Version 4.0 Toast 8 -- Very Fussy ![]()

I posted this on the Toast 8 feedback since the version that comes with 8 is not listed here (4.0.0.169). Don't fret if you have an earlier version - the only big improvement is a button export to send to iTunes -- and like everything else in this program it is fussy. I was hoping for a streaming record feature = wiretap pro but no. It is still line in based recording. It has great potential but is a klunky interface that is very fussy. It does not like working with anything input other than AIFF files and if you export to iTunes it is very fussy on track names. Artist and Album information on a "compilation" will drive you nuts. Better to do song name only (one at a time) and enter the artist and album when you export to iTunes. Crazy error message on iTunes export. I used "&" in a song title and it would not export the track to iTunes. Error message gave no clue to the problem advising me to check to see if iTunes was operating properly. Had to Google the error message to learn from a post that "text only" is the rule for song title, album and artist info. [alert admin]

Spanning capability is worth the ticket price alone. ![]()

I am long time Mac user and frequent user of this site. I rarely post comments or reviews, because I am not an early adopter. By the time I get a program it has all been said. So.. the exception here: I bought this upgrade for the spanning capability. I just completed archiving an entire volume spanned over 6 DVD's and it worked FLAWLESSLY. For anyone who has struggled with Apple's Backup, or knows the difficulty of spanning to removable media this is HUGE. The only real option to archive an entire drive was to clone, and that won't work for a removable device. I use 10.4 TIger on an old G4 AGP Graphics machine, and I could not be more pleased. Not only does it place a restore program on every DVD, the mounted backup lists every folder that is spanned, still giving you direct point and click access to individual files. Just mount the volume and go. Only individual files spanned over two volumes have to be restored. Plus, you can batch scan the file list into the included DiscCatalogMaker program that can be stored and searched. Print it to PDF and spotlight will be able to search the catologed files in unmounted media! NICE> If you have never tried to back up an entire volume to removable media, this may be no big deal - but it really fit the need I have. I know Roxio has been hit and miss on customer support, but I downloaded this as an upgrade from 7 and had no problems. It does check for previous install, and if you don't have it installed -- note it will ask for an old serial number in the install process BEFORE you enter your new product key. My only negative comment so far -- I was hoping for more on the Spin Doctor program. It has great potential but is a klunky interface that is very fussy. It does not like working with anything input other than AIFF files and if you export to iTunes it is very fussy on track names. Artist and Album information on a "compilation" will drive you nuts.
