Print Therapy 6.0.7 LE (Mac OS X)
This is a wonderful utility for fixing tough printing issues. Yesterday, all of the applications on my Mac started crashing or hanging every time I tried to print. I couldn't open Print & Fax in System Preference because it would hang when I tried (so I couldn't just reset the printing system from there). I tried trashing preference files, replacing the cupsd.conf file with cupsd.conf.default, tried creating a new user account ... nothing worked. Finally, I downloaded Print therapy and was able to reset the printing system and the problem was solved. In reflection, with some research and a little tinkering in Terminal, I probably could have accomplished this feat from the command line, but Print Therapy gave me a time-saving and easy way to skip that. While probably is the point ... Print Therapy is a convenient, time-saving front-end for a lot of command line power related to the cups printing system. [alert admin]

A Fantastic Utility Just Got Better ... ![]()

I've used this application for almost two years. It is absolutly a must have for any poweruser. The application has remained a consistently reliable repository for my passwords and other secure information. With military-grade security, this application provides both convenience and security. The application's biggest features are ... * encourages the use of incredibly secure passwords (generates and then stores those passwords); * supports use of multiple identities (business [different bill-to and ship-to addresses] and home identities, for example) * encrypted, secure notes; * software license and license key storage; * credit card information storage; and * iPhone sync (securely carry your passwords anywhere). Evernote 1.5.0 (Mac OS X)
I use 1Password from Agile Solutions all the time for my password generation, storage, and recall. In prior versions, because the Evernote's Safari clipper plugin conflicted with 1Password in Safari, I really couldn't use Evernote as easily as I wanted. However, with this version, Evernote and 1Password work side by side in Safari, and all is well. The free version now has a tiny 1.5" x 1.5" ad on the bottom left of the screen. For me, that seems like a small "price" to pay for the free storage and free application. However, now that I can use the Safari clipping service, I plan to upgrade to a paid account. I love Evernote's integration with the iPhone version of Evernote and with the web-based version so that I can access it on any computer. For me, this version really works out all of the kinks in Evernote, and I am very happy with it. [alert admin]

Lotto Sorcerer X 6.21 (Mac OS X)
This "Pale Face" is Stepping Out of This ...
Hey ... Ban_This ... It's spelled "roommate." And, my "roommate," Tyrone, stole my $200 because he turned out to be a cross-dresser, and that "special purchase" was an aquamarine taffeta sundress in the display window at Macy's (I told Tyrone that he could never fit in that size 6 dress ... he is like 240 pounds!). So ... who is the "loser" now? That's right ... it's Tyrone: he could never fit in that dress! ... You know dude, you are starting to sound a lot like that banned user, Ancient_Boii_Tribe. Neither of you were capable of picking up on a little good spirited ribbing and humor. This all started because you got so preachy about some silly lottery software. Of course, the stuff is bunk, but any guy who buys lottery software isn't going to listen to your pedantic lesson in random number generation. So ... I'm neither associated with the developer or a lottery player (nor do I have a sister named Loretta or a roommate named Tyrone). I'm going to stop posting to this thread because you've started sounding a little postal when referencing your recent divorce and the value your home (though I must admit, a "700,000.00 historical home" is pretty impressive ... need a cross dressing roommate?). While the rest of Americans have been losing their rears at the stock market, I've been using Lotto Sorcerer to win big bucks. Just this week (Jan 5), I won $735 in the Texas Two Step Lottery. I invested $127 in tickets and watched as 3, 5, 6, and 8 came up as a 4 of 4 winner! So far, since using Lotto Sorcerer, I'm up 3150.57 (would have been $3,350.57 if my crazy ex-roommate hadn't stolen $200 from me for his "special" purchase (don't ask). So, I guess I'll let the statistical geniuses (like some of the posters here) watch their 401Ks tank, while I'm enjoying high dollar New Year's barbeque with my sister, Loretta, and my mother, Mamma, here in sunny Texas ... thanks to Lotto Sorcerer and its powerful neural network algorithms! Call Recorder for Skype 2.3.4 (Mac OS X)
I've been using Call Recorder to record interviews for a podcast I do. Simply put ... it's great. I have not experienced a single problem, the software is incredibly simple to use, and the resulting recordings are very good. If I had to come up with a complaint, it would be that the overall design of the application isn't very attractive, but, otherwise, this is a very solid little utility that does exactly what it says ti will. 1Password 1.2 (iPhone)
I've been a fan of 1Password's Mac application for some time. This implementation for the iPhone is a great for 1.x software. Most of the weaknesses are related to limitations imposed by the iPhone itself. Because the iPhone "sandboxes" it's apps, 1Password uses its own browser in order to pass a username and password to a Web site. The 1Password browser is not the polished experience supplied with Safari, but it is not bad by any means. Also, 1Password can't pass username and passwords to other iPhone applications (again -- the sandbox issue). Having said that, this iPhone application is a great tool for entering stored password information into Web sites. I have had none of the crash or sync issues a couple of posters mention. The application runs quite well for me thus far. [alert admin]

Apple has hit an incredible home-run with this firmware update. I'm loving this update for my first generation (EDGE) iPhone. On Friday, I posted about the difficulties I had with activation and activation; however, by 2:00 p.m. when Apple and AT&T got their stuff together, I was able to get the phone up and running. Since then, I haven't looked back. I love the new iPhone applications. I'm particularly pleased with the OmniFocus and Everote applications. Apple's Remote iPhone application, is a very cool way to control my Apple TV. "Push" with my MobileMe account is working well for me. I only wish other email services offered "push" for the iPhone. Sure ... I thought of that too! Along with the idea that aliens captured uncle Leonard and probed his anus, Kennedy was shot by the Mob, the moon landing was shot in a hollywood studio ... but then I took a deep breath and realized that the Free Masons will take care of things ... if you know what I mean.

Yes ... technically, if you use the free version you get a little 1.5" x 1.5" ad in the bottom left corner. It really seems benign and strikes me a s a small price to pay for the free storage space and free application.

Sure ... I'm running Leopard 10.5.6 on a MacBook Pro (Intel). As a side note ... I typically download updates from the Apple Support area, restart my computer in Safe Boot mode, install the update, repair permissions afterwards, and then restart. I don't do this for all updates ... but I tend to do it with the bigger ones.

Yes. Just keep jacking around with it. Unplug the iPhone from the computer and plug it back. I *think* the deal is that the iTunes store is overwhelmed or something, and the phone can't reach the store to activate. Eventually, if you keep messing with it a bit, it will get the connection it needs to the store and the phone will come to life.

I'm not saying this is a satisfying solution, but you could bypass the auto-updater altogether. Just download the updates you need from the Microsoft Mactopia website and then install them yourself. I hope that helps.

Hi Andres, Is this a known bug? I have no trouble downloading office documents from either web sites or as email attachments. Also, I'm not sure that a situation where Safari appends an incorrect file extension is a problem with Office 2008 (i.e., maybe there is something amiss with your client). I apologize if this is a known issue and not related to something on your system, but I just can't reproduce the trouble you are…
