GyazMail 1.5.7 (Mac OS X)

Nothing but praise for this app

I was a long-time user of Eudora but had to give it up when it started refusing to print messages. I then decided to give Mailsmith a go, and stuck with it for about a month until its sluggishness began to drive me completely crazy. Then I switched to GyazMail and I have found it to be just what I need to process the sometimes thousands of e-mails which I receive daily from a number of organizational accounts. Used with SpamSieve, the junk-mail filtering is top-notch. Another feature which I really like, is the ability to select a large number of messages and redirect them all to another address; this can be done in Eudora, but can not be done in Mailsmith without extra scripting. BIAS SoundSoap Pro 1.14 (Mac OS X)

Still doesn't appear to be Intel-native

I tried running the plug-in using Peak with the "Use Rosetta" option unchecked, but it didn't work. But when I switched back to Rosetta, it worked fine. It would be nice if Bias's website would make it clear that this is not their long-expected native-Intel update to this product. [alert admin]

Won't recgnize my Mbox

After upgrading from 6.7 to 6.9 with the CD, and then to 6.9.2 with the download, the application still won't recognize my Mbox while running Tiger 10.4.1, and always gives the error "Digidesign hardward is in use by another application. -1133" even when no other app is using it. [alert admin]

USB Audio ASIO driver 1.08 (Mac OS X)

Works on Tiger

This has put my Mbox back in business, at least as a holdover until Digidesign issues its own updates. But please note that, just as with Digidesign's Core Audio driver under Panther, some apps will fail to launch unless you temporarily remove the plugin from /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL. In fact, I just discovered that Dashboard widgets don't work unless I do that. And ditto for VueScan. [alert admin]

iDefrag 1.01 (Mac OS X)

Makes me nervous

After backing up my main system volume, I defragged it using iDefrag's "Compress" algorithm, and it worked just fine. But then I tried defragging a second time using its "Optimize" algorithm, and I got an "extents" error, and a message saying iDefrag coulnd't proceed. In order to fix the problem, I had to run the Apple Disk Utility twice, and then also Disk Warrior TWICE. The volume seems okay now, but I'm understandably a bit nervous about trying to optimze a second time using this application. [alert admin]

Perfect Pitch 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Why only A=440 Hz?

Lacks the ability to change the reference pitch to anything other than A=440 Hz. I happen to use the "Verdi" tuning of C=256 Hz (A=430.5 Hz), but on the other side, many orchestras nowadays tune even higher than A=440 Hz. Such a feature would make this app useful for a much wider array of musicians. [alert admin]

Starry Night 4 4.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Well, Open GL…

_does_ work for me with the 4.05 update, on my "original" TiBook with built-in ATI RageM3 with 8 MB of VRAM. It works both with thousands and millions of colors, running OS 10.2.4. [alert admin]

It's $59.00 if you own 7

I got an even better price on the website: $53.99. Visit their Upgrade center, specify that you have Toast 7 (if indeed you have it), click "Buy Download", and then wait for a minute or so, and you'll get a popup offering an extra $6.00 discount if you upgrade right away.

3.0 Installer crashes on my 17-inch MacBook Pro

Followup: Turns out it was crashing because of items associated with Norton SystemWorks that had been copied over into /Library/StartupItems when I transferred apps from my old PowerBook G4. Removing the following items from /Library/StartupItems solved the crashing problem: NortonAutoProtect NotrtonAutoProtect.kextcache NortonMissedTasks NUMCompatibilityCheck SymDCInit
