Readiris Pro 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Beside that Readiris user interface is a mess, the fact it is totally unintuitive, Version 12 is buggy, like any other version Iris ever published for a Mac, it's a totally overpriced software. The Pro version is limited to 50 scanned pages per scan. If you want more pages, you will have to buy the Cooperate Version which is 400€. That is ridiculous. Some years ago Readiris was the only OCR program for the Mac, now there is more. They are cheaper, and they do the same or even better work. Check EcxactScan. They support a number of scanners, like Avision or Fujitsu directly and you even don't have to use a twain driver. If you scanner is not supported directly it uses your twain driver. Price is about €100, some like Readiris Pro. And there is no 50 page limit. [alert admin]

I used Acrobat Pro, and Readiris Cooperate for scanning. None of them worked the way I wanted. Readiris 11 was always buggy and I never liked that bloated Acrobat. ExactScan beats them hands down, for a mere 100€ you get all you want from an OCR scanning solution, there is no limit of scanned pages like that ridiculous 50 page limit of Readiris Pro, which costs exactly the same. If you need help, you call them and you get one of the programers on line who will give you immediate competent support. No call center help line, who knows less than you do, like Apples first level support. Any wishes, if it makes sense to them, they will look into it. I got an AV3200SU Duplex scanner with it, all together for 900€. Only the update for Readiris Coop, which you need if you want to scan more than 50 pages is 400€. Their driver for the Avision scanner is a direct driver, meaning there is no fumbling around with twain interfaces. However there is a twain driver as well, so you can also scan out your Apps, like Image Capture. Check there website if you scanner is supported. They have drivers for Fuijitsu, Xerox, and other scanners you would love to use under OS X. I was really happy to get a professional scanner now running with my mac. Bye, bye HP. Together with the speedy Avision scanner I can use document management like I always wanted on my mac, which was not possible before due to poor scanner drivers and OCR software under OS X. And yes, the user interface, though I have to admit it's quite effective, could use some cosmetic. [alert admin]

Xtorrent 1.0 (40) (Mac OS X)
I bought the software, got a serial in minutes. No prpblem at all. This is the best file sharing prgram I have ever used. Don't get bothered by all those bashing comments. Check it out, some of those guys have never ever written a possitive comment. [alert admin]

Crm4Mac 3.0b5 (Mac OS X)
I had a pretty long review published here. Just plain facts, nothing else. So I guess this is policy. Delete a review if you don't like it. So in short form: Just another software which at first makes a nice impresssion, but at second view shows to be quite useless. [alert admin]

Letter Star 1.6.0 (Mac OS X)
This prgram urgently needs an upgrade. Handling of windows, maximizining, zooming, page viewing, all that is far behind state of the art. The programers know that, but there is nothing coming. I have used Letter Star since day one, and the UI is still more MS windows than Mac like. Will switch to Mellem, Marine Writer or the new Nisus writer if there is no change. Just not fun to work with this way. [alert admin]

Creo Six Degrees 2.04 (Mac OS X)
Presently does not fully support IMAP accounts like .mac. Only new mails will be diplayed. Any changes in the account, like deleted mails, will not be reflected. So all spam will be stored permanently on your computer. Makes you wonder if you may use 6D when your kids are around. Don't like that. But you may delete those mails manually one by one from inside 6D. Takes some time though. [alert admin]

Creo Six Degrees 2.04 (Mac OS X)
6D improved quite a bit. It let's you find emails which are related to each other with a click. I found Emails , which I would have only hardly found by searching mail.app. But the results are disturburbing sometimes. If a single person has several differnet Email addresses ( I myself had at least 10 Mail addresses over the years) there is no way to tell 6D thats those addresses belong to the same person. So many of the search results are messed up, as the same person will show up under different Email names in different searches. This is a real drawback to me, and keeps me away from using 6D. Mail is now not dependent on your mail.app or Entourage but is web based. This also means that there might be inconsistencies between your mail application and 6D. Would have been better to do that optional. 6D now uses a browser as the User Interface. I don't understand that. We all use OS X also because Aqua gives programers the possibility to make real good looking Interfaces. A browser is the least elegant way to go, and this just makes working with 6D not something I really look forward to. If I can use another program which does the work and it is Cocoa based, it usually take that. Have a look at crm4mac. does a lot was 6D does but more elegant. However 6D will still have the best mail searches. [alert admin]
