Firefox 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

iWeb pages won't display properly...

I have tried reloading my web site and eliminating the photo frames and still blank pages where my photo galleries are. The entire site is visible with most every OTHER browser-including Firefox 2, but no go with FF3. Keep FF2 handy until the kinks are worked out. This behavior is the same with both the PC and Mac versions. My advice is if content appears to be missing, try another browser FF2 or Safari. It may be partially to blame on Apple's switch from Dot Mac to Me.com but the pages are still viewable in other browsers. Hopefully a fix from Mozilla and/or Apple is in the works. [alert admin]

AOL Desktop for Mac 1.1 (Mac OS X)

This software is a good replacement for the original.

I am reviewing the software here. I really could care less how one person "feels" about AOL. This software is useful and works well on my Intel Mac. No crashes and it is a good all-in-one experience. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.1.0 (Mac OS X)

Speeds up launch times..

I have an Mac Pro 8 Core and Word was taking 30 seconds to launch. Since the update, launch times hover at or around 20 seconds or less. Still not as fast as 2004 in Rosetta, but an improvement to be sure. Thankfully, I do not have to use Office too much. There are many alternatives out there. Even Text Edit can open Word docs! No problems with installation. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.4.71 (Mac OS X)

Thanks for great software!

I first tried this software to use with my Nikon CoolScan IV. The original software from Nikon has not been updated for almost 4 years! The Nikon Scan software was ALWAYS clunky, but it did work well enough on my PPC Mac. Fast forward to today and I now use a Mac Pro. Nikon Scan will launch on an Intel Mac (using Rosetta). This is counter productive and I prefer to use software running as a Universal application. VueScan does exactly that AND it creates the best scans I have ever had with this scanner! For some, buying a new scanner -especially a flat bed scanner is most cost effective, but for those of us with film scanners that will cost $500 or more to replace, this is by far the best solution. I also use VueScan with my Canon MP170 Multi-function printer/scanner. To conclude, check replacement prices of your existing scanner then decide if VueScan is a good choice for you. BTW, I use the standard version with one year of updates. I highly recommend giving this software a test drive. What is there to lose? [alert admin]

AOL Desktop Beta 13 (Mac OS X)

If you liked the original AOL, you will like this...

I have been using the AOL Desktop beta on and off for some time. For those of you who never liked the standalone AOL, don't bother. This is not for you! This is for people who over the years became addicted to the AOL experience- an all-in-one web browsing, content viewing, emailing program. I can tell you that this is a tenfold improvement over the last PPC version of AOL 10.3.7. Trying to run the old version on an Intel machine is awful. This version is Universal and greatly improved. If you do not want to use a standalone program for AOL, then by all means use your web browser or don't use AOL at all. It is your choice! BTW, it is FREE you know. It works quite well. I had a problem upgrading from version 12 to 13. It required me to trash my preferences to fix it. After that, everything works great! [alert admin]

This site is for people to download software and comment on the software. Did you try the software? I cannot blame you for hating AOL, but try the software and comment on it or write about your dislike for AOL in some other online forum. This is the best software for Mac AOL has put out in a long time. Try out AOL Radio. It has tons of FREE XM radio stations you can listen…

Lucky 13 - crashes upon launch attempts

Throw out the preference and it will launch properly. Go to User>Library>Preferences. Look for "com.aol.aoldesktop.plist" and trash it. The program should launch without issue.

Move on...this is good for those that like the old AOL. I do not use it everyday, but there are features built into this program that are not available otherwise. Keep your snobbery to yourself. Many people will find this to be a useful program.

I give up

The Nikon software may not work 100% with Leopard, but as a switcher FROM Canon, I can tell you that I have never used a better camera than the D300. This camera delivers on so many levels I would never go back to Canon. Even if they make better software. That is such a small piece of the puzzle. You can use half a dozen other software choices to deal with RAW images including: iPhoto…
