese company. It's very annoying that they try to flood the market with the same software repackaged 20 times over. What's also annoying is the fact that they want to sell you 10 different apps which each only do one thing rather than one app that does them all. Not that I expect everything for nothing, but I don't care…

Freeware alternative ...

If you want to rip newer titles, then theses freeware options usually will fail. Fairmount maybe will work, but it doesn't compare to RipIt or MTR 3.0. Those will knock out just about anything. Handbrake encodes for iPod/AppleTV, but won't let you reburn. the free MTR is unsupported and won't work with most newer titles. If you want it done right, RipIt is the most reliable and cheap way to…

Who Are You?

Well, they claim they aren't either the Disco/AppZapper guys, nor are they they the Shrinky-DVD-Ink scammers. The product works. I guess they are legit. Still wishing for Blu-ray support. I guess I'll buy.

Excellent

You are correct. A tad rude, but correct. What I should have said is that MacDrive will potentially open up your Mac drives to Windows threats. None the less, I believe that I did leave some good information for others who might consider buying the product.

Crashes instantly!

My Mac version works fine, but my Windows version crashes immediately upon launch as well. I too have posted in their forums and am a paid user (since some people seem soooo concerned about that). There certainly is a problem with 2.2.0 though. Apparently it is on both platforms. Also, I appreciate your post. It is helpful even though others are rude.

Why shouldn't I listen to tcloer?

Yes, I've tried Burn and it wasn't bad. Then again, I bought Disco when it was a beta for $15.00. I've seen Toast sales, never anywhere close to $15.00. So, I appreciate your info, and I appreciate Burn being free, but I just felt that for $15.00 Disco couldn't be beat. Now, the "normal" price of $30.00 is perhaps a bit high, but currently it's only $20.00 which I also think…
