Flip4Mac WMV 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Beats the pants of Windows Media Player, MPlayer & VLC (for WMV playback only) Finally! Released free for just playback. Now we just need support for WM10 (WM3 codec) files - especially since Microsoft have just announced they are discontinuing Windows media player for Mac. [alert admin]

Charla 1.6.6m (Mac OS X)
Room lists don't load correctly ![]()

Some of the room lists don't load (ie: many of the adult ones, since yahoo changed them - you can't just have hard coded defaults), which is a shame, as otherwise it's nicer to use than Chit chat. Supports multiple profiles (which Chit chat doesn't do properly). Could do with being a bit more stable too. If the room lists were working properly, I'd switch back to Charla in a second. iGetter Download Manager 2.2 (Mac OS X)
iGetterIMBundle (Contextual Menu Item) is the 10.3.9 issue
Good to see someone else managed to figure out why Safari is crashing on Quit and generally unstable after the 10.3.9 update. It turns out there is some sort of incompatability with version 2.2 of iGetter's Contextual Menu Item plugin (iGetterIMBundle). Version 2.1 of the plugin which was left over in another account doesn't cause this behaviour (Not sure if it works with version 2.2 of iGetter though). I'm sure that now the issue has been identified (suspicion initally fell on things like APE, Shapeshifter, and the like), the author will be able to remedy the situtation quickly. [alert admin]

Xfactor 0.32 (Mac OS X)
No longer connects to Fastrack?
Downloaded the new 0.32 version, and now it won't connect to fastrack (Kazaa). It just sits at 'connecting'. Worked fine in the previous version. [alert admin]

Yahoo! Mailer 1.01 (Mac OS X)
Simple. Effective. Does exactly what it says. Allowed me to streamline moving to an all browser based emailing setup. [alert admin]

YMail.app 0.4.1 (Mac OS X)
Does just what it says. My only other comments are that it is a shame it's not a true menubar extra, so it can be reordered as the user sees fit; and that it would be nice to have a lighter yahoo icon that is more discreet (Cos I find the Yahoo logo Y ugly). Other than that, it's good stuff. [alert admin]

G-Force 2.8 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Performance boost with this release ![]()

I don't know what our programming lad did with this version of G-Force, but I get a notable performance improvement over previous versions on my G4 733MHz Quicksilver tower. Seems like I have less and less excuses these days not to register this mandatory addition to my iTunes visual plug-ins, even though I don't use them all that often. [alert admin]

Proteus 4.10 (Mac OS X)
Proteus has long been a 'must-have' for me. This release fine-tunes some of the small inconsistencies (fading the file transfer window along with the other windows, when set - as I do). With something this good already, the little things matter. [alert admin]

Yahoo! Messenger X 2.5.3 (Mac OS X)
It appears Yahoo Messenger for Mac is no longer supported by Yahoo. In the past 6 months Yahoo has changed it's protocols such that Mac versions of the Messenger app can no longer receive files from later PC versions developed after that date (they can send fine). I have pursued this issue with Yahoo's tech support dept, who have shown no interest in bringing the Mac version up to date, or in further supporting the Mac platform. Unfortunately until the new file transfer protocols are reverse-engineered, all third party IM apps accessing Yahoo using GAIM (hacked access to Yahoo's IM), suffer the same file transfer issues with newer PC versions of Yahoo IM.
