DVD Player Patch 1.8 (Mac OS X)

Crash on 10.3.9, DVD Player 4.0  

The patch applied with no complaint, but DVD Player crashed on startup. Curiously, it didn't *always* crash - more often than not, but not always. Running the patch procedure again (claimed to) remove the patch, and seems to have restored things - but only "mainly": I saw at least one crash even after removing the patch.
