Now Up-to-Date & Contact 5.3 (Mac OS X)

Now featuring faster crashes!

I'm dissappointed that 5.3 is even less reliable than previous versions. I barely see any speed increase other than how quickly and frequently it crashes. It crashes when launching, when connecting to the server, when quitting... there has to be a better option for small Mac/Windows workgroups. [alert admin]

CCAuthorize 3.4.8 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Great product, fantastic developer

We have used ccAuthorize and worked with this develop for several years now. The product works great on multiple platforms - rock solid. It's superior eAuthorize in many respects - particularly when it comes to support from the developer. I highly recommend this plug-in to developers and end-users. [alert admin]

Fast DVD Copy 2.5 (Mac OS X)

So far, so good

I downloaded and tested this with a new DVD release that included subtitles and bonus features. While it couldn't fit the bonus features (and had to reduce the quality from "highest" to "good"), it burned successfully and plays via an Xbox. It took approximately two hours, most of it in the copying and compression period. I previously tested version 2.2 with a different DVD (Election). That copied in its entirety at the "highest" quality and played successfully on the Xbox. I'm running 10.3.4 on a 1.5 GHz 17" PowerBook with 1 GB of RAM. I previously used DVDXCopy with Windows XP with mixed (but mostly successful) results. One nice feature about DVDXCopy was the ability to copy (at the highest quality with all bonus features) using two discs. Fast DVD Copy appears to only allow for one disc. DVDXCopy only seemed to work if you turned Norton Security off and didn't have ANY other applications open whereas Fast DVD Copy worked fine in the background with a number of applications in use. For now, I'm a satisfied customer. But, if I need to switch computers or if I have any tech support issues, perhaps that will be a different story. This seems to be the best solution for Mac OS X and unlike the makers of DVDXCopy, AfterDawn.com, this company has not been shut down by the federal courts. Given their location outside the US, perhaps Velan will continue to develop and support this product. If you purchase this in August, make sure to use the coupon code offered on VersionTracker.com to save $20. [alert admin]

Monitorer X 1.5.1 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't Uninstall!!

I followed the directions to uninstall it after evaluating it - I'm still getting the annoying pop-up window every time my Mac starts up. [alert admin]

Mail Scripts 2.1.6 (Mac OS X)

Great product, great support

These tools are valuable for any person who uses Mail regularly - critical for heavy users. And, when I encountered an error, I got fast, helpful feedback from the developer. Nice job picking up the ball that Apple dropped! [alert admin]

Intuit QuickBooks Pro 6.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Windows "compatibility" does not exist - and more

After spending considerable time trying to use the "Create a file for QuickBooks Windows" feature, I ended up buying an annual support package. I then spent multiple calls and hours with support who were unable to solve the problem. They used a variety of excuses and suppositions but had no answers. Very frustrating - especially with our Accountant being on the Windows platform. Additionally, you can no longer use the QuickBooks online billing service. Yes, you can created PDF invoices on OS X (which you can do from any program on OS X) but there is no longer tracking or reminder features. And good luck cancelling that service if you used to have it on Windows - it's impossible to end it due to the website not working and support staff not returning messages. [alert admin]
