Structured PDF from Entourage Message 1.0 (Mac OS X)

BIZARRE APPLESCRIPT ISSUE

Okay, so I've been getting a lot of feedback on this, and while I'm trying to figure out a fix, I'm not sure if I can. If you have both Acrobat *Reader* and Pro installed, there is a chance, depending on (I *think*) how your system is configured, that the first time the script runs, AppleScript will go "oh, THAT'S not right" and try to open up the email in *Reader*. This of course incorrect. So far, it's only happened with Acrobat 7 Pro. The fix is, open the script in Script Editor, or whatever environment you prefer, and go to line 233, and make sure it reads: tell application "Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional" save it, and it should remain unchanged from there on out. I'm working on a more permanent fix, but for now, that's the workaround. Thanks, and sorry about all that. [alert admin]

Now it's really universal

Sigh...stupid Xcode...okay, if you downloaded it yesterday, that was an Intel-only build. I just uploaded the Unversal build. Sorry about that. [alert admin]

Readme redux

As it says in the info, .sitx files sometimes are downloaded as garbage text. If you get this:

  1. let the download complete
  2. save the file as a text file with a .stix extension
  3. open it in Stuffit Expander

Oy...

What does your opinion of the show or its host have to do with the software? The software quality, and ability to perform the tasks it is supposed to perform is not dependent on the quality, or lack thereof, of the show's content. [alert admin]

Setting Idle

i agree Zyp, but at the moment, "Idle" is a read-only property of the account, not the Application, so all I can set is Available/Away/Offline. john [alert admin]

The Kernel extension is part of the wiretap functionality for the sound capture. It's been out for a while now. john [alert admin]

Security Update out

It looks like Apple bundled what this script does into a security update released on the 19th of December. I would of course encourage all to go apply it. john [alert admin]

Oh very true…

cfreger. But there is a need for unattended scans. For example, many email apps save attachments to their own folder when you download the message, then allow you to copy that attachment elsewhere via the application UI. In that case, you'd have to manually scan 2 files, not just one. IE/Mozilla/etc. don't autoscan on downloads, so this provides an automatic way to do it. Is it a terrible raging need? Probably not, but then, that's why it's free. I commented the source extensively, so you can also use it if you want to play with folder actions or scripting shell commands. a future update will hook it in to a visual notifier that isn't a dialog. john [alert admin]

Where's the value add?

Take a look at the sample PDFs I included with the download. Note the difference from the two not done via this script; "PDF via Mac OS X" (Mac OS X's PDF generation function), "PDF via Acrobat 8 Printer", (Using Distiller as the printer) and compare them to "PDF via Script", (the one done with this script). Rather large difference, and that's just a generic HTML email in my spam folder. This preserves the live links…

How about a link, at least?

If you don't know who Cornhoolio is, then I'm not sure why you would want to run this script. There is of course, always Google. I hear it's right handy for finding information on things. Sincerely, the author of the script.
