Path Finder 5.5.2 (Mac OS X)

not working with snow leopard

i don't know if anyone else is having the same problem as me, but everything was going great with path finder until i installed snow leopard and then the latest path finder update. now path finder is horrible - it makes my mouse not work, it freezes my mac, it does funky things with windows that it shouldn't... i had to uninstall it & i'm just going to wait for a new updated version. i hope it comes soon b/c i miss path finder so much & it's only been a few days! Scrapper 0.8 (Mac OS X)

troubleshooting... question!

i am trying to find out what's slowing my mac down & i noticed in the activity monitor where it shows how much memory each operation is using and then it says "kind" and everything is listed as "intel" EXCEPT for scrapper, which says "powerPC". can anyone tell me what that means, and why it would be, and whether or not that could possibly be possible for my slowing-down problems? i mean my imac has been ridiculously slow & i'm a pretty good troubleshooter usually. so i've already hunted down and tried all the usual suspects - they all got off with probation. DYMO LabelWriter 7.8 (Mac OS X)

this doesn't work!!!

this package installs the dymo label application, but NOT the drivers. i did everything right, followed all the instructions, but no go. i found all old versions of dymo software (application & drivers) on my mac & deleted them. then i reinstalled (kept the labelwriter unplugged until i was told to plug it in, then plugged it in) and again, no drivers were installed. i don't believe they are part of the package!!! i am really pissed off about this because i've been unable to use my labelwriter for well over a year now. so, the dymo app won't open b/c it doesn't recognize any printers. my "printer setup" in system prefs is able to see the labelwriter well enough, but there is no driver for it. USELESS!!!!! [alert admin]

Journler 1.1.5 (Mac OS X)

best journaling software ever!!

i can't believe this is freeware. i have tried every kind of journal-type software incl. notebook (way too expensive), macjournal, and stickybrain (also way too expensive.) i hate all of them. this one has all the features i could want and is much easier to use & more pleasant to look at than any of the others. i imported my notes from all the other note-taking apps and finally was able to get rid of dozens upon dozens of mysterious folders full of notes. i can't take a star off for this because it's freeware and i really can't believe something this good can be free... but i do wish journler could import & display PDFs. that's the only thing it's lacking. i have a lot of old PDF files in a "notebook" notebook, which i can't get at because of a lost license & not wanting to pay the upgrade fee after accidentally upgrading... and i was able to import all the images etc. out of that file. the PDFs though, are stuck. so i have to keep folders full of PDFs in my documents folder when i wish i could just import them into journler w/everything else. i have EVERY bit of info stored in journler now though and it's MUCH easier to access than in any other app i've tried. i especially like how easy it is to write something and then email it or post it to a blog with just the click of a button. having it password-protected is an added bonus. Endicia 2.1 (Mac OS X)

fantastic!!!!

i just started using endicia but am completely thrilled with it. i hesitated to sign up because it costs more than stamps.com did on the PC. but it is SO much easier to use than stamps.com and not just because it's on the mac and everything is better on the mac. the client software for endicia works flawlessly, is intuitive, and has features that stamps.com does not. it also of course looks much better. signing up is easy and buying postage is a snap. i wish it didn't cost so much per month, but it's made it so much easier for me to ship things i've sold on amazon.com etc. that i think it's worth it. i'll be at least that much more productive. it would be really nice though if these services could, perhaps, not charge for months when you didn't use them at all. that would make signing up a no-brainer. for this i had to be ready to ship a lot of packages before i was willing to take the plunge, after several years of a stamps.com membership on an ugly old PC which i never used except for that one purpose... and all the months that went by when i didn't send packages just cost me money. it seems that with endicia it's much easier to cancel a membership if you have to though, and so if you know in advance that you won't be using it i suppose you could just cancel and then sign up again later. Adobe Reader 7.0.5 (Mac OS X)

HORRIBLE!!!!!

once i updated to 7.0.5 i could no longer read e-books. i have come to loathe adobe reader and its business of checking to see if i paid for my books. it always loses track and i lose my ability to read. this version quit every single time i tried to access a "digital edition" no matter which way i tried. i bought 2 ebooks on amazon.com and ordinarily the file i downloaded would cause reader to connect to wherever, to download the actual pdf file. but now it would just quit. after hours of messing around with this i found a solution that finally worked for me: 1) i deleted every single thing on my mac that had anything to do with any version of adobe reader. 2) i went to ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub and downloaded VERSION 6. that one works and doesn't use an installer, you just drag the folder from the disk image into your applications folder. i like the interface better, too. so my "bookshelf" was back and i was also able to download the books i had purchased. sadly, in doing all of this i caused the app to think that i didn't own my older pdfs. i will deal with that later though. i hardly care right now, i am just really happy to have gotten rid of the 7.0.5 BEAST FROM HELL. LivingTime Personal Timeliner 2.0.5 (Mac OS X)

i can't believe they charge for this.

they should pay people to use this, it's that bad. amazingly, on the developer's website they show awards they've won (5 stars at tucows, etc.) but if you click on any of those all you get is the developer's PR. there are no actual reviews from other people. this app is slow, ugly, and painful. it would be nice if someone could actually create a working timeline app containing all the features this one claims to have. why is there no usable timeline app for the mac???????? i cannot say enough bad things about livingtime personal timeliner. it's worse than i even imagined from reading the other reviews. HP OfficeJet D series 6.3.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

grrrrr!!!! aarrrgh!!!!

i've been able to get my d135 to print off & on over the couple years i had it. at the time it was the only multi-function that claimed to work with OSX. in general, i have to go through anywhere from 0-100 rounds of turning everything off, then on, unplugging, re-plugging, etc. now i really want to be able to print over airport, and i can choose the printer in the rendezvous printers list but then i'm told that there's no driver installed. i've installed the deskjet thing, as much as i hate it. but perhaps it doesn't support usb printer sharing? is there ANY alternative driver out there? how much trouble would it really take HP to get this thing working right? don't they realize that mac users are a very important part of the market? Synchronize! Pro X 3.4.2 (Mac OS X)

first one to work

i tried the free utilities first of course, and even the highly rated carbon copy cloner couldn't give me a bootable backup, there were so many files it was unable to copy. synchronize! pro x gives you the option of fixing permissions and copying everything, and really creates a bootable backup system. i am ever so grateful, even though i had to pay $100 it's worth it after the last year i've spent struggling to save my ailing g4 system. sometimes it pays to pay. Bottom Line?

i agree that the description says hardly anything and the disclaimer (i think it was meant as a disclaimer) should have been a lot clearer. he states that many users complain that their systems become unstable or unusable after applying the patch. good to know! a little more info than that (such as what to do about it) would have been nice.

you can modify themes or create your own

i understand what this person is saying, because there's not a single theme i'd want to use for myself or any of my clients - all the built-in ones look very dot-mac-like in an annoying rounded bubbly sort of way. but they're a great starting point and you can open the contents and modify them using a text editor or a CSS editor. from there, the sky's the limit. i used to use dreamweaver because…
