LinkOptimizer 3.2.1 (Mac OS X)

in the interest of fairness...

PLEASE... Anyone interested in this product should read all of the reviews AND the responses to the feedback. dc_Graphic Designer seems to have some kind of personal vendetta here. He appears to be clueless about the field of graphic design and yet repeatedly posts negative comments and reviews here. If you read the other reviews (mostly by professionals), you will find that this is a very stable and useful application that DOES perform exactly as advertised. dc_Graphic Designer claims to be a "university professor." If he really is, he seems to be precisely the pompous and arrogant type of personality that gives academia a bad name. [alert admin]

CopyDrop 1.3 (Mac OS X)

not quite there...

There is quite an underground community who used CopyAgent from Connectix and sorely miss it's elegant and simple functionality. It really is something Apple should include in the system. This app is halfway there. I wonder if it is possible for the developer to intercept finder copy calls and automatically use the app to complete the operation. Also the app seems fairly slow when copying a folder with no changes - it should be almost instantaneous. Maybe it's the logging overhead. That could probably be done away with since I would think most users would never check the log anyway. A simple dialog box with a short summary would suffice. Even this summary should be an option configurable in the prefs - remember, what the average user really wants is a smarter Finder copy and not several dialog boxes to have to click through. Xtorrent 1.1 (49) (Mac OS X)

Top notch and keeps getting better...

VERY Mac-like interface and excellent performance. Ignore the detractors - David Watanabe writes excellent software. [alert admin]

DiskWarrior 4.0 (Mac OS X)

once again... readers beware of irresponsible ratings!

"if you are upgrading to 10.5 which is coming out next month don't buy this! i know from a reliable source that they have no plans to provide support. last upgrade was 18 months ago! $100???!!!" This previous post from dev10 (3 TIMES!!) giving a 1 star rating is yet another example of readers flaming a product they haven't even used. I run the prepress department in a large printing company (15-20 Macs) that can not afford down time. I also support several other small Mac based companies. I've used DW for years and it has been the single, fastest, most effective recovery tool in my arsenal. Micromat's products (TechTool, DiskStudio and the Protege) take up the rest of the slack. I will upgrade, and if the program has shortcomings, I'll rate it accordingly. PLEASE PEOPLE, if you are going to rate a program: 1) Use the program 2) Give real, unbiased evaluations of the features, usability and stability 3) Give at least a minimal description of your hardware & software environment If you're just going to flame on hearsay or price, do the community a favor - post a commentary, NOT a review. If you don't like the price, you don't have to buy it. [alert admin]

Suitcase Fusion 12.1.3 (Mac OS X)

irresponsible reviews...

Versiontracker is an invaluable service but a word of caution to people reading the reviews here... be skeptical of unsubstantiated reviews - either very good OR very bad. Unless the reviewer goes into some sort of detail about how they installed the software, what sort of environment they run it in, how they prepared for the installation (uninstall old versions or competitors products, repair permissions before and after, etc), what hardware and system softtware they are running on, whether they are in a networked environment - we really don't have any idea whether they are making any sort of unbiased or reasoned evaluation at all. Take the last post as an example - the reviewer gives no details at all - just flames the product. He/she can't even spell the word "awful" correctly and we are supposed to accept their evaluation??? - I don't think so. I've run a prepress department for 10 years and have had my share of ups and downs with Suitcase over the years. Overall I have found Fusion to be a major upgrade over X1 in terms of speed and reliability. I will download 12.1.3 today and test it for a few days and THEN I will get back and give it a fair and documented review. [alert admin]

Mail Factory 2.4 (Mac OS X)

won't install...

10.4.5 - Dual 1ghz G4 Installer goes thru the motions and then says, "There were errors installing the software" and "Please try installing the software again." Any ideas?... [alert admin]

Don't support crooks

Acquisition is a DIFFERENT program. Why do you think you should get a free upgrade to Xtorrent?

has bugs ???

What kind of designer would use a GIF image in a print document? That's either lunacy or ignorance. You're probably driving your printer crazy. I run a prepress department and use LO all the time to start the repair process on documents from customers. We'll often see relatively small projects come in on several CDs and weigh in at 500mb to 1gb+ and this utility is a godsend. It's not unusual to see a gigabyte of…

I would totally buy this app, if it weren't for...

No - I don't know you or your work, but you do sound like many a pretender I've encountered... C'mon now, you're really gonna gripe about an absolute non-issue in a piece of software that allows you to do what you imply to be high quality work AND you're going to complain about being "expected to pay" all of $23.32 — get a life !!!

ojisan and strawmanlaststraw are just plain wrong...

Even before I paid for this program, it worked great and did NOT exhibit any of the behavior they note. David Watanabe has been around awhile and is a top notch developer. Do yourself a favor and try this program.

Sterling Haxies, lackluster support

terrespencer - I use and have used WindowShadeX and APE concurrently with Mail, QuarkXpress, and DragThing for several years now with no problems. I've run this combo under every system since 10.2 - both at a home studio AND in a production environment (I run a prepress department). You might want to take a closer look at your system before you blame these apps for you problems. You might have some other instability going on. BTW…

Still Not Worth Upgrading

"Timbuktu has no Tiger compatibility with any version earlier than 8.1.1" Not exactly true. While it may not support all the new features, I'm still running my version of TB2 6 on my server and my client machines (all at 10.4.3) and have no problems at all. I was annoyed when they sent the last few upgrade notices telling me that I needed the new versions for Tiger support but I decided to wait it out…
