Apple Safari 3.2 (Mac OS X)
Ouch. Safari 3.2 crashed every time I launched it... 6 or more times. It breaks SafariStand, so I had to remove the plug-in. Concierge still works. Stay away from this version until everything is fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!! [alert admin]

ScribBall 1.1.3 (Mac OS X)
Nice graphics, satisfying sounds. Simple to play. Runs in a window. Addictive. A great game that's just plain fun. [alert admin]

JuhOS X 1.0 (Mac OS X)
There's some weird bug in either Leopard or VectorWorks 2008 that makes files on a server sometimes disappear! Nice, huh? I tried a few different file visibility utilities, but JuhOS X is the simplest and works well. Open a folder and it lists the visibility state of every file, so it's easy to identify which are invisible and can be visible again. The downside is that the interface is horrible... straight out of System 6 and the Font/DA Mover! It works. It's free. So, why complain? [alert admin]

While the idea for this little app is worthwhile, the implementation as it now stands is pretty bad. The UI is overly complex and ugly. I would call this a beta application, not a finished 1.3! Worse, the uninstaller demands the use of Terminal. The author assumes that users are Terminal fluent, so there are no detailed instructions as to how to use it. It would have been the minimum for the author to include step by step instructions so that Terminal-challenged users (like me) could simply copy and paste into Terminal to uninstall it. When I emailed the author, he fairly quickly responded, but merely copied and pasted the hopelessly sketchy uninstall "instructions" from the ReadMe. A pointless exercise. As Freeware, this is an expensive program, as it's cost me lots of time… first trying to figure it out and then wasting yet MORE time trying to get rid of it! Steer clear of this. If you want a Location manager that works, get Location X. Compared to this, $20 is better than FREE. [alert admin]

Microsoft Expression Media 2.0.1477.0 (Mac OS X)
So, I've been playing with the "new & improved" version 2 for the last few hours. As far as I can tell… and I've been using the application since it was plain iView Media… it's EXACTLY the SAME as version 1.0.2. The Menus are the same, which STILL need some logic applied to them. The Preferences are the same… pretty much everything. And it's still a pain to tweak window settings. There's STILL no way to set global Slide Shows Options! I want interactive slideshows and NO controller by default. For 200 buck$, is that too much to ask? There are 2 MAJOR new features (this IS a Microsoft acquisition after all): There's a new "professional" looking splash screen… that still cannot be disabled. AND there's a NEW and even more nebulous icon, which isn't even a Leopard friendly 512 x 512 pixel icon! The development team must be exhausted by their efforts! Unfortunately, there appears to be no other application like this in the Mac market that gives you the breadth of supported media AND the kind of control over where and how your files are stored. (Thankfully, it STILL ain't iPhoto, folks!) I've tried AtomicView, which seems to be about halfway between Expression Media and iPhoto or Aperture and shows some promise, but is wickedly overpriced like this. Maybe it'll develop into something by the time Microsoft destroys this application either actively or by neglect. Who knows. So, for now, Microsoft hasn't wrecked it and appears to have done no harm. It's pretty disappointing that there were no interface improvements made, but knowing Microsoft's sense of interface design, that's a relief. Fortunately for now, MS seems not to be charging an upgrade fee for current license holders. If so, that's a good thing for current users. So, it's good enough and works fine. That's not much of a recommendation. [alert admin]

iView MediaPro 1.0.8076.0 (Mac OS X)
Microsoft certainly has a knack. Take a wonderful and versatile piece of software like iView Media Pro , that I've been using and recommending for YEARS… sell out to Microsoft… then watch as it slowly withers and dies. Simply trying to download a Service Pack... I mean UPDATE, was an awful experience. THEN having MS trying to trick me into installing Silverfish was insult enough. Trying to actually FIND the most recent version was worse. Of course, version numbers are NOwhere to be found. FudgePack 1? WTF? Great. I dread what MS does to version 2. What it REALLY means is that it's time to look for an alternative. So, where to look? Aperture? A HOG. iPhoto? A JOKE. What a sad, sad day. And an incredible shame! I used to recommend iView, NOT this. [alert admin]

MacPinball 1.0 (Mac OS X)
While I appreciate the programmer's effort, the result is amateurish, limited and lacks polish. The $10 the author is asking for this would be better spent elsewhere If you want good pinball games, Little Wing has been doing pinball games for years and it shows. Even their first game, Tristan, is miles ahead of this. http://www.littlewingpinball.com/ [alert admin]

ForgetMeNot 3.0 (Mac OS X)
ForgetMeNot is a great little Safari add-on. When I launch Safari, I generally open the same 3 or 4 web site tabs immediately. This saves me the trouble. Also, when Safari decides to Quit, on relaunch, I'm back to where I was without having to hunt through the browser History and needn't fear that I'll never find obscure web pages again. I use it in conjunction with Concierge, too. Fantastic! [alert admin]

Apple MacBook Pro EFI Firmware 1.3 (Mac OS X)
Yeah, it ran perfectly. Shutdown. Hold power button, etc., etc.. After restarting, there were lots of strange behaviors, which boiled down to many System Prefs being disabled: No desktop picture on external monitor. Mouseworks scrolling disabled. Expose disabled. And other things. I shut down, then Zapped the PRAM. Hit Power Button. IMMEDIATELY hold Command-Option-P-R keys. Wait for restart tone twice, more if you like. Everything is back to normal. Here are th "instructions" I got from the author. you need to run with administrative privileges using "sudo" sudo /Volumes/LocationChanger/UninstallLocationChanger You need to run the uninstaller from the command line with administrator privileges. in Terminal: cd /Volumes/LocationChanger sudo UninstallLocationChanger REAL helpful, huh?
